I love this place so much. I've been coming here for a few years now and I think as long as I drive I'll be coming here. If you take your car here and they notice something else wrong they'll call you first before doing anything and get approval, if you don't want to do it I felt no pressure from them and they just added it to recommended repairs. They also topped off my wiper fluid... well more like filled it because I had completely ran out, at no charge to me. 10/10 best experience I've ever had at a shop. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at Japanese Auto Center. My check-engine light suddenly came on while I was driving to work, and my car stalled on the road. I stopped at the nearest place for help and was referred to Japanese Auto Center. When I arrived, Kenny told me to leave the car for about two hours and said it should be ready. At around 4:30 PM, I was told they needed to keep my car overnight because a part had not arrived and that I could pick it up at noon the next day. I explained that I had to work early and asked if I could pick it up at 8 or 9 AM instead. The next morning, Mathew called and told me my car was ready. Kenny was not there, and I was charged $665, which was more than the amount I had been quoted over the phone. When I asked to speak with Kenny, I was told he was at the hospital visiting his wife and would not be back until around noon. I had no choice but to pay and take my car because I needed it for work. Kenny later told me he would credit me a few dollars on my next visit. I also noticed that the mileage had increased by nearly 60 miles while my car was left overnight. I was never given an explanation for this, which was very concerning. The repair included replacing four spark plugs, the mass air flow sensor, and the air filter--even though I had replaced the air filter only a few months earlier. These repairs also did not seem to correspond with what the scanner had originally indicated. Most importantly, exactly one week later, my check-engine light came back on. At that point, I no longer felt confident returning to this shop to have the problem addressed again. Overall, I felt the service was poorly communicated, unnecessarily expensive, and lacking transparency. I paid $665 and still had the same problem one week later. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to Japanese Auto Center and cannot recommend this shop. read more

I took my 2016 Nissan Versa S for check engine light which came on again and have my AC/Heater blower replaced. I've taken my Versa to Japanese Auto Center before for check engine light and they replaced the catalytic converter which fixed it but this time the fuel injectors needed all to be replaced. I've also had them do maintenance work, oil change and tire rotation, might as well since they were due. Kenny was excellent in letting me know what was going on and gave me fair price on the total repair. They do excellent work and I've been extremely happy with their service and quality of work. Now my Versa runs like a charm and hopefully to get ten more years before buying a new car. I highly recommend Japanese Auto Center for all your car services. Ask for Kenny and Mathew. This place is a scam. I brought my car in for a diagnosis because my check engine light was on. They charge $150 for that. That is all I asked for. A diagnosis of my vehicle. When I returned to pick up my car, I found that they ran a smog check and failed it. In the smog failed paperwork I saw it said "tampered" with a specific component. I then took it to my personal mechanic to see what that was and he did his own diagnosis and work and found that that was totally false. He fixed a couple things that were super cheap that turned off some seemingly difficult codes that his diagnostic found, and turned off my engine light. He then took it to his smog shop but the people running it said that they don't want to proceed and that I would have to go back to this shop to "complete" the tampered work they found and marked. Then my mechanic took it to a second smog shop who said the same thing because apparently it can look bad in a shop to run a failed and tampered vehicle, but he did his inspections and it passed without the "tampered" component ever needing to be touched or fixed or anything! It was made up. This Japanese auto center made this shit up and ran a failed smog without my consent with a visual tampered note on purpose to make it difficult for other smoggers to complete so that I would have to have the work done in this shop. And the work this Japanese auto center was going to charge was near $700 for things they were unsure of that would get me to pass. Upon all this bullshit, the front desk guy is a total asshole. Had so much attitude when I was confused and asking basic customer questions about my billing etc. Fuck this place and fuck the owners. One of the owners was telling me about certain cars he has had in the past and this fucking guy sounds like a millionaire. If you ever meet a rich, well off mechanic do not go to those motherfuckers. Because that just does not make any sense. And I don't want to see a reply from you guys trying to explain the situation. You got caught red handed. My mechanic is an honest guy, and not only him, but the other two smog business owners said that you guys tried to lock me into your system with a "tampered" note so that I would have to come back to you and blow money on potentially useless fixes and also so you could receive a rating from my smog after pass. Who knows what they would've made up! STAY AWAY from this place! read more

