Had a wonderful time waiting at the front counter with a handful of things I wanted to purchase. I stood there for 20 minutes while the employees discussed which range you could shoot steel case at. I've driven past Ammo Brothers more times than I can remember and have dropped in a few times to browse, but have never actually done business with them. This morning I was meeting a guy to conduct a private party transfer and we decided to meet at Ammo Bros since I wanted to drop in and check them out anyways. I got here early before they opened, but their doors opened promptly at 10am. I didn't get his name, but we were assisted by a guy with a mustache who helped us through the whole process and even though the buyer of my firearm had never done a PPT before, they very patient through the whole process and helped us with everything. I've been using Discount Guns for years and decided to give Ammo Bros a try.... what a great outfit to work with! ALL staff were knowledgeable in both firearms options as well as CA's gun laws. They took the time to explain to me, in detail, any restrictions that currently exist. They had it in stock and also price matched another local shop with no hassle. I ended up purchasing 2 firearms. Once again they processed DROS paperwork and payment very efficiently. I wish I was able to give this review more than five stars, because this was by far the best service experience I have had while purchasing ammunition! When I first walked into Ammo Bros they were swamped! Despite being incredibly busy, a guy named Eric greeted me right away and asked me what he could help me with. I'm newer to handgun shooting and I had a few questions that I legitimately needed answered. (Prior to coming to Ammo Bros, I was at another store to purchase ammunition and I asked the same questions there and the "employee" made me feel like an idiot for even asking them. He even laughed at me when I told him I was confused. I'm not going to mention the name of that store, but I say that to say just how much I appreciated Eric's help at Ammo Bros!) Eric was juggling multiple customers at the same time, yet still giving each customer individualized attention and respect, which was really cool to see. He had a very friendly demeanor and was extremely knowledgeable with every single thing I asked him!! I live all the way up in Carlsbad, but I will gladly go out of my way to drive all the way down to Mira Mesa just to give my business to Ammo Bros, and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone & everyone who is in the firearms "scene" to do the same! The guys in here are great! Total opposite of other gun stores. They are friendly and willing to help you. They are willing to show you anything you want to look at. They are willing to teach you if necessary. Can't say enough about the guys that work here. The prices on the other hand are generally more than other places. They usually don't have sale items in stock. The point of sale system is clunky and outdated. Also, with California's lame gun laws, it would be awesome if they could occasionally stock something that is not similar to every other gun store. Maybe a scar or something unique. Ammo Bros San Diego is, bar none, the most consistently positive experience I've ever had with a gun store. The cliché standoffish, gatekeeping gun store employee could not be further from the truth at Ammo Bros. Navigating the great State of California's labyrinthine gun laws is a full time job in and of itself, yet every employee I've encountered at Ammo Bros SD not only educated me on the nuances of being a law-abiding CA gun owner, but did so with ease and patience. Ammo Bros SD hosted my California Firearms Safety Certificate test on a Friday, as a walk-in, with no wait or complaint. When my secondary proofs of CA residency were _potentially_ insufficient, they had me email them my utility bill and they printed it on the spot. Purchasing a firearm in California takes roughly 3 forms across ~11-13 pages, and throughout the entire process, Ammo Bros was helpful, patient, and kind. Went into this location specifically due to a recommendation from a friend. The experience itself was great! The staff is very knowledgeable and not pushy. Products are up to date and the store is well stocked. However, after the clerk pulled out a giant cell phone with a plug in card readerto complete the transaction, I became hesitant. Why would a chain have a plug in card reader? Apparently they have had issues with the computers and the solution was a new system but it doesn't link with the card reader. Sorry, but, I'm not going to spend good money (on the SIG M18 no less) at a place that uses a gun show quality system. It is hella unprofessional in a business sense. It seems like this has been a theme/ongoing issue as shown by other reviews. Even though I work around the corner from Ammo Bros, it's been a minute since I've been in. Still some of the same, SOLID crew on deck (big props to Gene and Eric). Prices on ammo have gone waaaay up (thanks, COVID) and selection has gotten lighter (word is things are slowly improving). But the real reason I come here, and this is ZERO BS, is everyone here (BTW, I just found out that they are NOT paid a commission, just California minimum wave) is absolutely willing to spill their knowledge into the customer. Solid folks! Knowledgeable team. I've seen them get a little short with some customers, but I've never seen that happen undeservedly. Honest, straight shooters. Missed these cats. Updated review. I NEVER leave reviews , but I left one after visiting them looking for ammo a few weeks ago, and bought a revolver for my wife. If my review was a 10 before, it's 20 now. I live close to the Santa Ana and Cerritos stores, but after my second visit to the San Diego location to pick up the revolver, I will drive the extra 100 miles to go to this location.
