Their food is great! but be prepared to wait for it. Do not go if you're in a rush. This is the type of spot to grab a drink while you wait on your order or order to go well in advance. They have a great outdoor bar with picnic tables, indoor seating, and an indoor bar section. They have some of my favorite pizzas on the Island for a great price and great quality. The staff is always very friendly. The three stars is really for how slow things can take. This is a consistent experience whether they are slammed packed or you're only one of five people in the restaurant. read more

This has been a go-to restaurant for us for years. Alas... We had a bad experience a few months ago, they were out of fries, out of pepperoni... didn't tell us until our pepperoni pizza came out without pepperoni.... Just sort of a fiasco. They apologized, told us they'd had a busy night the night before and gave us a $15 gift certificate to make up for it. Went again tonight to give them a chance to redeem themselves (and redeem the certificate). My son pointed to the nightly special burger on the table placard ("Backyard Burger" literally the only thing printed on it) and asked for it by name. We also ordered a few pizzas a salad and some fries. When the order came out... no burger or fries. We were finished eating and ready to go when they brought out two burgers, but the wrong ones (California Burgers). Whatever, mistakes happen. I waited tables for ten years. My issue is that after we sent those two wrong burgers back... we never saw the waiter or manager again. They sent the poor hostess out to settle the check while they hid in the back. It's a shame because the food is solid, but we probably won't be back. read more

Been here a few times - finally getting around to a review. Pizza is solid, nice selection/variety of options, staff is pretty nice. It's been kinda crowded each time, so you have to wait for a table, but thankfully it hasn't been a terrible wait. Most recently went for the Restaurant Week deal and tried the pepperoni rolls, which were pretty tasty. I have tried a few different pizzas and all have been good. Nice place for a casual meal, some drinks, and they always have sports on, if that's your thing. read more

