Reviews With Photos - Coastal Vacation Resorts

Recently rented a duplex from Coastal, and NEVER will again. First, I reserved Westside for the first week of October, several months ago. Soon after I decided to stay an extra week and reserved Eastside for the following week because Westside wasn't available for the that particular week. We got there 20 minutes early and had a code to get in, it didn't work. Called the office and Faith refused to let us in, even after driving for 11 hours to get there. Finally got in at 3:00p, and the odor about knocked us over. We looked around and found the tubs filthy, the floors were not properly vacuumed and I don't think the hard surfaced floors had ever been mopped. The ceiling fans had an inch of black dust all over them, there was sand on the night stands, a skillet with dried egg all around the inside, and the oven was so nasty we would not cook in it. So I called and spoke with Faith or Brooke, and they sent the same housekeepers that had supposedly cleaned it earlier that day, back. One of the housekeepers told us that the property was owned by a woman and her brother owned the other side (Eastside) and they would not provide proper cleaning supplied to do a good job and even said the reason the stairs weren't swept was because the owner wouldn't provide a handheld vacuum (I suppose the housekeepers couldn't use a broom)... So, we stepped out on the deck to let them redo the cleaning job and they left. We went back in, and you still couldn't tell they had been there. There were 3 of us staying at that point, and all 3 of us in our 70's. One of our party fell very ill Saturday evening, and was worse on Sunday, so we had other things to worry about other than NASTY accommodations, and he was transported by ambulance to a near by hospital early Monday morning. So we all three spent Monday thru Thursday at that hospital. HOWEVER, on Wednesday when we knew all was well with our sick companion, I called the office again to complain about the FILTH. I was told the housekeepers would be back. I asked that they come after 3:00p, because we were headed back to the hospital. I left bight bright pink post-it notes around indicating what needed attention in case they came while we were gone. One note was on the floor right beside a HUGE ROACH that said "Get this F'er out of here". We got back just a little before 3:00p, open the door to find the notes gone, but a brand new Dollar Store Vacuum Cleaner sitting by the door. I called the office AGAIN, and was told "the housekeepers had been there, taken pictures, showed them to the manager and the housekeeping manager, and they WILL NOT BE BACK'. So... my sister and I went to the store, bought cleaning supplies and cleaned the joint ourselves. I forgot to mention that there were supposed to be rocking chairs on the deck, and there were none. NOW TO EASTSIDE - When I booked Eastside, I was told the move would be made as easy as possible and that we could just sit our belongings on the deck while the housekeepers cleaned Eastside, and that they would start cleaning Eastside as soon as those occupants checked out and that we could leave our food in the refrigerator at Westside until we moved in, which would be as soon as Eastside was clean. SO, the occupants of Eastside left about 5:00a. I called the office around 9:00a and spoke with NATHAN to let them know that Eastside was empty and that we had all of our stuff out of Westside. A little after 10;00a I called back and spoke with Nathan to let him know the housekeepers still had not shown up. He put me on hold, AND THEN... a woman that refused to identify herself very hatefully began to talk to me like crap. She said "DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT LEAVE NASTY NOTES FOR OUR HOUSEKEEPERS"... I said "no, I left one for your exterminator" and she said 'AND WHAT DID IT SAY... WHAT DID IT SAY"... I told her exactly what it said. Then she said the housekeepers won't be there until you move your car. I asked her what her name was again, and again she refused to give it to me, and asked her if she could at least let the housekeepers know what the agreement was so they would know it was okay to come on and clean AND THEN SHE SAID "MOVE YOUR CARS OR I WILL CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE YOU REMOVED FROM THE PROPERTY"... We hung up and I moved our vehicles off the property. The housekeepers came and left. So, we start moving our stuff into Eastside. It is a little cleaner that Westside was, until we got upstairs. The Bedroom with twin beds STUNK so bad of urine, we could not use that room and just left it closed off. The upstairs bathtub had such a weak floor, it felt like the floor would give in at any given moment, so we were afraid to use it, AND THE BEDSPREAD in the room with the queen bed, HAD A BIG BLOOD STAIN ON IT, and the Living room I was afraid to even call the office about what was going on in Eastside, especially after being treated the way the unidentified woman talked to me and threatened me.

