A friend recommend this place after my SO wanted to try another veg clinic in the area. Everyone is very friendly and patient with the furbabies. There is a cat and a dog area which I appreciate. Staff was great about navigating different dog needs (clear pathway sans other dogs or from car escorts). Very clear feedback and recommendations from the vet. Our dog was given lots of love and welcomed with treats to help her feel more comfortable and go through her shot and exam. My wife recently brought our two kittens we had just adopted from the Santa Cruz animal shelter. We've been going to the Scotts Valley Vet Clinic for years now as this has been our neighborhood vet and we've always loved the service we've received here. Unfortunately, our latest experience was less than desirable. The front office staff did not seem to respect that the two kittens were sick nor did they respect the use of our time, keeping my wife waiting for an extended period of time (close to 2 hours). When one of the kittens had an accident in the carrier while waiting, the office staff were not sympathetic or helpful...and were down right condescending. We still feel that the vet and vet techs here are great and have no complaints there. But we feel that the office staff at this clinic needs to re-evaluate how to handle customers if they want folks to continue to go to this clinic. Also, when a customer is upset about service, repeated calls trying to get to the bottom of things can be counterproductive and intimidating. We'll be using a mobile vet tech service in the area from here on out. read more

As an fyi, posting my Scott's Valley Vet experience of yesterday... after a long night with off/on trembling I called my nearby ER Vet at 5AM and was told they do rounds 6-7, and that I'd be seen around 7:30AM. Figuring my dog has been going to Scott's Valley for four years, I'd be better to go where we're a patient with full records, and a relationship. At 5AM, we did the drive over Rt. 17, through an atmospheric river... only to be told they were down a Vet and would not help, or see my trembling dog waiting in the car. Drove back to Sage Vet in Campell, and within 20 mins after arriving we were seeing a Vet. My conclusion is just about any Vet can prescribe meds on an appointmental date, (although they cancelled prior appointments and once when I set a same day appointment, then called back 30 mins later to cancel, they wanted to charge me for not giving 24 hour notice!). What matters most, for myself is after four years of a relationship, what is their actions when an emergency occurs and will they step up to try and help. I can't say enough about what a great experience I had here. I am out of town and my dog must have got stung or bitten by something and started having a severe reaction. Face was super swollen! I went into panicked dog momma mode and went to the closest place to me in the mountains. They are not an emergency vet, but they took Roo in immediately for me and attended to him with such care and concern. Both the front desk and the vets were amazing. They even never made me wonder how he was. Called me as soon as they had an update for him and as soon as he was ready and thankfully recovering. The staff has been amazing with all 3 of our dogs. Couldn't ask for better service and care when it comes to our fur babies. We started at their practice with a rescued cane corso and a rescued bully breed of some sorts. Both were seniors when we moved here part time. Our "dangerous" breed dogs are big babies and have always been treated great by their staff. We lost our cane corso and now have a sweet little rescue puppy and she has gotten great care as well. She has been a handful to give eye meds to and they have gone above and beyond all of our expectations for her. read more

Scotts Valley Veterinary can not handle cats. I went in for a routine exam, the required shots a nail trim and blood work. The shots completed and three paws got nail trims, starting with the back paws. (Me and my furniture were cut up until I could get her to a groomer to do the front paws.) I later made another appointment for the blood work.I was told to sedate her the night before a 2:00p.m appointment, then again 2 hours before the appointment. The cat knew I was trying something again after sedation the night before (fully alert now), so I had to cancel the appointment and drugged my cat last night for no reason. Very frustrated that I can't get the care needed from this Vet. Sedation before the appointment would have got the job done. read more

