I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new tailor. I took a nice dress to have the button reattached with the button. When I came to pick it up, he lost the button I brought to be reattached, and moved a button from the top of the dress to the middle of the dress where the original button came off, without telling me. I didn't notice until I got home. So, I paid full price to essentially lose a button, that the original dress seller (Tuckernuck) no longer sells or has replacements for. I would have much rather the associate tell me he could not or simply did not have the skills to remove the black smudges on the inner lining of the jacket but to instead add these crazy stains to the jacket is beyond frustrating. Shocked by how terrible our alterations turned out. The stitches were very sloppy and looked like someone did it in 10 minutes. The dress straps I had altered were completely uneven. They did not blind stitch my husbands pants and used a contrasting thread on the hem. Looks awful. Cannot believe the business thought it appropriate to charge us for alternations that were this bad. I wish we had been told that they did not have the technical skills to complete our alterations -- instead we now have to spend even more money to get these items fixed. This dry cleaner can do just about anything. In addition to dry cleaning, it provides keys, notary public, and sewing. I took a black wrap full of moth holes, and they sewed about 50 of them closed so that the wrap is still usable. Bobby knows most of his customers by name. It's a neighborhood instutution. read more

I haven't used their dry cleaner services, but after the shoe debacle, I will certainly never return here. I had a similar situation to Kate N.'s below which just reinforces the fact that these people are incompetent and do not care about customer satisfaction. I took in 2 pairs of boots for what I thought would be simple heel replacements. After paying $36 and waiting a week, I went back to pick them up and what I saw was nothing but sloppy, second-rate work. I took one pair home, even though I was dissatisfied with the new ugly heel (not to mention the suede now has a black stain on it). I decided to leave the second pair there another day as I was promised the new choppy-looking heel would get smoothed out. That certainly did not happen. When I went in the next day, nothing had changed. I pointed to the wobbly, uneven heel and explained to them I was obviously unsatisfied they had ruined my shoes. After arguing with me for several minutes, the guy at the front desk offered me a 'free shoe repair coupon', as though I would actually step foot in this place again. Eventually I demanded my money back for the pair at which point the desk guy practically snatched the boots from me, took them to the cobbler in the back and yanked out the replaced heel. I found this to be malicious and unnecessary since my boots were already unwearable. To top it off, the angry old man cobbler came out from the back, proceeded to argue with me and tell me he's been doing this for 60 years, insinuating I was an idiot who knew nothing about shoe repair. They are in the service industry, getting defensive and bullying customers in front of other customers is extremely unprofessional. Obviously these people don't care. We have been going here on and off because we can't find a good dry-cleaner in Cleveland Park. I've never had bad experiences with dry-cleaning until I moved to Cleveland Park. We tried the organic place for a little while and the shirts came back with stains on them from a dirty shirt press I think. I just took shoes here for the second time. The first time I just needed a new rubber piece on the heel of a shoe. This time I brought books in that needed a new rubber heel. The sole of the shoe has 1-2 inches grooves where it was melted, which you can't see and I guess won't affect the integrity of the shoe. They also dyed the heel itself a different color than it was before. The shoes were grey, green and black and now there is a brown heel on my shoe and the color isn't even in places. Really frustrated that I can't trust to get my stuff back in good condition. When I asked the guy working what the deal was, he seemed irritated that I had a complaint (he said he wasn't the one that did the repair). No apology, no explanation to the botched job. He did offer to take them back and "ask about it," but that's it. read more

Woodley resident, they lost a $500 leather jacket and offered me no refund - unless I were to complete an 8 page insurance claim, which didn't make much sense to me or my attorney. This is my very first negative review on yelp; however, that is how strongly I feel about this place. I used them a few times with mediocre results but kept going back for the convenience. I recently got a bunch of items back with issues. Stains that should have been easy to remove where still there, a silk top that had been fine but needed pressing came back with oil like marks, and a sweater was totally ruined. I only took the sweater back to point out that is was worse than when I took it in. I understand mistakes and poor quality can happen from time to time but there is no excuse for rude customer service. The guy told me he remembered my black sweater (out of how many he must see a week? yeah right!) and that he had made a note on my ticket about it coming in damaged. To his surprise I pulled the ticket out of purse and showed that there was no note. He then replied that this was not the same ticket for the sweater. I am 100% sure that it was because when I got the sweater back I put them together and the other items I mentioned above were on the same ticket. I was able to prove to him that this was the same ticket. He just kept telling me that it had come in that way and just shrugged and stared at me. After we reached an impasse where he just stared at me without apology or attempt to make amends I left by telling him I won't be taking anything back there. He just shrugged. My fiancée had a HORRIBLE experience with a gentleman there when trying to get an affidavit notarized so she could have her wedding dress shipped to her from New York. She went to Cleveland Park Valet and was treated extremely poorly by the notary who told her he could not notarize her affidavit because her middle name (which is what she goes by instead of her first) is used on the affidavit. Mind you, her first, MIDDLE and last are clearly on her drivers license. He was rude and EXTREMELY condescending. We live in the neighborhood and will tell anyone with ears to NOT go to Cleveland Park Valet. Never. Again. read more

