If you want a tour of the Station, you have to complete a Safety Education Program Request at least 30 days prior to your desired date. This is an emergency service station and do NOT allow birthday parties! They make fine neighbors. Quiet most of the time and are always racing to help anyone.

I really didn't know exactly what I expected to find so, I had no agenda but, to get a feel for the geography and maybe discern a reason they would head for Texas in the 1850s. Marietta is north of Atlant in Cobb county. I found a thriving metropolis surrounding verdant hills with huge trees. Looking closer I found traces of the old Marietta. Before General Sherman burned it in 1864 during the civil war. There are only two original buildings downtown left from that destruction. One is now the Marietta History Museum. I'll cover it in another review but, it is one of the best small museums I've ever visited. Visiting the Marietta City Cemetery gave me a feel for the Old. It's on a hill close to downtown and I could imagine from here, the coalescing of a small dusty town forming in the distance. In that town, my great-grandfather xs 3 became the 4th Sherriff in 1838. After spending a day exploring the area I didn't come away with anything you would consider "concrete". However, I do have the satisfaction of knowing they were here in the early days of pushing westward of our country. That's exciting to me. Especially in light of the fact that I'm sitting close to where they settled in Texas and I do know that history very well. My current day assessment of Marietta for those possibly interested in moving there. I found it to be a great little city that I myself would live in. It's got a special feeling that's hard to put in words. I talked to a lot of people and most are from somewhere else. Marietta is a great place to live,work,retire they said one after the other.

Maintenance on the firehouse has been deferred for years. There is termite damage to the staircase, there are holes in the ceiling, and water collects on the floor of the garage due to lack of a drain. The firemen of station 19 are collecting contributions for a restoration and renovation project via the station's website as well as with t-shirt and souvenir sales, and at open houses.

They require an appointment so I made one. My baby came on my appointment date so i reached out to reschedule and they were very nice about it. We arrived on appt day, signed in and filled out paperwork. The CPST was an older gentleman who also happened to be training someone so they checked, pointed out what needed to be fixed on our existing installation and we were good to go! It was a great experience overall and it helped set my mind at ease regarding the safety of my baby.

My son turned three yesterday and he's currently obsessed with fire trucks. We opted not to have a party because of Covid so we decided to take him to the fire museum so that he could see all the different types of fire trucks, Firemen's equipment and learn a little bit of history in the process. While the museum is small, it's packed with a lot of quality interesting historical fire trucks and memorabilia and my son absolutely loved it. It took us about an hour to see everything that's in there but I think that's a perfect amount of time for littles. I'd say it only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to see everything the museum has to offer if you're there with adults or older children. It's literally attached to the fire station. You can park across the street in the public parking lot that has hourly parking which only cost us two dollars. Entry is free and you definitely can't beat free 99! When we finished we walked next door to the attached fire station and the firemen gave my son a plastic fireman's hat which he loved and cherished. I would highly recommend this place.

That said, we actually had a great time. My grandson enjoyed pushing buttons and pointing at things. I'm not exactly sure what he was saying, but he smiled the whole time. Nobody else was in there when we arrived. As we were leaving, a couple of more families were arriving. The only thing that I would advise is that apparently, you are not supposed to allow your kids on the engines. We didn't see the sign until we took our photo opportunity. They might want to put a sign on both sides of the engines. Otherwise, a great time was had by all.