Dr. Schwartz is so wonderful to work with! We met her at the Pacific Animal Hospital when our dog needed emergency care. She was so great at the hospital that we followed her to Scotts Valley Vet. Let me say, our dog has atrocious manners at the vet. He is so excitable and a very big boy so he's quite a handful. Dr. Schwartz welcomes him with open arms. This is by far the best vet I have been to. Most vets should come here and learn from Dr. Emily. She is knowledgeable and very professional. Our little kitty, Mochi, had FIP and Dr. Emily was very helpful and told us exactly how it was and tried her best to help us find a solution, but since our cat was born with this deadly virus, it was too late. Unfortunately, our kitty was too ill to continue and had to put him down. Dr. Emily and her team made the whole process as easy as possible. We love Scotts Valley Vet! We've taken our cattle dog here since we got him (~5 years ago) and they have always been so kind and as low pressure as you can get about absolutely anything, presenting the options with the pros and cons and no judgment whatsoever about what you choose to do. We normally see Dr. Em (for our dog) and we just saw Dr. Schwartz for one of our two cats (bringing the other in soon!), and both women - and every single vet tech and the front desk staff - is just wonderful to see and puts you completely at ease. Their prices are very fair (and even less than other vets, according to friends of ours who go elsewhere) and we love the bedside manner. SV Vet had seen our beloved cat Romeo over the years for a few health issues. In Nov 2022, our sweet boy was not getting over a respiratory illness that his cat brother had also caught (but recovered from). Dr. Shull diagnosed that our darling was suffering from complications at an advanced age and was too far along to be helped. The grace and gentle clarity Dr. Shull exhibited in explaining our situation was immeasurably supportive. In a horrible moment in our lives, she was there for us, guiding with compassion while gently explaining the reality. I hope I never go through that again, but if I had to choose someone to be aid me at a critical time Dr. Shull would be first on my list. I can't thank Dr Shull enough for the outstanding treatment she provided to my senior, 5 lb chihuahua mix rescue who was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on her leg. This all took place in November 2021 and this review is quite overdue. The tumor was located on her front leg and due to it's location the only option I was given by my regular vet in San Francisco was amputation. It's usually the most successful treatment for that location as clean margins cannot be achieved through surgery. I did my research and found out about a new, groundbreaking treatment called Stelfonta, an injection, that was just approved by the FDA less than a year before. No one in San Francisco was yet providing the treatment and most vets had not even heard of it. Scotts Valley Vets were clearly on the cutting edge offering this treatment. The treatment was a huge success, but I have to attribute that success to both Dr Shull and Stelfonta. The injection requires specialized training and skill to accurately administer and after reading reviews (see the Facebook Stelfonta group) by other dog parents from around the country, whose experiences were not positive due to inadequate administration by an untrained vet, I feel so lucky to have found SV Vets and a skilled, compassionate, patient and generous vet like Dr Shull. It was so worth the drive from San Francisco! I also want to add that on Dr Shull's days off Dr Emily Miller was generous with her time and stepped in to answer questions I had after the treatment, so there is definitely teamwork in this practice that just isn't seen much anymore these days. 16 months later my little Brigid's leg is doing great...no scar or limp. For the past week, I was practically living at Scott's Valley Veterinary Clinic. Unfortunately, my cat was diagnosed with Lymphoma. I, like any other animal owner and lover, took the news extremely hard. From the moment I walked into the vet, I couldn't stop crying. Front desk Mary-Jo gave me tissues, vet tech Becca walked out to the front to grab my cat and also saw how upset I was. Her voice and demeanor soothed me and she promised to take great care of my little girl. I had the pleasure of seeing both Dr. Emily and Dr. Hill. I appreciated the fact that I was able to see the x-ray myself along with the Dr. The clinic was quiet and is conveniently located. I highly recommend SVVC. We're new to Scott's Valley and chose Scott's Valley Veterinary Clinic based on their already stellar reviews. They did not disappoint! The office was clean and the front desk staff were super sweet. I really liked that there ware two separated waiting rooms for cats and dogs. My kitty always gets super anxious when in the room with other dogs which can be quite rowdy so that was a plus for me. I loved the Vet who examined my cat. She got down on the floor with him and seemed to just genuinely like her job. She took time to answer all of my questions, to examine all possible causes of my cat's issue and made some solid suggestions. No sale pitches for products or unnecessary testing involved. I have taken my pets to many vets in the past and found this one to be one of the best I've experienced. read more

This clinic has been my Veterinary Clinic since 1987. I started with Dr Miller and now his wonderful daughter Dr Em. The team of the clinic is kind, compassionate and professional. From the front desk to the Veterinarians all folks treat me, my beloved pets as family. This last weekend was extremely difficult and I had to make the decision to put our dear almost 15 year old lab to sleep. Dr Olivia was an amazing compassionate person. Since I called you last about Bravecto not working, had to call western exterminators. How come when I called you last and said Bravecto not working ( bought 2) Your reply was, "That is your option, you can always return or exchange a product that you think is not working." For such an expensive product, the vet could've returned my call or even said, "After so many uses, they lose their efficacy. You told me vet call me about my worries about my dog. I waited 2 days by the phone; backburn alot of other places had to be! No emails. You knew that this product loses it's efficacy after continual use, yet you failed to tell me. S.V., let dog suffer for 2 days? I bought 6 months of Bravecto and told you 6 weeks in that it's not working! You guys ignored me. I want my money back for the 2nd Bravecto I purchased since given such bad advice about the first of two orders! Each were $63.00. I paid for 2 of these; never advising me that it loses efficacy over continual use of this product. I did call in and ask for help, "Vet will call you, bye." read more

