I went in to this shop as it was recommended to me. The person at the counter was very friendly and had a positive attitude, which is always helpful. I needed a car key and the fob as I only had one. They have an extensive inventory of those items. He found the correct fob and key, and within a short time, he had programmed the new key and fob, he even showed me the remote start feature. I would think that usually that fob would have to be ordered creating a delay. The service was quick and painless. I will be going there again. I'm in shock how great it went! I can't even believe it. The most shocking thing in my life!!! My extra key fob for my bmw x5 was no longer working. Dead. I took it up to scotts valley battery plus and they broke my key fob. So I ordered a shell of a fob on amazon and the guy at coast took my remnants all in splinters put it into the empty shell and it totally started my car! I'm still in total shock over it!!!!!! I try not to bag on local businesses but find this company so egregiously incompetent my only logical assumption is that their technicians are high off that club pot while trying to install locks. Idk, maybe life as a locksmith is tough so I don't want to judge but when you pay someone who tightens a lock so tight on your rv door that they literally shatter/ crack door I find it hard to imagine they're sober. I took in my 86 toyota dolphin after just purchasing it. I was ecstatic at my new ride. I simply needed a new lock installed on the side door so nobody could break in. What a mistake to come here. The dude used a deadbolt that goes to a house they had lying around and had to cut into the metal frame of the door to get it to fit. He then proceeded to tighten the darn screws so hard that it completely dented the outside and put so much pressure on the inside of the door that it shattered the metal casing. I literally have a Giant crack in my door from this dude over tightening the bolts down so hard. It's like he was taking out his internal stress from home on those screws... or maybe he just had a bad day and needed to show some thin aluminum sheeting who's boss... I was confident taking my rv to a real locksmith the job would be done correctly and professionally. Absolutely wrong. Rv doors are not made of steel or hardwood like normal doors. They're made of sheet aluminum, foam and light plywood to keep the weight down. Rv doors need to be installed gently when you tighten them down so the doors aren't damaged. Their technician didn't know this and flexed on those screws so bad that my door dented in on the outside and completely cracked on the inside. His supervisor realized what he did and got so upset he walked actress the street shaking his head saying "waaaay too tight". Now my door lock is loose and barely holds on because he had to back the screws out and it no longer fits tight. Even if he gave it to me for free I would've been bummed but dude had the nerve to charge me $65 dollars. Omg what a nightmare, I strongly recommend using anyone else for your locksmith needs and if your going to chance it make sure your technician isn't high af off that club pot when he's on the job. read more

I got a spare vehicle key made here. I like the 90 day guarantee on spares. The cost was way more affordable than dealing with the dealership. I am only giving four stars instead of five because it's a bit unclear on how long things will take. I don't think they do appointments, but maybe they should? I wanted a spare key for my Toyota. I had tried using one of those " Key-Me" Kiosk. Both times the keys they sent did not work. Time wasted. I called the shop and they told me they could make me a key with the transponder in the key for $50 bucks. I had just paid KEYME $80 and as mentioned it did not work. Don't shop here. They sold me a new electronic key to my car. The key was faulty and still does not work after three visits to have the issue looked at. They did not offer to replace the key faulty key with a new one... jus fiddled with it til it would temporarily work again. Coast Lock & Safe is winning by approx $300. Quoted me $450 to drill a safe. That's $300 more than I was quoted for drilling from two other locksmith (who actually asked to see a picture of the safe). I ended up paying $350 to have it manipulated (opened with no damage) which included cleaning the mechanisms and re-setting a new combo, on site. A service they could not even provide (manipulation). Ironically, a year ago, they had charged me $280 for re-setting the combo on a similar three geared already opened safe at their shop, a task so easy that I have since learned to do it myself. A few years back I paid $80 for the same job at another ship on Portola Av so I stupidly did not even ask the price as I assumed it would be ball park. I think this place is fine for quick keys or emergency lock out's but for any advance work I would recommend getting a quote, educating yourself on the options and comparing with other shops. read more

