    Broken sandal
    Lauren W.

My Chanel dad sandals needed to be repaired after the straps ripped from the sole. Chanel was no help at all -- the SA said the shoe couldn't be fixed, and that I could have them shipped in to corporate to confirm -- a process that would take months. Needless to say, I am done with them. Enter Pete. He fixed the broken shoe and resoled the pair in 2 weeks. They are like new. I am never going to another cobbler. Before and after below.

I bought a vintage Louis Vuitton messenger bag at a flea market in Spain that needed a lot of TLC. I took it to an LV store to ask about repairs, and they wanted over $4k to repair it when the bag itself cost no more than $2k during its prime (it's an older full size Bastille messenger bag from the early 2000's). I took it to Cobbler's Bench instead to get it fixed, and they did a fantastic job restoring it! They charged me about half of what LV wanted, but it was well worth it. It's like a brand new bag! I only wish I had taken before and after photos. They were very prompt too with the repair. I was expecting it to take about three months and they did it in about six weeks. I can't speak highly enough of this business, and would definitely recommend!

This place is phenomenal! Worth the trip 100%. They take great care and have a very high-level with expertise. The prices of far more reasonable than Their product could demand. I used to go to another highly respected shop in town, but these guys have them beat by mile!

    Re-soled Sperry Boat Shoes

Pete completed two jobs for me within a two week period. He added snaps/fasteners to a leather jacket to give the sleeves a more fitted look. He also re-soled a pair of Sperry Boat Shoes. I was very pleased with the craftsmanship as well as the customer service. I received an email when the jobs were completed and ready for pickup, which I found very helpful. Pete's shop is in the lower level of an office building on Connecticut Avenue, so when you enter through the lobby, you can take the escalator down one level.

Fixed the heels and bottoms. Such attention to detail!

Pete is fantastic! He has such care and attention to details. He is an expert and really takes the time to do it right. I'm so grateful for the work he did on these shoes. I was going to donate them and then he fixed them and I cannot be happier. These are a work of art. Thank you! I highly recommend this shop because I moved and he even mailed my shoes to me. He really cares and does the best work I have seen.

I have been procrastinating on get my rain boots fixed and when the threat of bad weather was approaching I immediately took advantage of finding a shoe repair store in my area. The threading was coming loose on the left shoe and since it was such a good shoe that I had for over a year, why not get it fixed instead of purchasing brand new shoes. After reading the reviews, I rushed right over. Upon arrival, the gentleman was super friendly, informative, handsome, and had a great smile. Very professional and a calm demeanor. I came in Thursday afternoon and it was ready by 10am the next day!!! WOW! And very cost effective, I thought, for a downtown location. Thanks so much for your awesome service. I will return if I ever need more shoe repaired! :)

Not only was the woman behind the counter so friendly and polite, she was helpful. A few days later, she showed me the dress, and it looked fixed. When I arrived home to try it on, I could tell she did wonders. While the price I paid in the end was not the one she initially quoted, I was ok with paying slightly more as it involved fixing the hem and pleats of the bottom half of a dress as well as potentially adjusting the side seams where the pockets were. Additionally, she did caveat that she might not be able to fix the dress so I appreciated her upfront-ness. And so for the last two months, I have trekked to Farragut Square, greeting the folks behind the front desk and walking into the quaint space that is Barr Cleaners where the woman greets me by name and asks when I need my items. She is always flexible and can turn the items around within a day or two, if it's not a lot. Most of the times, I tell her she can take her time, and even still, it's only a couple of days, and I'm ok with that. The most recent dress I brought in clearly showed wear, and when I asked if she could take care of it, she smiled and said in her cute way, "No problem." Prices are a little pricey, but the service is worth it in my opinion.

