    After acupuncture!

I began taking my 18 year old Dachshund to Coast Veterinary when I came home to find his back legs paralyzed. I bought him a cart and other items to make a now paralyzed dog comfortable. I was recommended for him to do acupuncture so I took him to Coast Veterinary. Within weeks, he was walking again. It really was a miracle. Their entire staff cares about your pets well-being. I highly recommend them.

My 16 year old Bichon Frise, Reggie

Kindness away from home: I would like to share wonderful experiences at Coast Veterinary Services. My family went for a short trip in Santa Cruz area so we spent the night in Scott Valley. We were traveling with our 16 year old diabetic Bichon Frise, Reggie. It is not easy travel with Reggie but we love to have him with us. I thought I prepared everything for him , insulin, food, bowl, diaper etc. However, I still missed the most important thing, his U-40 syringes. How could I inject Reggie without syringes. U-40 is not common either. I tried Walgreens, CVS but no luck. Reggie missed out 1 dose of insulin so his glucose was Hi as he drank tons of water like crazy. I researched for veterinary clinic in Yelp and Coast Veterinary Services was shown. In the morning, I drove there. Tasha greeted me warmly. I told her my situation and I needed 5 of U-40 syringes. I sat and waited there then Karen came out and gave me the whole bag of U-40 Syringe (10syringes). Not only that, when I wanted to pay, Tasha told me to have syringes and she did not charge me a penny. Thank you Tasha, Karen and Coast Veterinary Services, you all saved Reggie's life. I really appreciated your kindness. You all made my trip memorable with human kindness. If I have lived in San Valley area, Reggie would be the good patient at your clinic. Thank you very much once again.

Our fur baby feeling much better

We brought our 8yr old AmStaff here. She has chronic tummy issues and we needed answers. Our fur baby was seen by Dr. Sullenberger. After a thorough examination and a series of tests, we discovered we're dealing with IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease). Dr. Sullenberger answered all of our questions and concerns. We now have a plan set in place to deal with future episodes of IBD and feel confident that our fur baby is going to be feeling much better. Thank you Dr. Sullenberger.

The staff here is so awesome, friendly, and helpful! My sweet pup had a nasty infection pop up on his toe, they were able to see him on the same day that I called and they were very attentive and sensitive to his needs. My pup is naturally very difficult and the staff handled him with so much love and professionalism that I felt very comfortable with him in their care. I've been searching for the perfect vet for my pup and I am so happy I finally found it!

When I called, they completely understood with no late cancellation fee. Once I came in a few days later, they inspected my bearded dragon and gave me the medication he required. I recently came in again, but this time we didn't know exactly what was wrong with him, unlike last time where we knew he had parasites. They were very professional, and handled my bearded dragon incredibly well the entire time. They gave him 20ml of fluids, cut his nails, collected a fecal sample, and sent me on my way with the medication he needs. I'm glad Exotic Pet Clinic of Santa Cruz has the expertise and resources to help them. The fact that they don't even treat cats and dogs is reassuring, knowing that my rabbit is being cared for by professionals who are dedicated to and have valuable experience with small animals and other less common pets. In fact, I was referred here by a different veterinary hospital closer to home who knew my bunny would be in better hands at the Exotic Pet Clinic of Santa Cruz. As it turned out, they were attentive to my bunny's needs from the moment I stepped inside the exam room, and showed understanding toward my situation and how overwhelming having a sick pet can be. I appreciated that they were honest and detailed when providing answers to my questions and options for treatments to address my bunny's condition, and clear and upfront about potential outcomes. They even explained the itemized billing in a way that was easy to comprehend. It's a bit of a drive out for me from San Jose (and the twists and turns on highway 17 are definitely not my fave), but it was worth it to get my bunny the help he needed. I'm grateful to all of the staff on site. And having a place like this around is something I don't take for granted.

I am disgusted reading one star reviews from people with no concept of how much time good thorough animal care takes and how much things cost. An estimate is an estimate they have only ever charged me for what was needed. They are utter professionals, a very highly regarded facility and quite frankly all you people that are sending in one star reviews don't deserve their service or care. I am a seasoned dog owner who has spent many hours and has had many visits to the ER over the years. However this last visit was brutal. We arrived at 830 am and didn't get fully seen and discharged for 12 hours ! 12 hours is insane to make someone with a sick animal wait. At least be up front on check in and say. You are likely looking at 5-6 hour wait. At least that way you can make a call and decide to not put your already sick animal through more stress. I get how triage works. Most pressing cases are seen first. But to have us come back into the exam room several times just to sit and wait for at least an hour or more each time is wild. The tech calls me and ask me if I've left and I say no I'm right outside and by the time I've come in they have forgotten about us and stick us in an exam room only to sit and wait another chunk of time. The vet was lovely and she helped diagnose my dog and set up a treatment plan. That was the only plus.

After switching his food, he developed what appeared to be a food allergy and became very sick. Before bringing him to Aptos-Capitola Veterinary Clinic, I specifically called and told them he did NOT have a rabies vaccine and asked, "Can you still see him?" They said YES, no problem. We went in, they treated him, recommended different food, and we left happy. Fast-forward about three months. My cat was still having problems and had been vomiting for months. I had recently spent approximately $5,000 at an emergency veterinary hospital in Monterey trying to figure out what was wrong, and we still didn't have the answers we needed. I brought him back to Aptos-Capitola hoping for help. The veterinarian who met with me was extremely cold from the start. I reminded him that my cat had been through a lot and explained the months of vomiting and emergency visits. He didn't seem to care about my story. He began palpating my cat's abdomen with what seemed to me like an excessive amount of pressure, and my cat began VIOLENTLY SHAKING. I was shocked. My cat had been examined multiple times at the emergency hospital and had NEVER reacted like this during an examination. Throughout the exam, the veterinarian repeatedly brought up that my cat wasn't vaccinated for rabies. I explained that he is an indoor cat and that I was refusing the rabies vaccine. Instead of focusing on why my cat was sick, the conversation became increasingly aggressive. In my experience, his tone was rough, he raised his voice, and he continued insisting on the rabies vaccination before thoroughly examining my cat. Meanwhile, my cat continued shaking. I finally said, "I am refusing the rabies vaccine. I am here because my cat is SICK. I have been here before without this being a problem. Why is this suddenly a problem today?" The situation became so upsetting that I left the clinic CRYING with my sick, shaking cat. I actually wasn't planning to write a negative review. Then recently, I received an extremely long letter from the clinic informing me that my family and I were no longer welcome because of this situation. I found the letter threatening and upsetting. Even more concerning, the letter referenced California law regarding rabies vaccination. That is what prompted me to contact my attorney and research the law. What I learned raised serious questions about what I had been told. California does not have a statewide law requiring cats to be vaccinated against rabies. Local jurisdictions can have their own requirements, but I have been unable to identify a California law that simply prohibits a veterinarian from examining an indoor cat because it isn't vaccinated. If this clinic has its own vaccination policy, SAY THAT. A clinic policy and California law are NOT the same thing. If you tell a client something is required "by California law," you should be able to identify the law. I have had animals for decades. Years ago, when I had a working farm, I worked with the veterinary program at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where veterinary students worked with and studied my animals. I have also spent many years researching vaccines before making my own decisions. People are entitled to disagree with those decisions. What I will NOT accept is being pressured and spoken to aggressively while my sick animal is visibly shaking, especially after this same clinic previously agreed to treat him knowing his vaccination status. My cat needed help. Instead, I left crying with a sick, shaking animal and later received a letter telling my entire family we were no longer welcome. I will NEVER forget this experience, and I absolutely cannot recommend this clinic.