I first found them while working a job nearby, and I was in a pinch, gave them a call, dropped the car off five minutes later, and they fixed the issue right away. I was on a tight schedule, but they exceeded my expectations. They're kind, reliable, fast, and transparent with their pricing. I was recommended Japanese Auto Center by discount auto tires down the street for my AC control panel. They did a great job on getting my AC to work again but at the expense of my dashboard being cracked. I almost got a scam on this I brought my car for a on a noise that my car was making so the mechanic told me to leave the car for the day so he can get out like around three in the afternoon. I call him and he said that the plastic from the bottom was loose so he charged me a crazy amount of money to tide the screws from that plastic when I went to pick up my car, it was making the same noise so I call him to inform him about the situation and I took the car back to him and I ask him to leave the car up and to show me which screws he tied up because I knew he was lying he refused and he was trying to give me the money back and I said no show me what you did to the car so he got upset. He just threw the money on me and he just told me to get out of his shop. I took my car to a different mechanic and they informed me that the motor mounts were bad that's why it was making that noise. Hector that's the name of the mechanic. He was trying me to rip me off with $350. read more

I recently moved to the area and wanted to find someone reputable to look after my car. I have a low-mileage 2019 Mazda CX5 with 35k miles on it. I am about to go on a long drive to Big Sur, and my brake wear indicators are making noise. my last service showed my serpentine belt may need a replacement. I dropped my car off at 8 AM. The top tip was to arrive early (I was waiting out early after grabbing a sandwich for McDonald's), and cars kept coming. I took the shuttle back home, and, on the drive back, they called me back and confirmed my pads were about 15% left, they could machine my rotor, and the belt did have some cracking. My family and I have been coming here for years to get oil changes and regular maintenance on our cars up until today. I called in today to see if they do inspections, since it is required as a Turo host. I asked the man on the phone to see if they do those types of those inspections, he said yes. After I attempted to ask about pricing, he tells me "I have 3 people in line, I can't help you and I'm too busy" then proceeds to HANG UP on me. What kind of customer service is this? All he had to do was answer this simple question! They are also unreliable and dishonest. My stepdad came in to take his car in a couple of weeks ago, and they attempted to overcharge him by $600. Luckily he went to the Honda dealer to see if the replacement was necessary, and they told him that it absolutely wasn't. The dealership literally saved him $600!!! You are literally better off by going to your dealership to get maintenance. AND customer service is absolutely disgusting. Don't go here! read more

I went in with A/C issue on my Nissan rogue. Mr. Hector helped me right away. He was right on the job and started helping me with my troubles I described to him. Other shops refused me to do it or charged me without even fixing it. But Mr. Hector was incredible! He solved my A/C troubles within a minutes. Other services quoted me for 900$, but here I was heard and actually got help I asked for & didn't cost me fortune. I always go here for car repairs. I recently brought my car in to replace my alternator. I had to leave it for 3 days because I went out of town. When I came to pick it up there was damage to the window tint on the drivers side and black greasy finger prints on the drivers side viser I went back to show them the damage to the window tint and Matthew asked if I have a dog. Bottom line is I do not have a dog car was there for 3 days, take responsibility for the damage that was NOT there when I dropped the off. Therefore I will not be bringing my car to Japanese Auto again. read more

We've taken more than one car to this location over the years we've lived in the valley and you should have my name as well as my husband, Rick's. Yes, it was absolutely your location. Yes, your employee said that we had the wrong tires put on the car (which were the original stock tires) and was told that there was a specific type of sensor on on the tires that was incorrect and that we damaged it when driving. His solution to fixing the sensor light coming on was to bring it back in if it did so and he would then reset it. That's not a solution. Honda found the problem and we had American Tires fix it. Also, the tread was very low and they needed replacing which was not indicated by Japanese Auto Center. Although we appreciate your responding to the review we have lost trust with your services. Your response also sounds like you think that this was a fake review. It is not. Gave more stars the first time because of the past service we've received but dropped another star because of your defensive response. read more

