    Bar & Tap
    Nicole C.

This small town bar has a surprisingly large number of brews on tap. (I counted 20! But they don't have anything else-- BEER ONLY!) Don't be shy, ask the barkeep to try as many as you need before ordering yourself a tasty pint. There's plenty of seating both at the bar and at the tables, but I'm going to have to agree with Brent I. on coming on a full stomach; I don't know if I trust that George Foreman grill. On the other hand, you can always order a few sushi rolls from Toyama next door. Coasters will let you bring in outside food! My only regret is not getting here on a Wednesday night, when they have their Free Fill & Free Glass Special.

The only way to get in is on special occasions so inquire within or on the Sly Fox website. The staff were so wonderful and kind really catering to our every need. We started with Infused water and mimosas. The Raspberry mimosa was sweet and bubbly with the perfect amount of raspberry sorbet. The food was beautifully displayed in a buffet style. Such a great variety. Fresh fruit of all kinds, french toast, waffles and chicken, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage , scrabbled eggs, quiche, house potatoes, deviled eggs, and a charcuterie board . On the sweet side they had mini cinnamon rolls, danish, brownies, cookies and cupcakes with the galentine theme. They had chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries with pretty pink food grade glitter. Plenty to choose from and plenty to eat. We loved it. In order to get into the speakeasy it is tickets only. We are looking on their website for the special events. Can't wait to see what they do for another event style. This time is was a Galentine Brunch.

Access to the speakeasy is limited only through events held by the facility or booking private events. It's available for rental for company holiday parties, wedding receptions, engagement parties, birthdays, graduations, bridal showers, baby showers.. the opportunities seem endless! Who knows, maybe even a place to hold a small continuing education conference?? We attended the Galentine's Day brunch buffet. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time either in person or over the phone. It is a cozy, comfy space to dine and have drinks in a relaxed classy beautifully decorated establishment. The interior design emanates speakeasy. Every detail of design was carefully curated with the utmost intention. Staff was fantastic. Even though it was a brunch buffet, staff were attentive, friendly and frequently checked on all tables to address any needs or questions. The lovely staff were genuinely happy to take photos for us without any prompting. The flow of the buffet was perfect, and the food presentation was delightfully charming! There was a photo back drop available and the decor was so festive, and classy yet simple. The decor wasn't over the top , it was just the right amount of decorations to add pizzazz and celebrate with festive spirit. We all had a very enjoyable time celebrating Galentine's day! It was a wonderful event in an equally wonderful space. The music was on point, as well as the volume level. It was loud enough to enjoy the music, yet low enough that you could hold a conversation without screaming to hear each other. It was very peaceful and even if you don't choose a booth, the tables on the opposite side of the bar do provide some privacy due to the small partitions. The variety of food offered was just right (not overwhelmingly too many options and not too little options) and the food was tasty. It was an excellent first impression that left me excited to await what other fun events they will hold in the future.

They're located right next to one of our favorite spots Amirtha Curry. They're only open past 5pm. Let's see how things went When we walked inside, one of the staff asked if we had a reservation. Turns out the place is small with probably 11-12 tables in total. But luckily, a table was available and we were able to be seated. The decor inside was spotless and a bar is in the middle. The next time we dine in, I'll be sire to take photos when I get the chance. After looking over the menu for a few minutes, we decided to order a Denbigh pizza, one of their red sauce items. The toppings were pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. Since they were out of sausage, we chose ham as the substitute. Very good stuff. The pizza was cooked perfectly and there were plenty of toppings before our very eyes. We ended up taking half of the pie home where it was still delicious when warmed up. There you have it. We have both found a hidden gem in our neck of the woods. Yoi know we'll be back soon :)

Friends kept saying I just got unlucky and that I need to go back and try something else and they were absolutely right! My next trip I wanted something acidic and bright with a meat and veggie presence instead of the typical rice, beans, and a dab of some ground beef or chicken. Almost settled for something like that but then saw the Burrito Ranchito and it was INCREDIBLE. Pico, avocado, steak, and onions were exactly what I wanted that night and it came out just as delicious as I was expecting. Tried it a couple times since, including one trip where we all ordered the California Burrito partly because it was funny and partly because it was a great price for a standard Mexican grill plate. Despite getting it for budget and reliability, we all still really loved it.

We were seated right away and he brought us some water but those were the only things that were even remotely timely. It took 15 minutes for a server to come to our table. I asked if I could get the hash without peppers and her response was a chipper, "of course." 35 minutes later my "hash" arrived. It was two eggs over medium, as I requested, a ring of diced, fried sweet potatoes and some sliced smoked sausage. Not hash. Not even close. I got the server and told her my dilemma. She said, "I was told that you didn't want peppers." I told her that she heard right but what about the rest. She went to the kitchen and came back 5 minutes later with slightly cooked onions." She said that the peppers and onions are cooked together so if I don't get peppers I don't get onions. When I told her that I asked that very question, specifically No Peppers, she said, well, they're slammed back there. I couldn't help myself, it just popped out, "But the place is empty." She then blamed it on new people being trained. My husband's order was supposed to include eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, toast, creamy grits and a fruit cup. It came out...no fruit cup, no grits and the ham steak shown in the picture on the menu morphed into a couple slices of deli ham fit for a sandwich. The cranberry juice, about 12 ounces, was 4.99. We paid almost $60 dollars BEFORE THE TIP!! for so-so food, lackluster service and excuses. I paid $20 for eggs, sausage and fried sweet potatoes. It was definitely NOT hash and not worth the money. The ambience was ok. They advertise the beautiful views then put in regular height tables so all you can see is a fence and the very tops of boats that go by but only if they're tall boats. They should invest in a few pub height tables so the view includes the river not just the sky. Save your money. There are other restaurants in Elizabeth City that are much better.
