I contacted Coast Riders Powersports about a part/accessory and provided my VIN after being told they'd look it up. I never received a callback. When I followed up, I was told they don't carry it, and then it was implied it might be "somebody else," but I wasn't given the aftermarket company/vendor info to actually solve the problem. I understand not carrying a part -- that's fine -- but taking a VIN and then not following up, and not providing a clear referral, wasted my time. If you're going to collect info for a lookup, I'd expect either a return call or a direct lead on where to get it. Last October 14, 2024 I attempted to ride solo over 1000 miles in under 21 hours via the Nevada Desert and the Sonora Pass. Basically a fun, but serious challenge for which I prepared for by mounting new tires on my motorcycle the week before the attempt. I'm not from San Luis Obispo, but towards the end of epic my ride, I found myself stranded in Pismo Beach with a nail in my brand new rear tire after 900 miles of continuous riding over 19 hours. Yikes. At this point I was cold, wet and tired and it was 10 pm at night. I managed to limp the bike into Pismo Beach, Ca on the rear flat. I I decided to get a hotel room and sort out my problem in the morning. My rear tire was destroyed. The next morning, I found Coast Riders Powersports on the web and gave them a call to see if I could, possibly, buy a new tire and get it mounted quickly. They were great....and totally reassuring. The office manager understood my problem and my need to get my bike back on the road quickly to get home (and to get back to work!). The Coast Team had a tire in stock and gave me a great deal. They cleared their schedule and opened up a service rack to, really, a total stranger who was broken down on the road. I received the best service. So I had AAA load my bike and the AAA trailer and transported it 13 miles to the Coast Riders very nice Work Shop located in San Luis Obispo. Coast Riders took care of everything and had me back on the road in less than 4 hours after I first phoned them to ask for help. I've never had such poor customer service. There is a kid who works there who had the worst attitude ever. First he was not welcoming and once we got into payment I commented regarding the amount of time it took to complete my bikes which was a month! And then I said there was poor communication on their part as I had to call multiple times and get updates on my repair. he called me cheap for wanting to order a tire that was slightly cheaper tire than the original one because I was trying to save money. He said I was being ridiculous for even asking for a discount that it was the most absurd thing he had ever heard. Told me "he would knock of a few cents so I would get out of there and leave a happy camper." honestly I was confused as to why I was getting such an attitude. I said I'm not trying to make a big deal of this all I was asking is if I could get any type of discount for the time and lack of communication. He could of said no and I would have been on my way but he had to be a sarcastic child about it all. In the end he rolled out my bike set it outside and without saying good bye or thank you he walked away and started talking crap about me to one of his co workers in the back. I had one conversation about the estimated time of repair with a man named Gary on the phone. He was very understanding and apologetic about it. I was told my bike was extremely cold blooded and it just needed warming up. Like I'd never ridden the damn thing. Problem is that the mechanic doesn't ride the bike. I walked into Coastriders about 4 months ago and asked them if they worked on old bikes. They said, "Yes, we do." I went onto tell them that I've been looking for a place for years and that Honda will not work on anything over 10 years old. I have a 1982 Honda Gold Wing that I bought in 1985. I bought it to go on a 9,000 mile cross-country trip with some high school buddies. Since then I went on my honeymoon with my wife in 1988 and then on several other multi-thousand mile trips. The bike stalled around 2011 and ended up sitting in my garage for years. When I met Alex at Coastriders, I explained to him that I was in no hurry, to do everything he could think of to improve the performance and to go through everything. I told him not to worry about cost just to be fair and we'll go from there. Four months later, my bike has been resurrected from the dead! Seeing it after their work brought tears to my eyes. When I got it home and took it for a ride it was a true Zen experience, like my bike recognized me in the saddle once again and two friends had reunited. All I can say is that I would recommend anyone to Coastriders if you want to find a group of people that care about what they do and are as excited as you are to see that it all comes together. We were on our way to Solvang from Hurst Castle when we had a flat tire on my son's 2013 Heritage Softail Classic. It was Memorial day weekend. No one open for two days. That's when Brian pulled up on his Harley and asked if we needed help. He informed us he was a 30Plus year moto tech, and would be in the shop the next day from 9am to 4 pm. The next day, memorial day, everyone else is closed, we had the bike towed from pismo beach to coast riders powersports where Brian was there to meet us. Brian was so kind, and honest and only charged us an hours labor to remove the tire and wheel, and pressure wash the fix a flat goo, that didn't work very well, only a few miles. He replaced the inner tube and balanced tire and wheel, and reinstalled. Offered us cold water and sent us on our way. Even called later in the day to see if we arrived home safely. What a blessing to meet Brian, and owner Neal. Truly good people. I believe God sent me an angel. I highly recommend this shop, and these people. I needed a new tire. I came into the shop and some young guy was on the phone. I waited but he would not make eye contact. I waited for 15 minutes while he talked on the phone until an older gentleman from the back building came out. The older gentleman had some social skills and was polite, but my attitude had soured after being ignored for so long. I just didn't want to give them my business anymore. The young guy blew the first rule of customer service. Acknowledge your customer. Even if they have to wait, let them know they are important. If somebody is in back who can help, call them up front so your customer isn't waiting. Never ignore the customer. I'll go to somewhere else for my tires from now on. read more