This place is awesome! I love the Doctors here. It's comforting to know that when I take my pup in he will be treated with the best care they can offer. My first dog, Waffle, had diabetes. Dr. Miller and Dr. Hill were always so accommodating and worked their schedules around to fit us in for blood panels, examinations, emergencies, etc.... I am forever grateful for the quality of care my best friend received and for the constant support they provided us for taking care of a diabetic pet. Six years later, we decided maybe it was time we adopted a puppy. I initially did not want to bring my new pup here because this place brought up so many memories of Waffle. I was 11 years old when I first brought Waffle here, I feel like I spent the better part of my childhood here. After going to another pet hospital in Santa Cruz, I was convinced it was difficult to find a solid and dependable vet. So I sucked it up and took my pup, Pablo, to Scotts Valley Vet. Everything was exactly how I remembered... the friendly staff, the knowledgeable doctors, the kindness and gentleness towards animals, and the dependability. They are SO awesome!! Both doctors are really nice . Recently, I took one of our feline babies to a new vet closer to our home (we moved to San Jose). They told us she needed to have dental work. Our kitty seemed really uncomfortable during the check up, so I took her back to Scotts Valley Vet to get a second opinion . She didn't like the long car ride, but once she got there, it was good. She saw Dr. Miller who confirmed that she needed dental work, but had much better bedside manners as he explained our options and the pros and cons of each. He answered all my questions and concerns without rushing me out. At one point, while Dr. Miller and I were talking, kitty even went up to him for a pat! That's how comfortable she was around him!! The surgery went well. The staff was so good about checking up on her the next day. I had a few concerns that they addressed. Our baby is doing great now. I was worried that she might drool more or her tongue would stick out. None of that happened. In fact, she doesn't even seem to notice she has two missing teeth. We can't even tell, because she is still her adorable, mischievous self. I would totally recommend Scotts Valley Vet. They are so good with the animals and are even better at patiently reassuring worried parents like me! read more

I'm 63 years old. I've had a lot of dogs and a few horses and I've seen many different vets over the years in different parts of California. Dr Miller has proven over and over to be the best I've ever come across, with everything from diagnostics to meds to surgery and he's never tried to sell me any products unless I've asked him myself for something. On top of that, he and everyone else in there are great which is not on my list of what I need in a vet but what a huge plus when you have to go there. I wound up at Scotts Valley Veterinary with Dr Miller after having problems with a vet here in Santa Cruz who was very nice and friendly but couldn't figure out my dogs problem after a few visits and a few different meds. When I did see Dr Miller he did a poop swab and came back from the microscope in less than 2 minutes with answers and the right meds. That was the first visit. My dog is a Doberman he's 8yrs old now and unfortunately for me he's had more problems than I can count over the years and a couple have been problems specific to his breed. Dr Miller has never let me or my dog down once and he's always tried to save me money and offered me options. I just had my dog there again last week for a deep bite on his side that tore up the muscle too. It's nice having a vet who's a good and experienced surgeon as well. Besides the clean work he does, if he's feeling something on another visit, he knows what's going on inside under the skin. While my dog was under for the operation Dr Miller did his teeth too which he was due for 2 weeks ago. That saved me the cost of anesthesia. He also trimmed his nails and he pulled 2 fox tails out of his ear that he didn't even have to go looking for, but he did. No charge for nails and fox tails. read more

Over the phone i had an issue with my appointment and my charges and she also was indifferent on the situation and just advice me to cancel appointment without any other solution. Dr. Miller and his staff were the first to notice what was wrong with our 2 year old Newfoundland.....a complicated blood cancer. They coordinated labs and other tests with the specialists we needed, always happy to explain things and answer questions. Prices do not seem any higher than other vets (after reading some of the other reviews). If you're concerned about budget, it's a good idea to ask about charges first with any business. If you're looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, professional veterinary clinic, this is a good one. Very low staff turnover, so it's good to see the same nurses and technicians year after year, and it helps make visits more efficient when your pet is recognized when you check in. read more
