Not a Safe or Supportive Environment for Students of Color…read more As a student at Kennesaw State University, I strongly advise against living in an off-campus house in Acworth without thoroughly vetting your roommates. My experience with the Acworth Police Department was deeply concerning. Despite multiple police reports regarding serious conflicts, including incidents of domestic violence and retaliation from my roommates, I found the department to be dismissive, unresponsive, and unwilling to provide proper assistance. Rather than ensuring my safety, I was treated as a nuisance. Only a handful of officers treated me respectfully while most Officers displayed frustration instead of professionalism, and accurate documentation of incidents was not a priority. As a person of color, I did not feel protected or served by this department, and my concerns were not taken seriously. If you are a Black student or a person of color considering housing in Acworth, be aware that the level of police support you receive may not meet the standard of care you would expect. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this area as a safe or supportive environment for students dealing with difficult roommate situations. If you go down by the court house you will see some of these sheriff's clearly braking the law as…read morethey feel it dose not apply to them, I seen a sheriff park completely on the sidewalk for at least 10 mins while he went inside to get fans and put the in the back seat of his car (have it on video) left the sidewalk completely block the whole time with nobody out there directing people or traffic so if someone in a wheelchair or some kids were walking they would have to risk going into the road to get around the sheriff's car park in a sidewalk! Then all day long multiple sheriffs parked in the turn lane all day long the turn lane was big a turn lane but parking spot for sheriff's, I stop one leaving and asked him if I could park there he said no I asked why he could park there he claimed he was on official police business bring paperwork to court unfortunately I don't have the video when he walk in but I am pretty sure he had no paperwork in his hand, then the next guy parked there in his personal car in regular clothes and left it there for hours have all this on video as well. If the sheriff department feels that those should be parking spaces instead of a turn lane (as it was parking spots all day long could not be used as a turn lane all day they should take that up with the county not illegal park and believe they are above the law and don't have to follow it like the rest of us. Precinct 4 came out to our non emergency call. I dont feel they are taking this case seriously. They didnt take any fingerprints told us the ring was not traceable not even with pawn shops. Said the game system in the vehicle which was in a black box not in eyesite plus tinted windows with the new vehicle said without the serial number its also not traceable. Do any police officers do there jobs anymore? I had a hit and run a few months ago they said they would call me. Haven't heard from em to this day. They took my address and all my info that day and was oblivious to who I was like they cant even see it in their system if they even bothered to look. What a disgrace really.

The high school was built nearby in 1930 at urging of Ursula Jenkins. Professor M. J. Woods became principal of both schools in 1929 and led the high school until 1962. Lemon Street and Marietta High Schools merged in 1967 and the Lemon Street building was demolished. The Marker reads as the following This is the original locomotive made famous by its participation in the Andrews Raid of April 12, 1862. It was stolen by the Northern raiders who tried unsuccessfully to wreck the Confederate supply line between Atlanta, Ga., and Chattanooga, Tenn., and recovered by the Southern crew after an 86-mile chase that has been the subject of books and motion pictures. This incident, called the most dramatic episode of the Civil War, led to awards of the first Congressional Medals of Honor to the men who stole the General. The locomotive, built in 1855 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad, was restored by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad in 1961 to make a series of tours under its own power commemorating the Civil War Centennial.
