Stopped in tonight for our last dinner before heading home on Saturday. Walked in and found there was no air conditioning and it was very humid inside...first problem. We decided to stay because the food has always been good. Once we got our meals, the flies started to show up...second problem. Food was good but come on, no air conditioning when it's 90 plus degrees outside. Oh, the flies. There were a lot of them. Hopefully this was an isolated issue with the AC and the flies. read more

Had the Carolina bbq, fries, and Cole slaw. I liked that the bbq was served off the bun, which I wasn't going to eat anyway. It's a Carolina vinegar based bbq. It was mediocre. The fries, while hot, were flavorless. Cole slaw was "OK". Service was quick. But I won't rush back anytime soon. The beer? Excellent! read more

A cold beer and some delicious cheese curds hit the spot this afternoon after the ferry and then driving up from Hatteras. This was clean and the service was friendly, sitting in one of the tables overlooking the bar. I would have stayed longer and had a second beer but the air conditioning was just not keeping up with the heat wave. Time to move on to the next. Outer Banks Brewing Station is such a unique place and one of my favorite stops in Kill Devil Hills. The first thing you notice is the wind turbine towering over the building, and it's not just for show. This was the very first wind powered brewpub in the United States, and it still supplies a portion of their electricity today. It makes the place feel like more than just a restaurant and brewery, it's a piece of history and a real landmark. The beer is excellent with a good range of styles, and the food menu has both local seafood and Southern inspired dishes that pair really well with what they brew. The kids and I loved the hushpuppies. They have some Gluten Free menu items available and can do some substitutions to help make items more GF friendly (swapping out the beer cheese for example). The outdoor space is also a big plus. The backyard has picnic tables, games, and even a pirate ship play area for kids which makes it easy for families to enjoy themselves while parents relax with a drink. On some evenings they have live music which gives it a lively but still laid back feel. Between the wind powered story, the great food and drinks, and the family friendly atmosphere, this spot really stands out on the Outer Banks. read more

What a nice spot. I've never had crab bisque so I can't compare it to anything, but it was a 10/10! I absolutely loved it. My favorite thing today. Besides the wine- got a Chardonnay from New Zealand and it is probably the best wine I've ever had in my life. You can smell the goodness. Loved it. Got the burger and sweet potato fries. The BEAST burger was ok. It was good but nothing special. The hush puppies were so good. Love the music playing and the atmosphere OH MY ACTUAL GOD!!!! The carrot cake is the BEST carrot cake that has ever been born. My husband is a carrot cake connoisseur and he melted. The pralines are such an epic touch. Honestly our favorite bar to go to when we're down in OBX. ESPECIALLY if there's a DJ - we just know it's gonna be a good time. We recently hung out in their backyard area for live music and had a great time! They have plenty of seating and a mini bar outside. We've never tried their food but the drinks are normally pretty decent. I always get a lemon drop and they're pretty good but not very strong. It takes me about 4 to feel anything. The only complaint we have is that they advertise that they're open til midnight but sometimes when we go, there is just a bunch of tables and chairs with no music or anything. It's kind of a strange vibe unless you go on a night with a DJ. read more

This was my favorite restaurant for our recent trip to the Outer Banks. Loved that they had a couple Vegan options, yet could make us seafood lovers happy. Loved that they had Sonoma Cutrer for $10 a glass. (yes I know it is a brewery). Vegans were happy with their Tacos and Teriyaki Tofu. I loved the Scallops with risotto. Got the small portion which was three scallops. Not quite full, I added on a cup of the crab bisque, and that was so rich I couldn't finish it. (very delicious though). Such a fun outdoor area to eat at! Their beer garden area has a sand pit for corn hole, a pirate ship playground and a mini stage area for live music. There's tons of outdoor seats. We came on a Thursday for lunch and it was essentially empty outside besides us - Salmon Caesar salad: So fresh and refreshing! Quality gets less each year :( We stop because my crew loves the craft root beer. Today was the worst. Ac was not working, hot as hell inside, server gave a smart remark about it when I commented how hot it is. My son showed the server a pic from two years ago and he told us he knew what it was. The restaurant is so fun to eat at with a bar and live music on the stage. This was one of the places in the Outer Banks bar crawl, and when I went shortly after Christmas, they had karaoke and a grinch going around to take pictures and singing. The clam chowder is not very good and it's not creamy at all, but the hush puppies and fried fish are delicious. I definitely reccomend this place if you're visiting, it has such nice vibes. read more

Cannot say enough good things about this place! I am gluten free (not celiac but preference) and the gluten free menu is huge and was absolutely fantastic. We had a part of over 16 people and service was amazing keeping track of everyone, food came out altogether and everyone was happy with their choices. The bar menu is my favorite and we cannot wait to return! read more

We had such a great experience at outer banks brewing station! I've been coming to the OBX a few times a year and can't believe I've never been before. They gladly accommodated our large group, and Jacob was a phenomenal server! Not to mention the food was amazing! The gluten free options were generous which I appreciated. Personally loved the crab and shrimp dip with tortilla chips, and the beet salad with the grilled ahi. We also loved the live music (so talented whoever was playing on 2/7!) and overall vibes. Service and food were great! Only downside is that when we told the hostess we were there for trivia, even though we were with children, and they sat us in the bar. We were excited but then surprised when the bartender told us we'd have to leave because it was 21+. I understand the rules, but the hostesses should be aware of them. read more

The only positive thing I can about the place was it was on the main road! We were a table of 4 , the waitress seemed annoyed that people were there wanting to eat and she needed to wait on them. The place was 3/4 empty, so there was no rush. The appetizers came out quickly, but warm, not hot. We n got our food a little while later and all four of our meals were lukewarm or cold. I still enjoyed pints of their Hugh Hefeweizen and a Quakers Extra Stout. For food I just went with their standard Pub Burger and fries. Great service, great food, super fast for a group of 8! Delicious beer combined with delicious food is the perfect OBX destination! Thanks to Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for the great recommendation and the bevy was extensive. We shared Fried Jalapeño Cheese curds (delicious), chips with dip - black bean, beer cheese and salsa, and huge pretzel with queso. The kids loved the apps - so did the adults! A playground for the kids, live music, etc. The ordering set up out there is a counter where you order and pay and then they bring your food to you. Service and beers were tasty. I like that they always say no problem when you go there with a few people and they just find space for you. Ordered half pound of peel n eat shrimp and these were tasty, however after I bought a round of shots (wasn't told it was the high end tequila but that would've been cool), I saw that I was billed for a full pound of shrimp instead. Been here several times for breakfast/brunch after church. Our group of four has not been disappointed with any of the selections chosen, especially the wife who has celiac & was delighted with the gluten free options available as they are sometimes had to find on the coast, especially breakfast items.
