I recently brought in a few pair of older Clarks. They are my favorite comfortable work dress shoes, but they had reached a point where they weren't quite right for business anymore. However, they still had plenty of life left in them. I took them to Golden Shoe for a full shine and restoration, and the results are fantastic. Sent in for repair on Tuesday, November 19. First required inspecting to see if shoes were repairable. Was given a blue receipt promising a finished repair by the following Friday, November 22. On date of collection, upon presenting the blue receipt, owner returned repaired shoes with polish. Total cost was $20. Card was accepted. Very happy with the service. Have been looking for a great repair shop in the area and looks like I'm still searching bc I got handed back shoes w/the material literally falling off. There was nothing falling off the shoes beforehand. They didn't need strong chemicals, just a bit of wiping down and the heel repaired. Now I can't even wear them. If he couldn't restore them, he could've just said that instead of wasting my time and money. Instead he destroyed one of my fave pairs of shoes, charged me full price, and claimed he "did his best." I have three pairs of leather dress shoes that lack traction and were prone to slip on smooth surfaces. The owner attached rubber soles to them, which greatly improved their traction. The owner was very professional and delivered good quality work on time. I've never had rubber soles attached to my shoes before, but given the added traction and hence safety, I thought the price was reasonable. All my shoes were returned with a new shine! I do not like taps, so I asked for a simar layer on my heel that would be applied on the half sole front. He did a fantastic job. My shoes were there for 6 days and he charged $45 for the work. I've been going to him for over a decade now, and even after moving out of state, I gladly pay shipping costs to have him repair my shoes. When you wear your boots so much that they start to experience some wear and tear, you're faced with two options: 1) Throwing away the shoes and buying new ones or getting the shoes repaired. I opted for the latter option after noticing that the heels on two of my favorite boots were in need of some TLC. A zipper on one of the boots also needed to be replaced and both shoes needed to be polished and shined. I visited a couple of shoe repair shops to do a cost comparison. The first shop quoted me a price three times as much as I normally pay and the gentleman at the second shop I visited said that he could fix the heels but he didn't fix zippers or polish shoes. I took an almost brand new pair of Olukai leather sneakers ($160) to be cleaned. There were about 7 smudges on the top. Got them back and the leather on the upper toebox is completely faded and a very poor version of what it once was. You can see the stark difference between the original coloring (shiny and dark) and what they did (yellowed and coarse). Extremely disappointed with the quality of work. I would not recommend going here to get any of your leather shoes cleaned or treated. read more

I had to get the heels of my shoes replaced because I spend all summer walking these DC streets in them and the price was fair and the quality of the work was amazing, the shoes looked like new and are perfect. Picked up my girlfriend's boots from here, which she had re-heeled and it cost $13. It looks like he did a pretty good job, not sure how long it will last though, since reading some of the other reviews it says it only last a few months... I also had him put in taps for me. He does that right away for you, so that's nice. Also it was only $7, and he did not need any instruction and put them in the correct place. I noticed that the front nail on the left shoe went through the sole. I went back and told him and he fixed it right away. It took me longer to change than it did for him to fix it.