This is my first one-star review on Yelp, and if I can, I would have given them zero stars. I live just across the street and was happy to learn that there is a dry cleaner just across the road. The first time, I brought in my winter jacket and asked if the buttons can be sewn to tighten as they were getting loose. The guy at the counter said yes, and gave me a ticket and told me to pick it up the following week on a Thursday. I did so but thought I'd give them an extra day, so I picked it up on a Friday morning. The guy looked at me blankly and said it was not done, and to come back in a few days, and no apologies. I went back the following week, and again, no apologies, and I paid 3 bucks per button (there were 8 buttons!). The workmanship was so poor, I had to send it to another dry cleaner just down the row the following month who eventually did a great job. Fast forward a couple of months, I had an emergency boot repair (the sole of one needed to be repaired) to get done, and they were the only ones around the Cleveland Park area so I went in. The same guy, completely unhelpful and said that it was a big job and he won't be able to do it. I went to Dupont and got it done in under an hour. The customer service here is appalling, I don't understand why he has to be so rude and condescending. Do yourself a favour and just spend your money elsewhere. read more

I first discovered Cleveland Park Valet while living behind the Uptown Theater over ten years ago. After a horrible experience at Uptown 1 Hour Cleaners, I walked down the street only to be greeted by a warm smile and a promise to fix my turn shirt for free... if I considered switching my business (no brainer!). Like any respectable DC resident, I have moved five times since that first visit, but I keep coming back... I have recommended Cleveland Park Valet to anyone in search of a family dry cleaner who treats you like a human being, goes the extra mile, and treats your clothes like they are their own. I don't buy clothing that needs dry cleaning anymore. My review's based on attempts to get notary public service from the manager or owner, I assume. Twice I've walked there to receive this service. The first attempt was unsuccessful; he explained what I'd done wrong and I was upset but understood. I was upset at myself and made clear I wasn't angry with him. He stated he could get a witness from next door, from one of a few people he knew who worked beside him. This was in response to me explaining I didn't have anyone to be a witness. So today I enter the store again to fill out the form in front of him for notary services. His manner towards me is cold and unfriendly. He asked where my witness was. I mentioned him saying the first time he could ask someone to witness. Apparently he didn't say that. He said he wasn't allowed to find a witness for me to which I replied I must've misunderstood. He absolutely did say that but though I was friendly and kept it light and, "Oh well, I'll try again when I can get a witness," he again treated me coldly. I put away my papers and said, "Take care of yourself!" before opening the door to leave. He'd turned away with a terse, "Bye." I believe this was first negative experience I've had with a Cleveland Park merchant since moving here. I was nothing but kind, assuring him the first time I wasn't upset with him as he explained the rules of a notary public. The second visit, just a half hour ago, except for saying I must've misunderstood what he'd said about getting a witness (and not in an unfriendly manner) I kept it friendly and light. When I asked if they had a Notary on site and he replied, "me" like I was idiot for not knowing who it was. Didn't greet another customer who walked in for about 3 minutes until he finally said hello and her name with a tone that screamed "ugh I hate everybody". Courtesy of the Cleveland Park Valet, my brand new $400 suit now has 3/4 length sleeves. And I wasn't trying to make such a fashion statement... Oh, and they lost the buttons for the sleeves, too, and when I asked them where they were, they replaced them with cheap plastic buttons they purchased at CVS (and swore up and down that these were the "found" buttons even though they obviously didn't match any of the buttons on the rest of the suit.) The customer service at CPV is amazing! This location is not close to my home, but I am happy to make the trip past 3 other dry cleaners to get here. Some of the amazing things they do: 1. Get tough stains out. If it doesnt work the first time they will try again no charge. No complaints on the cleaning front. 2. When one of us has our baby in the car they are happy to bring our clothes out to the car so we dont have to unbuckle him in and out with a awkward load of clothes in our hands. 3. Occasionally I will have some cash in my pockets that ends up in the laundry. It is always stapled to the outside of the packages when we pick up. Same for collar stays that get left in shirts. 4. I lost a cufflink over a year ago. Searched the house high and low. Figured I would take a shot and ask CPV if they had seen it. 5 minutes of searching their desk and the cufflink returned! 5. When our dog comes on pick ups there is always a treat or two for him This is a great family run business and they really take care of their customers.
