It was the last hotel on my list, having been born and raised in Emporium, and I knew it's reputation. But, I needed to get to Emporium. I had a family member that was in final stages of life. So I did it. What I walked into was a hotel room that looked like it was part of a Hollywood scene for an ax murder screenplay. There was black mold on the inside of the windows, Rust in the bathroom on the floor by the toilet.... Rust inside the shower. And the bed. Oh the bed. I checked out a day early because I could no longer stomach the bed. The bed smelled like someone had puked all over it. When I checked out and told Amanda about this, she told me under no uncertain terms that I would not be getting a refund for the day I checked out. It's in the print she said. Now if you look at the print, even with reading glasses, you can't read it. It is so small you would need a high density magnifying glass to read it. There is no check in or check out times listed anywhere for this hotel. there is no coffee anywhere in this hotel. They do offer a refrigerator in a microwave. And beds that apparently smell like puke. I can honestly tell you that because it was the only hotel I could get at that point, I didn't want to complain. I was only in that room to pause and sleep while my family member was transitioning between life and death. This is a heavy subject for me and not one I normally would ever share online. But the way Amanda treated me was heinous. This whole family does not care about their hotel. Or their guests. They should not be in a business that faces people. So I may as well spill the beans. there are supposed to be an extra lock on the door that protects people. It's the little safety lock on the door that is supposed to give a person extra protection. Half of it was broken off. I really didn't feel safe, but my only option was to have stayed in St. Mary's, which was 20 miles away. Here's my recommendation. If you have time to plan a trip to Emporium, stay at a bed-and-breakfast if you can. There are some that are around town, and some that are outside of town. Please do not stay at the Buttonwood Inn. It's not safe, it's not health safe, and I don't know how the health department does not shut this entire place down. And by the way, this is all in my humble opinion. :-)

The rooms are as pictured, they are spacious and accessible. I would have given 5 stars, but for 2 reasons: 1. The bed was very firm. I do feel like most hotel beds are, but for an "award winning hotel" I was interested to see if the room were different, and they were not much different than any other comfort inn. 2. "Breakfast buffet": Again with this being an "award winning hotel" I was excited for a breakfast buffet that would be as good as the adjoining restaurant food we had the night prior. However, it was pretty standard and very small. They have 2 waffle irons( which most hotels have), they had the smallest platter of hot food I have seen. It was 1 dish with 3 sections. Powdered eggs with a garnish, red potatoes ( they were good though!), and very small thin slices of ham that was sitting in water. This dish that held the food was so small, only 1 person at a time could go up to it. You move down the line to a selection of cereals. A microwave to microwave instant oatmeal, a fridge with hard boiled eggs, milk choices, etc. coffee is from a machine. The breakfast area seating needs to be update as well. The chairs were very worn and for a family of four we had these 4 big chairs at a small table. If I was coming through the area and needed to stay here again, I would, but because of the breakfast and bed- I wouldn't go out of my way just to stay at this hotel, unfortunately.

A beautiful, comfortable B&B (it's an actual bed and breakfast) in a beautiful setting. First: Sandy and Dave were So welcoming. They made a big breakfast every morning. They were great company when I wanted company, they left me room when I wanted some quiet, they had directions and suggestions, it was like staying with family (if you like your family, that is). The house: a big, historic country home. CLEAN. Beautiful screened porch, super-comfortable sitting rooms, and the bedrooms are each themed -- it's a fun place. Mine (the Barn room) nailed the 3 c's of a good room: clean, comfortable and quiet. The setting: surrounded by the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. Quiet. Walking trails and a stream right next to the property. Lots of wildlife. Half hour from Cherry Springs State Park -- it's a dark sky park (Google it, it's a national treasure, super family-friendly, and free. If it's not on your bucket list, stop what you're doing and write it down at once. I'll wait...) There's plenty of fishing nearby -- like, a 5-minute walk. (Which reminds me, they have fishing flies for sale, for every time of year and every local fish.) Good hunting all around too. Drive up to the top of the mountain (ask Dave, the directions are easy) and spend a few hours hearing nothing but the wind in the trees, birds and cicadas. There are small towns nearby for dinner, convenience stores, gas stations etc. There are other points of interest around but the park, the scenery and the quiet are plenty of reason to visit. Great place for a few peaceful days, great place for a romantic getaway. Great place. I'll be back. Bonus tip: the cell service in the area is not 100%, which is a great excuse for ignoring the phone and focusing on your relaxation. No complaints there, steak was cooked to my specification and the added peppers and onions were tasty, mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious, veggies were great too. My family and I had a trip planned for this weekend. We arrived Wednesday evening after hours. We…read moreproceeded to our assigned camp site and the neighboring campsites had pop ups, picnic tables and chairs in our site. We reached out to the 24 hour number we were provided and were advised that nobody was onsite but to ask the people to move. We ended up on a FaceTime call with the manager who after a while told us to move to a different site that was severely un level and muddy. When we couldn't make that site work because it was only 30 amp and too small for our fifth wheel. We were told to move to yet a different site and we would figure it out in the morning. The next morning we were texted and told that we needed to move back to the original site. My wife walked over and all of the items were still in our site. The campground instructed us to tell the people to move. All though that shouldn't be our responsibility to do we did. The people said they would but instead left. After all of the issues we divided to leave. Nobody seemed to care at this point so we moved to a different campground. It was quite an experience. I would absolutely not recommend this place which is a shame because a year ago we had a great experience here. We were informed that the owners were a corporation and it truly shows. Campers paradise is an ironic name as there is nothing paradise about this place.