On October 1, 2018, I took my 2007 Victory Hammer to CoastRiders Powersports because when I shifted into 1st gear it made a loud clunk noise. Initially I was going to take it to Fresno, CA to the Victory dealer there, when a friend suggested taking it to CoastRiders because they have excellent history and technicians that could easily handle the problem. When I picked up my bike and put it into 1st gear, I could not hear anything and it shifted very smoothly thru the gears. I will refer all of my friends who ride Victory's to CoastRiders. It really sucks when a business gives you a quote for tires, tubes, and labor and they charge you up front then when you go in to pick up the tires they charge you extra for labor and tubes. The first guy we talked to who charged us said the original price said that amount was with everything, out the door. My husband and I even double checked. Then when my husband goes to pick up the tires they charge an extra $80. Bad business of you ask me; they should honor the original price charged. We won't be using these guys again and will be telling our friends. read more

Have had my 05 KLR 650, and 2006 V-Strom 1000 worked on multiple times here. They always do an excellent job. From small jobs for $100 or less, to $3000+ dollar repair job that was the result of a crash (and they did all the back and forth with the insurance company for me). Always professional, good communication, very easy to talk to and deal with, and they will walk you through all the repairs and everything that they did step by step. Normally I always freak out when I take my car or motorcycle to a repair place, but its nice that I can have these guys work on it and just not worry that I am going to get screwed over, and I know they are going to do excellent work. Dropped off my front wheel on a Thurs to purchase a new tire and have it mounted. I got a call the following day that my tire was ready to be picked up. I had to remind the service tech that my wheel had been left to have the tire mounted. No problem, I was told it'd be done in about an hour. When I arrived to pick up the tire, I was told they were finishing up the mounting. Several minutes later they told me the wrong tire was ordered (got a rear, needed a front). They offered me two different tires that they had instead. The one I chose was about $30 more at no extra cost to me. If it wasn't for the nicer tire upgrade I would have left feeling much less happy. I thought picking up my wheel/tire would be a quick in and out, but ended up waiting about 15+ minutes. read more

I have been going to this shop for 10+ years. They are good and honest. The guys at the counter are great and have an amazing memory helping to know what service was done last on my bikes and suggesting what to look at on my bikes to keep them in tip top shape, and the mechanics are always available to discuss the inner workings of the bikes so I feel like I really know where my money is going. My bike has come back with problems only 2 different times in 10+ years and they have made it more than right both times by not only fixing the issues free of charge, but also doing things like replacing the worn out stock kickstand for free just to make sure I'm happy. The one thing to note is that sometimes a major service can take weeks. It's not unusual for my bike to be there for 3 weeks to a month if I need them to do something serious. But, for a simple service they sometimes get my bike back the very next day. Know that this is a very trust-worthy shop that really cares about their customers and will save you $$$ compared to a dealer. read more
