Instead, she wrote my credit card number on a piece of paper, which immediately raised concerns. I was later charged twice for the same order. I contacted the managers, who acknowledged the duplicate charge and agreed to refund the extra amount (about $60). Unfortunately, despite three follow-up phone calls, the refund was never processed. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable with the security of my credit card information and canceled my card to obtain a new number. Mistakes can happen, but the way this was handled left me disappointed. I hope the business improves both its payment security practices and its customer service to prevent this from happening to others.

But those are just basic dry facts and the history of Shortys is far from basic and dry. Most recently,Shortys survived yet another drenching by a hurricane. This one was one of the worst in Texas history. Somehow,this little wooden structure survived when cement ones down the street were totaled. Somehow,the person that owned the ground below Shortys decided not to renew the lease. Believe me when I say, it was controversial on the island, is an understatement. So,the owner did the right thing. Found another spot and moved the building there After months of closure,repair,add on etc. Shortys next life began. I mentioned that no one had done that for my family, and instead of apologizing or acknowledging it, they simply pointed toward the menus. I then asked if they had high chairs. While I was holding my baby, they pointed toward where the high chairs were rather than offering to help me get one. I had to carry the high chair myself while holding my baby. As I was walking out, the employee walking in front of me didn't even stop to hold the door open. Ordering our food was also frustrating. I had six drinks to carry and asked for a drink holder. The bartender responded, "Oh, well, you can come back for it." Not exactly the kind of customer service you expect when someone is already carrying drinks for a family with small children. The biggest issue, however, was the condition of the patio area. We were sitting in the back patio because my 4-year-old was enjoying the play area. While we were there, four large rats ran across the fence line. I have never experienced anything like that at a restaurant. On top of the rats, I personally saw around five large cockroaches running around the tables. Seeing multiple rats and cockroaches around an area where people are eating was extremely disturbing, especially with three young children with us. Overall, between the lack of basic customer service, the problems with our order, and the number of rats and cockroaches we witnessed, this was an experience we will not be repeating. I hope management takes these concerns seriously because the cleanliness and pest situation, in particular, needs immediate attention