Hector the smog tech worked slowly to fail my 2001 Toyota Camry. He put the vehicle up on the lift, spent 30 minutes to cross reference the CARB serial number with the Executive Order in order to verify the correct catalytic converter was installed. It was. Finally, he failed my vehicle due to a small vacuum hose entering the air filter box that had fallen off. He could have put it back on, or he could have asked me to reconnect this easily accessible hose. But NO, he electronically reports my vehicle as being TAMPERED. Next day I returned with the vacuum hose connected to the air filter box. Hector refused to pass the vehicle because, in his opinion, the vacuum hose was not tight enough. At this point, I walked out. There will always be discretion in the visual inspection. Japanese Auto Center used its discretion to FAIL my vehicle. Hector wasted several hours of my valuable time over two days conducting a routine OBD scan SMOG inspection. Ownership is responsible for this nonsense. Needless to say, my vehicle passed down the street, in the usual 15 minutes. Don't take the $29.99 Smog Test bait like I did. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Never going back. Did not fixed my problem and was suggesting a more expensive work. I wanted a radiator flushing, said they did it but upon looking at the coolant it was the same fluid that was sitting in it. Then they told me to get the head gasket done or buy a new motor. read more

I used to be a loyal Toyota service center person--even though my husband would tell me they upsold you and to find an honest mechanic instead. I didn't think an honest mechanic existed, so I kept going to Toyota for service and they continually recommended expensive services for my my 2016 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. I finally went to Japanese Auto Center last year for a second opinion after the Toyota service center recommended $3,000 worth of work. The guys at JAC were so great looked over my car, told me that none of the recommendations were necessary and didn't even charge me for looking it over. I have now been back twice for service and a smog check. They only do what is necessary and don't upsell you. I have sent my elderly mother for her car as well, because I knew they wouldn't take advantage of her. I don't often write recommendations for services on Yelp unless they go above and beyond. I am happy to say, I feel like I finally found an honest mechanic. read more

I would not recommend this auto repair place at all. I went in October 2023 to have them check my car brakes. They were squeaking . They said I needed the front brakes done for sure now but that the rear brakes had some time and it wasn't urgent. They gave me a price for the front and for the back brakes. I asked them to please just do the front because that's all I could afford. They ended up doing the front and the back and it left me in a very bad position because I didn't have the money for both .I ended up having to pay for them both over $700. Then one month later my brakes are squeaking really bad again so I take it back to the shop. I had to wait three hours for them to fix it. They said that the brake pads were poor quality and they had to replace all of them so that was December 2023. It is now April 1 and my brakes started once again squeaking really bad. It started one week ago the end of March . So its been 4 months from the last time they refixed my brakes and I still have the same problem. I really don't want to take my car back there to them. I don't trust them. I would not recommend this place to anyone. And yes this is the exact place that I had my brakes done, you guys are not being truthful read more

Disappointed to find out they use remanufactured parts. We just had our car towed in after one of their "remanufactured"/used parts fallen on us. Unfortunately was an alternator which could have gone out while on the freeway. They refuse to even offer a credit for the 126.00 in towing fees. Ask them if the parts they are putting in are new or used? When I complained about not trusting used they claim it was on the receipt. That's unacceptable because receipts are something that comes after the work is done. read more

The reason is someone from the servuy Dept. called me from a restricted number, didn't mention her name yelled at me, insulted me and accused me of changing the facts because of my 2 stars review. I called the gentleman at the center, who is really nice and respectful, the response was: we are sorry and we don't know who exactly called you. I've never experienced such a terrible treatment from anyone before, with the fact I'm a customer and I paid the fee for the service.
