I like this pizza place, it's quaint, good vibes, good pizza.....but then you add this.....(oh my god, I just saw a grown man get hit in the neck with a soccer ball!) ( oh my word, the waitress almost got pummeled with a soccer ball while holding wine glasses, beers and pizza!) What is happening here!?! Is this chucky cheese?? No wait, you have to sign a waiver to enter chuck's! But not here.... You order your food, have some drinks and wait to watch who's gonna be the 1st one to get into litigation with this business. There were 1yr olds playing on this Astro turf and 10yr olds trying to see if they could make it to the World Cups. And it's always 1 table that will ruin all for the whole crowd. A table full of adults on their phones as their children terrorize the rest of the other children trying to play nice. And if you ask the servers to get a manager to ask them to take the balls away they say, "sorry we can't, the owner set it up." Well, owner you beware, if watching out for your employees and patrons are not top priority then I will take my business over to Rays where the pizza is better and/or just drink my alcohol at the Oddessy and get my food there. I came here for a quick lunch during work hours since the Mount Pleasant location has been on my list to try for some time. I ordered the gluten free pepperoni and chicken pizza well done. The serving size for a gluten free was massive compared to other establishments. The pizza was really good it's a wood fired Italian version. The chicken on the pizza was ok and the pizza itself was a bit over well done. When it turns my fingers black that's a bit of an issue. Other than that would definitely try it again! read more

My work colleague lives in Charleston and has been wanting to try this place, so off we went. 3 stars because this is like the tale of 2 different restaurants. 5 stars to the food! The pizza's were really yummy. Cooked well and that sauce is so balanced! Not too sweet, not too much acid. They are generous with the cheese as well. Order the Grandma though and thank me later. One of our party ordered the spaghetti with meatballs. He said they were the best meatballs he's had in years! Not dry, but pleasantly juicy and flavorful. 1 star for the service. Our server was certainly nice and friendly, but she was also absent for most of the meal. She didn't know the bar (when we were ordering drinks, she had to go back and ask several times about what they had - come on, Bacardi is not exotic), and we had to flag someone else down for water refills, etc. Never checked on us either, just asked if everything was OK when we got the check. I would chalk it up to a new server or something, but prior reviews have mentioned the service, and not in a good way. So a 3 it is. Service was great at first, but I asked for some bread with pasta, she said it doesn't come with that ordered. Then I was like uh oh, this isn't going to be good. when we opened our food, well let's just say it was mediocre at best. Come on man, give a little heart to what you cook. Spaghetti w Meatballs and Bolognese should be your signature pasta dish; they are top of the menu so y'all must sell a lot and to a lot of families of 4 or more. $100 bucks out the door with a tip. Great outdoor option for families with children, with picnic tables, running and playing space, but not great for those who DON'T want kids running around. Our drinks were forgotten about, the food came out before our drinks arrived (we were still charged for them). Pizza was not bad for the area, but was lacking flavor and crisp (very soft undercarriage). I had higher expectations, given the proper pizza oven they have. I am visiting Charleston for 10 days. I had high hopes for the wood-fired pizza at Coastal Crust. There were a few patrons at the bar, which seemed cozy. And the young lady who greeted me and took my order was very nice. That's where the good stopped. The pizza was not crusty nor crispy but "floppy" when you picked it up. It was burned on the bottom, and the crust, as well, in places on the top. The top would've been okay as it was easily picked off, but the bottom being burnt made the pizza inedible for the most part. I love wood-fired, but it shouldn't taste burned and still be floppy. The meatball slices were nothing to write home about either. It sounded so good on the menu. I am disappointed. I was really looking forward to a decent pizza. read more

Went back again this Friday for some wine and pizza. The outside area is so nice especially for the kids and the pizza is delicious! Here's the problem... The wine pours are tiny. They barely give a half glass of wine and at $11-12 per glass, it's just not worth it. We decided to end the night with a glass inside and the pour was almost double. Gluten free crust not safe for celiacs. They are unable to cook the gf crust on any type of barrier to prevent cross contamination.

