Hot on the trail of my ancestors! I came to Marietta to sniff out traces of where my Great…read moreGrandfather Xs 3 settled and bor children in the 1830s. Yes, almost 200 years ago. I really didn't know exactly what I expected to find so, I had no agenda but, to get a feel for the geography and maybe discern a reason they would head for Texas in the 1850s. Marietta is north of Atlant in Cobb county. I found a thriving metropolis surrounding verdant hills with huge trees. Looking closer I found traces of the old Marietta. Before General Sherman burned it in 1864 during the civil war. There are only two original buildings downtown left from that destruction. One is now the Marietta History Museum. I'll cover it in another review but, it is one of the best small museums I've ever visited. Visiting the Marietta City Cemetery gave me a feel for the Old. It's on a hill close to downtown and I could imagine from here, the coalescing of a small dusty town forming in the distance. In that town, my great-grandfather xs 3 became the 4th Sherriff in 1838. After spending a day exploring the area I didn't come away with anything you would consider "concrete". However, I do have the satisfaction of knowing they were here in the early days of pushing westward of our country. That's exciting to me. Especially in light of the fact that I'm sitting close to where they settled in Texas and I do know that history very well. My current day assessment of Marietta for those possibly interested in moving there. I found it to be a great little city that I myself would live in. It's got a special feeling that's hard to put in words. I talked to a lot of people and most are from somewhere else. Marietta is a great place to live, work, retire they said one after the other.

The downtown area has historic Paces House for events, Old Vinings Inn, fire station, library and Orient Express (railcar resto) and Vinings Jubilee shopping center. Farther out, there's Canoe and Crispena restaurants that I enjoy. Traffic can be rough on week days as the main road is a 2 lane Paces Ferry (get it?) and there's a CSX rail crossing. On weekends, though it's nice to walk around the Jubilee, pick up new balsamic vinegars or EVOOs at Oli & Ve, grab a cup of coffee from Read Shop or people watch at one of many restos.

The trail was calm and not too busy, but there were still enough people around to feel comfortable/safe without feeling crowded. It's perfect for families out for a stroll or a casual bike ride, and also great for runners and more experienced cyclists. Fall seems like one of the best times to visit. The tall trees lining the trail were beautiful, creating a really serene atmosphere. I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy some quiet time outdoors. Being outside and taking in the beauty of it all was motivation enough to keep walking, and we ended up walking for a little over 4 miles. Response to our multi-dwelling buildings has only gotten worse. FPS was hired by our management company to monitor and maintain our fire sprinkler/fire suppression system and its equipment. After spending more than $30,000 in equipment replacements in the last year, they still cannot find the source of an ongoing problem and their after hours "emergency" monitoring is a joke, even when their system is malfunctioning and endangering lives. Residents have to call the fire department and other essential personnel to arrive on scene and mitigate the damage caused by this system as the 24-hour "emergency" staffing sounds like a college kid who has no idea what you are saying and sounds like you just woke them up when you call it as the fire suppression equipment floods the entire garage (true story). When a power surge from a storm in Atlanta damaged some of the electrical monitoring boxes in October of 2020, it took weeks for FPS (5 different techs sent out with 5 different answers) to respond and replace the boxes. Daily these boxes will set off an alarm, which should trigger the 24/7 fire monitoring company - also FPS - to call our management with a notification that they are seeing an alarm. The management company hasn't had a phone call from the fire monitoring service in over a YEAR and the box in one building beeps very loudly several times a day before frustrated residents silence it. The CEO and management and every technician working at FPS is aware that our issue is not resolved, yet they sent another bill for $2900 even after their tech told us that the equipment for that invoice wasn't needed and wasn't installed ("No need for you to spend money on items you don't need" was a direct quote). Then that tech changed his story a week later after his CEO snuck on our property without our knowledge or authorization and "checked some things" and claimed to have fixed the problem. Rather than call and explain the situation, the CEO had the tech call and change his story. The tech was right because it didn't fix the issue, but now we have $2900 in items we don't need. The problem goes on and the CEO and every "Customer Service Manager" at FPS is aware of our problem but refuse to answer our management company's emails or respond to their phone calls. Our next step will be litigation after termination. Do not hire this company. Fire Protection Services is being reported to the BBB for fraudulent practices and inflating invoices, as well as poor customer service. One star because while their techs have no idea what they are doing (there is one guy who seems to know - the one who suggested we not pay for items we didn't need), they at least show up on time. When they show up.

An ode to the Breakfast Tasting ($19), which each of us got. It came with your choice of pancake, waffle, or french toast, so we got to try them all. We got 2 of the pancakes and that was the move because the pancakes were the best out of the 3. Note that the pancakes aren't your typical fluffy and sweet pancakes. They were crispy and definitely not as sweet, but add the syrup and homemade jam and they were *~*chef's kiss*~*. The Breakfast Tasting was literally everything I've ever wanted in a brunch at a restaurant. I always want to sample a bit of everything, but I usually have to be strategic about ordering with a group of people, where everyone gets something different and then we get to taste each other's. We didn't have to do that at Season! Literally everything on the tasting plate was incredible--eggs (we all added cheese), bacon, sausage (a patty, not a link, which I liked!), biscuit, grits (we all added cheese), colcannon fritter, avocado, fruit, yogurt with granola. So much food, we all had leftovers. I also got the Iced Chai Latte ($6) and it was soo good. The spiced caramel cold foam?! OMG, amazing. I cannot wait to be back and try more, but it'll be really hard to not order the Breakfast Tasting.