    Smell was overwhelming especially upstairs

This review pertains to the property "Dune Life," located at 214 Ocean Blvd East, Holden Beach, NC…read more Lesson learned - if you see an exterminator at your vacation rental at check-in time you should go the other way! We arrived at Dune Life at our 4pm check-in time to find an exterminator truck parked in the driveway. We were immediately concerned to see this, so my husband inquired with the gentleman on site to find out what was going on. He stated that they were there for routine spraying and it was completely safe for us and our pets. We took him at his word but thought it was rather odd that a rental company would allow an exterminator to come at the same time guests are about to check-in... unless of course they were aware of a problem. The home itself was lovely - recently updated, very spacious, and appeared clean on the surface. However, there was one major issue - ROACHES!! After our group unloaded and settled in for the week, including unpacking our nearly $500 grocery order, we started to notice these disgusting pests surfacing throughout the evening. Roaches were found crawling on the counters, cabinets, walls, floors, and even on the sofa! I've attached a few pictures showing what we experienced. We also found ants crawling on the counters, but we know this is a more common problem that we could have tolerated. Once we realized there was likely a roach infestation in the home, we contacted Proactive Vacations early Sunday morning via the afterhours emergency email and phone number. They were quick to respond to our call. We worked with one of their property coordinators who was very professional and did her best to handle the situation by relocating us to another available home. The two options they offered us were not the best. The home we ultimately went with (the better of the two) was not comparable to the home we rented (e.g. Duplex versus house; 1 master bedroom versus 3, etc.), and the condition of the property was fair at best. We did not report all the issues we found with the replacement home because why bother - there were no alternative pet-friendly, oceanfront homes available. As such, we settled for the sake of being able to continue our vacation without further disruption. We had driven 6 hours with two dogs and knew our last-minute options were likely limited. At least the replacement home did not have roaches. The whole ordeal of having to pack up and relocate to another home was extremely disruptive to our vacation and really left us feeling stressed, frustrated, and misled about the pest situation in the home we rented. Proactive Vacations did credit my credit card for the difference in price of the rentals (as they should have!) since the replacement home was smaller and less expensive than the home we rented. However, they never responded to my request for a partial refund, nor did they offer any compensation for the inconvenience and wasted time we experienced having to move to another property. Instead, they made sure to charge us for the one night we stayed in the roach infested home. A top-notch rental company who cares about their guests would have offered compensation without question. We are honest people who just wanted to enjoy a vacation that was interrupted due to no fault of our own. We were the only ones inconvenienced by this situation, yet we are stuck paying full price for a vacation rental that we didn't choose and was less than ideal for our needs. Despite this unfortunate experience with Proactive Vacations, we still love Holden Beach and will return again in the future. Next time, we won't be using this rental company.

The amount of gook in the filters and water arms of the dishwasher would be considered a health hazard! Had a ceiling leak that drenched a lower floor mattress and clothing and no on would come out and service the issue that night so people had to sleep on couches. A pocket door on the stairway was sooo filthy with built up dirt and mold because somehow the property manager was unaware the door even existed he also didn't know that dishwashers have filters to be cleaned!!!! the house is misrepresented in the photos being new and pristine and furniture was different. The customer service was non existent and rude when they did contact and wanted to blame my family for the leak which was actually caused by the cleaning crew that had to come back and ran the water in the shower. The mattresses are extremely cheap noisy and uncomfortable. My family has vacationed on Holden Beach for 32 years, had always used Hobbs or Alan Holden realty, they are tried and true and never had such maintenance issues EVER! If the home owner is already aware of these issues they should be embarrassed if they aren't someone should make them aware. so i'm sure it's obvious I will never use Proactive again and you shouldn't either! look at other reviews!

The towels were all left in a bag, last year they were placed hanging in the bathroom. The glass top table clearly hadn't been cleaned with Windex for possibly months if not longer. The toilet paper forget it we bring our own...the bushes need cutting back again to see to pull out in traffic. The stairs and wooden walkway are getting more than sketchy...we love Chuck. He haunts the house! Mildew or mold from Hazel? Lots of sneezing going on and stuffy noses...we think the air ducts perhaps? Crazy about our porch. Wish 10 days were an option! The beach is wonderful where we were located! Nobody across the street! Didn't see flying termites swallowing the tele this year! Yay! Stellar service from Amanda at Hobbs Realty. Also, if you see Sea Witch Cottage for a rental in Holden Beach for $3100 that is not the actual price and this will happen to you as well. They were trying to change our lease agreement from the $2282 they had it listed for when we booked it and signed our agreement to be for $4390. And the listing that went up today AFTER Amanda cancelled our booking is for $3143. Update 6:02 pm on 12/19pm. We just received an email from Hobbs Realty confirming our cancellation at 5:38pm, this is the third contact we received after they were closed for the day about this situation. We never asked for a cancellation. They did this being fully aware that we had contacted the NC Attorney General's office with a complaint. Beware, they had prices listed on their website on 12/9/22, we booked our trip and signed the rental contract, and were then called 2 days after we signed and told that the price was incorrect on both the website and our contract that was sent on 12/12 by $2108 plus taxes and fees and that they would not rent to us at the price in the signed contract. They also conveniently waited until after they were closed for the weekend to call us. We called first thing this morning and tried to figure out a solution and were told that we were rude and hostile (when you are trying not to cry) from the beginning of the call. Was also told that she didn't look for alternative options for us to rent since they don't have any options in our low budget. Literally never been made to feel like a smaller person in my life than within a few minutes of talking to Amanda on the phone today. 10/10 would not recommend renting through Hobbs

Perfect for retired couple like us. Would be cramped with any more than 2 people. It's right on beach with modern deck and shared gazebo. Unit was very clean. Modern kitchen. Pots and pans. Dishwasher. Microwave. A coffeemaker/ Keurig combo you can use either. HVAC worked great! Of course no washer/dryer there is just not enough room. And bathroom is small, too. But no issues with unit at all and we're picky! We would have appreciated an option to include sheets and towels. Bringing our own is a hassle. In years past they were included. But biggest issue is not including any paper products as in paper towels or toilet paper. That's ridiculous. For less than $15 you can stock unit with 12 rolls of quality TP and 3 rolls of quality paper towels. if we don't bring any, and arrive late in evening and don't have time to goto store first or don't bring them with us, we don't have any TP or paper products that night. Heck for $15 you can include a pack of napkins, too. We're spending $1,500+ on a 7 day rental - including TP, paper towels, and napkins isn't too much to ask.
