I had a couple of fly rods that needed hook keepers which he agreed to do. I arrived at 3:10 pm on Friday, his last day and he was gone so per the instructions on the door, left my rods with the liquor store next door. Despite leaving multiple messages, never heard a word back and when I called the liquor store three days later, my rods were still there. So one more trip to Pt. Loma to pick them up. Not sure if Micah is just a kid who doesn't understand responsibility but is good (or maybe not) at wrapping rods but poor customer service will kill any business, no matter how skilled you may be at your trade . . . My advice: go work for someone else who knows how to run a business before you sink your own boat . . Just MHO . . .

After reading the many positive reviews for this shop, I decided to bring my old fishing rod and have it custom wrapped into a beautiful piece of fishing art. . I met with the owner and after his suggestions we agreed on a Tri color pattern on the Rod. He did however insist on getting rid of the old guides and going in a different direction. I asked him if the guides were salvageable, then please use them with the new colors agreed upon. I paid $250 in advance and was promised that the rod would be completed around Christmas. Fast forward to late July 2025, the rod was not completed and sat un attended in his shop. No work had been done to it at all. Nada, Zilch I asked the owner to return the rod since it was obvious that no work had been performed on the rod at all, since it was handed to him close to a year prior. I have heard of people losing their temper for the oddest reasons, the owner of this shop in my opinion resembled what is currently plaguing our society. I'm an older guy with worldwide experience, I have suffered as many have in their personal lives. He directed my attention to the wall which had a sign that stated "No Cash Returns." I asked him to clarify if that included NOT having done any work at all to a custom order. Which in my case was the issue. No work at all had been performed on my fishing rod. He stated he currently did not have any money & if I would prefer to take other merchandise in lieu of returning the pre paid amount of $250. I no longer reside in San Diego, my job has moved me out of state however similar to the birds of Capistrano, I make several migrations throughout the year back into the city of my birth, San Diego. He offered to send me a check at my residence once he had the money. I gave him my address and cell #. Today is October 7, 2025 I want to believe he may have forgotten about his promise to return my money.

Our trip started off by us going down to the marina and looking at all of the tuna laid out on the dock. We were so stoked planning on fishing for all tuna. That morning we went into the tackle shop and invested at least $500.00 in tuna gear, thinking that we were going fishing for tuna. As we loaded onto the boat, and proceeded beyond the bait docks, on our way out to sea the captain came out and told us that we were heading to the islands in Mexico to catch yellowtail and white sea bass. We do not like yellowtail or white sea bass at all. We were not the only people that were so disappointed with that information. We waited all year for this 4 day fishing trip and by the time that we actually got to fish was a day and a half later. The total fishing time that we had was about 12-14 hours and then another day and a half ride back to dock. It was such a disappointment that I gave all of my yellowfin fish away on the dock. It would have been nice to have been able to just stay on the dock and be told then and not buy all of the unnecessary gear. We spent over $3,500.00 each on this trip, not including airfare and hotel. The captain really ruined it for all of us for not allowing us to have that choice. We were stuck onboard for 3 days just riding in very uncomfortable conditions. Most of the fleet was back in San Diego slaying the tuna. We will never book a trip with you guys again. A partial refund would be awesome on your behalf. What a total disappointment and the captain definitely made the wrong call. We didn't pay you guys to have to just ride for 3, out of the whole 4 day trip.

The crew was always helpful and friendly especially to this novice. The fishing was great and there was no problem bringing home a fair share of Yellow Fin, Dorado and Yellow tail. We have never caught so many and so many large ones (84lbs being the largest, but a few close to the same size) even though we have been out more than a few times on 2 & 3 day boats. By far the best experience!! 1. Captain James knows his fish!!! Got us to our limit quickly and then made sure our fish was processed well so we can get the most out of them - they gut and clean the fish right away, put them on ice and then once on shore process and vacuum pack them to make sure they are good long term. What a relief especially after you catch so many. 2. Patrick makes amazing food(!) and Brian was there to make sure we were well - made sure we didn't lose our fish once hooked and also always made sure we're doing well in general. 3. The bathrooms, kitchen etc were all very clean! 4. They were just amazing people to be around. So patient and kind. Can't wait for our next trip! Thank you Sauerfish!!

Yes, no cutting nor priority boarding for late arrivals nor those folks who believe "rules exist for thee but not for me." Folks, there is a true, honest and ethical Captain in town. Yes, a very good class on fishing is given, knots are tied, tangles are untangled, fish are gaffed and placed in the RSW, and all the expected things on a 3/4 Day trip. I recommend getting the burger on the boat as no one like soggy bread sandwiches nor snack food meals all day while battling fish. The Crew; Cook Ash, Deckhands Tanner, Maher, Max, and Tanner (impressive) are all very capable. Do as they teach you, your training, and you will be successful. I also suggest wearing a wicker cowboy hat, a vest, a salmon colored shirt, lots of sun block and step into being John Wayne your own marvelously fun Western fishing movie. Why not 5 Stars? My particular day fishing on this boat, there were no GRANDE fishing shirts to purchase, but after I get my shirt I will upgrade this review to 5 stars.

They truly enjoyed their job and it showed. There are plenty of bunks on board so if you want to take a quick nap while traveling to and from the fishing grounds you've got a place to do so comfortably. From the time you catch your fish to the time you get off the crew takes care of everything, I've been on other boats where you have to take your fish to them to filet then bag it yourself. Not on the grande. They ask if you want your fish filleted and if you do they'll filet it, bag it then take it up to the parking lot to pass out after the trip. Launched from here on my Standup Paddleboard this past weekend in order to see the Sea Lions!…read more There's a ton of parking for cars with trailers only, but there's a row of parking for regular cars, and we found plenty of spots there on a Saturday afternoon in August. We blew up our boards in the lot, and then walked the short distance over to the boat launch. Love the ramp in, there's boats to avoid, but there was only one boat at the time we were going on so easy peasy. Then it was a beautiful paddle just around the corner, under the bridge, and over to where the sea lions are! We hung out there for a while and then had our lovely paddle back. Definitely adding this to my list of great paddle launch spots.