I tried to have a key made at Orchard Supply awhile back after numerous tries I finally gave up. What I hadn't noticed was that the guy actually made little laser cuts into my key, finally it broke off in my trunk while putting groceries in. I called another locksmith but he referred me to Coast Lock and Safe saying they do the best on worn down keys. Kristen was awesome! She got it done! The key works perfectly! She saved my groceries and my car thank you, will be in to have a couple more keys made just in case! Since my last Key episode I have bought a newer car with a key fob. The car is beautiful but the key fob not so much. Instead of waiting till the rubber cover completely falls off or the buttons stop working, I decided to go back to Coast Lock and Safe. They had my exact key fob, so much more cheaper then if I were to go to the dealer. I was in and out about 8 minutes or less. These guys are a amazing! Wish I could write something positive. I called several companies and looked at reviews before talking to John the owner. I asked John to come out and service several mortise locks in our vintage house. I restored the house in 2010 and in the process I repaired all of the locks in the house. Didn't want to do it myself this time so I called John. A week after John did his work one of our tenants complained about one of the locks John worked on. He said he need to rotate the knob almost 300 degrees to get the door to open. I stopped by yesterday to look at the lock and found that the set screws on both the inside and outside knobs were not tightened. Not just loose, not tightened at all. Also noticed that the latch would not return position on it's own. I wrote an email and asked John for a partial refund of the over $300.00 he charged. Here's John's reply: "Yes, we lubed and checked all springs for the locks we took apart. I'm sorry you aren't happy with our work. I understand if you would like to start calling someone else for your lockwork in the future." I'll be taking Johns advice, will definitely not call in the future. If I could give then 0 OR EVEN NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD. I have never been treated in such an abusive and horrible fashion by any employee of any store in my life (and i used to work retail-and i own a business-NEVER). I just called simply asking to have a deadbolt unlocked. A man named Ryan showed up who is by far the rudest and most ornery employee ive ever met. This place was a lot of "firsts" in terms of negative behavior. When Ryan was done, he asked for payment naturally and he told me it was 100$ for unlocking the door which took 3 seconds. But, a price is a price so we areed to pay it. . My dad owns the house and wanted to pay, so i called him and ryan became agitated that he hadnt been paid in 10 seconds and 45 seconds had passed. I was trying to get more business ansd asking if my dad would like ALL the doors redone. My dad said no, he was disapoointed in the price but hed pay it. Suddenlty, Ryan jumps up runs to my door and locks me back out of my house. I was appalled. He said we were taking too long to pay him. This was maybe.....4-5 minutes after he opened the door. Not long. My dad got on the phone again and tried to pay then asked if he could ask me a ? When Ryan handed me the phone, he jumped up and ran to my door and deadbolted it AGAIN so i was locked out. Because it took 5 -7 miniutes before he got his payment? He was abusive. He came and locked me out of my own house TWICE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PAY HIM. I began to cry I was so appalled. I called his boss to report his employees despicable behavior. His boss was understanding until he spoke to ryan. Then he camje on the phone and said hed come back AGAIN and unlock the door for 100$. Are you kidding? 100$ when youve wasted an hour of my day and its been unlocked 3 times but your employee keeps throwing a hissy fit and relocking me out of my own house? I said that was bad business and hung up. These people are thieves and the worsr worst worst experience I have ever had in my life buying ANYTHING. I honestly don't know why this establishment has 4 stars. I called this company because I lost the keys to my car. I am a college student and am far from home, so this situation was beyond stressful for me. The technician who came to help me was rude, aggressive, and misogynistic. Before he even stepped foot out of his van, his words and tone of voice contained an impatient and agitated undertone. When he approached me, he was obviously annoyed and made harsh comments toward me. I began to cry and there was no apology for his behavior. So in summary, I paid $573 for terrible customer service. This was a very traumatic event for me. I feared for my safety during this encounter and I really hope this man gets reprimanded for his actions. Being a woman in this political climate is already scary enough and dealing with rude and aggressive locksmiths does not alleviate any of the social anxieties that I already have. Very skilled professionals. I have a 1970s vintage/classic with no original keys. The keys I had were cut incorrectly (e.g., way too thin and prone to breakage). When one of the keys finally broke off in the door lock, I headed into Coast Lock & Safe. They were able to extract the broken half key and cut me 3 new keys that work FAR BETTER than any other key I've had in the car (all 4 locks and ignition now work, when previously that was not the case). Not only that, but the new keys are thicker and therefore less prone to breaking off again. See attached pictured. In sum, pros, fast, reasonable and fair prices. After I lost my vehicle keys, Coast Lock & Key owner made a defective key for my car and refused to refund the $73.20 he charged me. My car would only start intermittently using his key, so I had to have it jump started once and towed once to a repair shop after that. The repair shop discovered that the bad key was the problem and it ended up costing me a total of $220.44 for diagnostics, a new key, etc. I returned to Coast and asked the owner for a refund of what I paid for a defective key. He was very rude and refused any refund whatsoever. I reported it to North Bay Ford Auto who had referred me to Coast since it does not do auto keys anymore. Do not waste your time and money at Coast Lock &Safe who do defective keys and refuse legitimate refunds. read more

They had everything I needed in stock, including a lockset with a 5-inch backset adapter. Everyplace else said "special order". I went to another local place - they wanted to sell me MUCH more expensive hardware. Granted, it was better quality, but at $500 vs. $100 I paid at Coast. BTW, Coast also has more expensive gear if you want it. The other place took much longer to "look things up" vs. John going and picking the items up for me - Done! Prices? While I was in another room, burglars cut the screen, got in, stole my keys, and attempted to steal my VW Jetta (but they couldn't back it out of my driveway because they couldn't drive a stick -- ha!).