This stop was a pleasant surprise--we hadn't planned on visiting, but we're so glad we did! Fam's Brewing Co. is a great brewery with a totally pet-friendly outdoor patio. We especially loved the convenience of the outdoor bar, which made grabbing drinks super easy. It's always a bonus when a brewery offers food, and since we were starving, we each ordered a wrap that was delicious. Luna was offered water (we always bring our own bowl, but it's always nice when places offer), and she happily curled up under the table to rest after a full day of swimming at the beach. My husband got a beer flight and an extra half-pour of their vanilla latte brew-it was light, refreshing, and really hit the spot. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. Great outdoor which is dog friendly. Can't believe its at a strip mall since you forget your are there. On to the food, I got the wings which were in special and my husband got the Chicago style pizza. They are HUGE/dense , we took leftovers home and it weighed a lot! Great outside patio/bar/live music on a sunny Sunday. We came for the oyster roast and stayed for the vibes. Outside patio is dog friendly and chill. We were excited to try Fam's after hearing it served "real" Chicago pizza, but unfortunately, it missed the mark completely. My boyfriend lived in Chicago for 20 years and felt he could have made a better dough, sauce, and overall flavor at home. The pizza was bland, the dough tasted like thick cardboard, and it lacked everything that makes Chicago-style pizza great. The experience didn't improve with the service. Though we originally planned to take it to go, we decided to dine in so the pizza wouldn't get cold. The restaurant was empty, yet we had no waitress, had to ask for utensils, and were never offered water. Overall, it was a disappointing experience in both food and service. I've been here twice now in the last two weeks and am kicking myself I haven't been here more. The outdoor patio is my favorite, it's spacious and dog friendly and there's always a seat for me at the bar. Lately I've been getting the Chokes-n-Chicken pizza and adding mushrooms and bacon. It's so good and hits the spot every time. Even with a small pie u have enough leftovers for a snack or light meal later. I've only tried two of their lagers/pilsners on hand and a small ipa (sorry I can't remember their names off hand but I'll snag them next time) that have been really good. I searched for breweries in between Folly Beach and West Ashley and stumbled on Fam Brewing. Located right off Folly Road in James Island. It has indoor and outdoor seating with a big wraparound bar. Got to talking to the waitress and there are multiple football games on during the season, so this might be my new spot. On Sundays they do half priced appetizers. I got the pepperoni rolls and pretzels. The pretzels were so so. It claims that it came with beer cheese, but it was more like the yellow nacho cheese that you would get at a baseball game, the pepperoni rolls on the other hand were delicious! They were wrapped in egg roll paper and deep fried. They came with four rolls and marinara dipping sauce so it was just enough for two people to share. Couldn't decide which beer to get so I tried the sour up, beach, light, business launch, and skinny vanilla latte. They were all very unique flavors, but with my like of light fruity beers, I went with a sour. We had high hopes because of the good pies at their Cane Bay location, but left disappointed at Fam's Brewery. Things started with a Caesar salad that came with dressing that had a hair in it. We went here for the Jimmy Buffett concert. The place was completely packed with people inside and out, but no matter what the bartender always got our drinks at a very quick pace. They were hustling for sure we went on the waitlist to get a seat. And it only took about 20 to 30 minutes for us to sit seven people. We had great service and ordered our pizzas. They came out promptly and my word were they delicious, I got the spicy Hawaiian pizza and I ate the entire thing which I am not ashamed to say. I honestly think that was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. They had a great beer selection. The music was phenomenal. I used to love Fam's but lately the service has gotten pretty bad. The last two times we had the same server and both times left me less than satisfied. First time we had literally just gotten our food and I was mid-bite when he came and asked if we needed anything else. We said no thanks so he says ok, you can go ahead and close the tab. Literally eating and I had to stop to get my card and pay. I let it go. Today, the exact same server completely forgot my salad when bringing my family their food. He was no where to be found for a significant amount of time so I told my family to eat before it got cold. He finally comes back and is ready to close us out when I tell him I never got my salad. He goes to get it and forgets the dressing. I'm seriously a pretty patient person but this was a lot. He did comp the salad which was appreciated but I just wish the service was better. Huge brewery with nice size bar and a really awesome menu. The moment you walk in they greet you and make you feel welcome. I came for the first time looking for flight of beer and this definitely was the spot. I love the fact that there is food menu along with the beer menu at this brewery. They also have a decent size outdoor area and it's perfect for cool weather and big size groups. I will come back for more when passing the area for sure. Friendly service from beginning to end. Stopped in during our vacay to Folly Beach on a very hot and humid evening. The hostess sat us at a high top inside. I think if it wasn't 98 degrees we would have enjoyed our meals more. It was quite warm inside even with the large ceiling fan running. First we ordered the meatball appetizer, and a doz. Wings; Teriyaki and BBQ and drinks. The meatballs were tasty with the red sauce and basil. The chicken wings would have been better had they been fried vs. oven baked which was an option. My son got a salad (smart on a hot night), my girls split a chicken California wrap and my wife and I ordered the Italian Grinder. I liked the Italian Grinder and the fries were hand cut and covered in Parmesan. The girls were not fond of the wrap. They both said it was bland and there wasn't any Avocado in the wrap which is the one ingredients that is synonymous with anything with California in the name. It can be challenging to find good gluten free pizza. This one is really good! I appreciated it was only a few bucks more. Our group ordered three different pizzas. We all enjoyed what we got. The large pizza- was HUGE. My spouse enjoyed his beer. Pay attention to your bill esp bc its read to you and not shown to you. Our server put my pizza on our friends bill. We did clarify with him ahead of time to clarify what should have been on the bills. (No apology or offer to remedy. That was odd. )But we will be back to get more yummy pizza! I didn't have a good experience here. First, our chicken caesar wrap was sadly inedible. The lettuce was wilted and soggy, chicken was cold, the wrap itself was wet. Second, when I called to order the wrap (and other items), the girl said "what sides would you like with that?" - making it seem like these meals came with sides at no clst. She did not mention they were extra money! I thought this was pretty rude. Third, they didn't cut any of our sandwiches in half, and didn't give us any cutlery (we got takeout). Safe to say we won't be returning. This is unfortunate because I really wanted to like it! Ugh. read more

Always a nice place to eat on James Island. It took a little while for the waitress to initially come to the table, but I think that we were just lost in the mix of things. How many fries could one be reasonably expected to share with a friend? 1? 2? Certainly not 3? Either party is put in an uncomfortable position. The person who ordered them may feel stingy if they don't offer, and the friend may feel they don't have the right to ask. You see the predicament here right????