July 9, 2026 I hate leaving bad reviews so much that I…read moreactually go back and delete them at later dates to not jeopardize anyone's livelihood or reputation, but this one will, hopefully, be immortalized. The first thing you need to know is that this establishment does not have a standardized list of services or prices anywhere online or in their shop. I first went to them on June 22 to have five dresses dry cleaned (quoted $79.45), one blazer dry cleaned and shortened (quoted $52.95), and one dress' zipper repaired as well as have it dry cleaned (quoted $52.99 or $29.99 depending on if the existing zipper was salvageable or needed to be replaced). The prices seemed a bit steep to me, so I told the woman at the desk, Eden, that I would shop around for a cleaner and maybe return. I decided that paying for convenience was worth it and returned on July 8 due to Barr's close proximity to my workplace. This time, I dropped off two dresses for dry cleaning/stain removal (paid $29.98), one dress to just have the zipper repaired (paid $28), and two blazers to just have shortened (paid $50 each). When I got to work, I realized that I was paying almost the exact same amount to simply have a blazer altered that I was quoted for an alteration AND dry cleaning a couple of weeks ago. I called to inquire about this and was given the runaround. A man who I suppose is the manager initially said that he did not know why the pricing was what it was then told me that it was perhaps due to some promotion going on. I asked how much the promotion was to result in the pricing nearly being equivalent, and he said 10% which still doesn't make sense. I told him so, then, presumably due to being tired of speaking with me, he told me that I could come pick up my items and receive a refund which worked perfectly fine with me. While picking up my items, Eden told me that the refund had to be processed through an accountant and that the man I spoke to before was not in at the moment to discuss things further. After getting in contact with him, he told me that the refund had been initiated and to text them my email address to receive proof of this via email. As of the afternoon of July 9, I have still not received an actual refund, confirmation of a refund, or any specific timeline for the processing of my refund. I called Barr this morning after they ignored my texts and got an AI assistant for the first time since trying to resolve this matter, so it seems I'll just be disputing these charges with my bank. These business practices are egregious, and I can only imagine how many others have been charged on a whim but did not realize and thus could not rectify matters. I cannot recommend Barr Cleaners any less. UPDATE (July 10, 2026): Barr Cleaners said they issued a refund this morning and requested my email to send me a refund receipt. I will update this review a final time when I receive the receipt. UPDATE (July 10, 2026): I received confirmation of a refund via email this afternoon. I'm glad to have this matter finally resolved, but my original rating still stands.

I took a pair of boots on 10/9 to Leon that needed repair after my dog got to them. He came highly recommended from a trusted friend. He required payment up front, which usually I won't do as a first-time customer, but made an exception since he seemed like a good guy and my friend had excellent work done here. He promised an estimate within a few days. I waited a week before getting in touch by text, and got a very hostile response. We later talked on the phone and apparently he thought I was trying to scam him because his information has been "hacked", even though we'd already communicated in the same text thread. We cleared the air and he apologized for the misunderstanding. He got me an estimate 5 days later (for those keeping track it's now 10/21), and I went to the store immediately to pay. He took my money and promised they'd be done by the end of the month. He's just one guy, after all! Can't fault him for taking his time, especially if the work is good. I got in touch on 10/31 and he said he needed another week. I got in touch a week later and he says he's still not done, but says I can come by the store at 8pm that night to pick up. This doesn't work with my schedule, which is fine. That's on me. So today, 11/8, rolls around and I ask about when I can pick up. He texts to "come by 3pm", which means "come before 3pm". A typo, i realize in retrospect, and so when I showed up at 1:30 expecting him to be there I was surprised that the shop as closed. I called and was met with a stream of profanity about how he had told me to come AT 3pm. We bickered for a bit, I'm frustrated, and so I come at 3 to find him just starting the work on my boots. The resulting work is really bad. The patch leather is cut poorly and messily, the thread isn't properly sewn in, and there is glue all around the perimeter of the patch on the boots themselves. A cherry on top: when I was trying to leave the store, which is quite cluttered and small, I tripped over some detritus, and he laughed at me and then texted me "up yours" as I was getting to my car.

I really appreciate that they didn't waste more than five minutes of my time. I didn't feel like they wanted any of my business though.