We got a GF mushroom Bianca, it was pretty okay. Maybe like 10 mushrooms on the whole pizza. I expected and was hoping for more. Crust is a tough once it cools. Barely any toppings. I was kinda disappointed. Don't go here if you want to make a custom pizza. They don't have olives or peppers or hamburger. They only have the ingredients for the other pizzas. They're a specialty pizza place, not your average papa John's. This is a no-go for picky eaters, unless you just want cheese.... Our waiter was helpful and nice. Quite disappointed in my recent experience at Coastal Crust this past weekend. I tried to place an online order which has been down for quite sometime. I just find it more convenient to order online if possible. I then tried calling which it was busy for at least 15 minutes. No big deal-just decided to drive on up and order. Placed my order and headed over to Odyssey as the bar was packed at CC. It was a beautiful night so outside was packed too. I ordered the supremo, caesar salad, and the fig and prosciutto pizza. Waited about 25 minutes and came back to pick up. I've never checked my order before I left but guess I should have. Took my food over to meet some friends and realized the caesar was nothing more than a bunch of lettuce and barely anything else not even dressing. The fig and prosciutto was on point luckily! The supremo may have had 4 pepperoni's and a few sausage pieces. It was laughable the amount of meat on it. At this point we were all starving and did not feel like taking the food back. I get being busy but this was unacceptable. I absolutely love this place but feel like they need to adjust some things before the nice weather is upon us as they will continue to be busy every weekend. If you're in the mood for a classic wood fired Neapolitan style pizza look no further! Coastal Crust on James Island is a great place with lots of dining space~ both indoor and out. CC offers great salads, small plates, antipasto plates, add the bread "flight" with three types of blended oil dips, pasta/ shrimp dish, chicken parmesan. Classic spaghetti and meatballs and of course the variety of pizzas will have you returning and wanting more. The ingredients are present and are all fresh and local right down to the tomatoes! I ordered the arugula salad which was wonderful-- I loved the small sides of basil pesto and whipped ricotta touches in the salad. The balsamic drizzle added a sweet taste to cut the bitter arugula ( although I love the bitterness of arugula) however I did ask for the house white balsamic vinaigrette in order to blend the salad together and moisten it a bit. I did add grilled chicken for some protein and the chicken was grilled perfectly. All in all CC will be a "go to" for me as they have proven to be consistently good and take no shortcuts with quality and presentation of their food. The Fig and Prosciutto pizza is such a different type of pie and I love that combo. As per the name of the establishment you don't have to worry about the crust crispness, it'll be there! Lots of opportunities to improve! The waitresses, all very young, need to be taught how to be good wait staff. Sweet girls, but mostly. clueless. Asked for pepper, they brought it. By itself. Had to ask for salt later. This is important because I had to add salt to the spaghetti and meatballs. A few shreds of Parmesan. When asked for shredded parm, she told me they didn't have it. Well, they do, just not extra for customers. We got grated parm from the fridge, and it had no taste-no sharpness or any flavor. You have to ask for ice. That's just one of my personal pet peeves. We're not in Europe. While our waitress was really good at clearing dishes, I also know that she thought one of the other waitresses had cool shoes. We were the ONLY people seated in the main area, maybe have your conversations away from us. And it would be nice for you to make eye contact, so we don't have to continually speak up when we needed something. Again, simple training. The only adult looked like she was the bartender/manager? She joined in their chit chat, and then had friends come in. (So, even though she had been in the food area with her hair up - which is good - she took at down, ran her fingers through it. I'm gonna bet she did not wash her hands before handling food or making drinks. As for the food, the chicken with all a vodka had some good flavor with tender chicken. As for the aforementioned spaghetti.... The meatballs were good. Sauce? Meh. And I don't think the pasta was fresh. It needed salt and I NEVER add salt. Tried calling several times to place a take out order, no one answered. We drove and placed the order: was estimated 40 minutes and was told we would be called if it was sooner. I believe I've had them as a food truck before and it was phenomenal. This time around we had a Locals coupon for a free meatball appetizer. I'm convinced that whenever someone else writes that the specific food is amazing it almost kills my chance of feeling the same way because I have such high expectations. I thought the meatballs were good, just not as amazing as what some others may think. LOL. We also tried the bread service, which is not bad at all! I don't know if it's my jam enough to get it again, but just out of preference. The pesto was really good. Pizza is, of course, a very personal taste - but everyone loves their pizzas. Homemade dough, nicely salted, with fresh-tasting oil in the crust, wonderfully crisped. I have only had the grandma's pizza (basically a margarita with sauce instead of fresh tomato slices), but my daughter says others are just as good - as does our granddaughters. Had a wonderful special salad with watermelon, feta, greens, with a sprinkling of basil olive oil and drops of honey. Rather expensive at $14, but unusual and well done. Tap selection of beers was reasonable, but price, again, a bit high. $9 for a draft is a bit over the top. Service was fast and friendly and the place clean and bustling. Prices will keep us from coming here as often as I would like, but we do want to come back to try some of their pasta dishes. They looked great and folks I asked said they were delicious. read more

This is my 3rd visit and the kitchen just seems to be slower and slower with each visit. The food is yummy, don't get me wrong, but there is a lot more to be desired for when visiting. Our server was nice, but not very knowledgeable about wine; she was nice to go and ask someone for the answer but either didn't pronounce the name correctly (Malabaila, white from Piedmont, Italy) or the bartender had no clue, because he told her all the reds were dry. I opted for the rose and received a small pour compared with other glass pours next to mine. Right before ordering, I heard the kitchen say pizza was running 1 hr; I asked and was told 25 mins and as a result of this I opted for pasta. It took 30 mins for my daughter's kid ravioli to come to the table without my linguine, which arrived 10 mins later. Again, don't get me wrong, our food was amazing; but I repeatedly saw plates of "bread service" come out burnt to a crisp without one coming back. And paninis were served burnt as well. Their kitchen is small, which is the right size for the restaurant, but doesn't appear to be able to handle the increases food orders that come through when outside is open and the significant amount of mobile orders pouring in. I am always impressed with everything that they do every time that I come here.
