"I worked at Coca Nails Upscale Salon for several months, and while the owner has her generous moments, her management style made the experience challenging. Her priorities often come before her employees', which lead too payment errors that were met with frustration on her behalf when addressed. ‼Despite hiring nail techs who specialize in acrylic, she doesn't offer acrylic services, which creates financial strain. Employees must buy their own supplies and receive only 50% of service fees, even when bringing in clients, upon asking to see if you got your compensation of 70/40 or whatever it is she compensates when bringing your own clientele that will be an issue because she will feel like you're taking her as an un integral person and low client volume means some shifts have no clients at all.‼. PSA A WAIVER Will be signed some of the issues that came up had nothing to do with the waiver at all, which goes against the grain of business at hand!! The salon environment can be stifling for nail techs looking to grow, especially with the owner's unsolicited advice and strong opinions about services like acrylic removal. Between being accused of lying about the time I booked my appointment and the owner arguing with me over the phone about why she cannot offer a refund for a mistake her employee made, I am thoroughly done with Cocanails. I never even had the chance to step foot in the salon. I assumed reviewers were being hypercritical of Ms. Tamara because she is a Black business owner, but I see they were extremely correct about her bedside manner. read more

I love cocanails! I've been looking for a locally owned nail salon forever now, and this place definitely hit the nail on the head. What to know before you go.... -parking: tons of it, lots of it. and if you catch yourself waiting on traffic (basically all the time living in metro ATL) there's plenty of noms around. -appointments: required, but they are pretty great with short notice! -pricing: slightly more expensive, compared to other salons in the area. But due to the fact that its locally owned, I'm personally okay with that, because they do AWESOME work. -ambiance: clean and open, quiet too. No phone usage without headphones, which I really like. I just got my nails done and it started coming out already. Gel pedicure is very costly. I paid like 79$+ tip. Girl who did my pedicure was not in good mood. I told her Be gentle with my foot as I have pain but she is like I won't touch that toe and if you don't let me touch it I cannot do anything on it. Quality of nail paint is not that good and that too gel one. Please improvise. Also we are not allowed to talk on phone or use phone much which I saw this first time in any mani/pedi place. People were told to wash hands twice which is ok. But there was loud music going on.. my pedicure tub was not working and I was sitting in tub with water got cold for 15 minutes atleast. The jazz music was nice and soothing and the salon was clean. My feet massage was really nice thanks Radheedah! The signature drink was bolm too but very little. The milk and honey is advertised for both feet and hands but my hands got a regular mani! That is false advertising!!! My mani was rushed and there was no other customer waiting in line. My nails do not look like they were done 3 days ago but a month!! I went in expecting great service which I did not get, I would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

Very disappointed, I won't be going back and I would not recommend this nail salon to a friend. You can get better work at a more FAIR price. Also, please make sure to ask for an itemized copy of your receipt too, the prices online do not add up once the service you selected is complete. I was asked to not be on my Apple Watch while I got a pedicure... I was there for 2 hours... with no access to my phone and that can be very inconvenient, especially not knowing ones circumstances . I understand that this is an "upscale" salon and of course I was ready to support a black owned business but they do not even offer water and you have to pay a $1 for the slippers to walk out. She saw me try and open the door and just looked back down and continued working. There's no sign on the door saying they're short staffed or anything like that Or updated hours due to circumstances. I simply googled "dip powder nails" due to never having gotten dip powder before and wasn't sure who did it near me. I had gotten them done in Raleigh, NC and needed to get the color changed. I walked in and due to an appointment who no call/no showed , I got to see Gloria. She was fantastic! The person who had done my nails in Raleigh had put way too much so she had to take some more time to get everything off of my nails. By the end, it came out fanatic! Love this place! I was able to get same day appointment. When I called in they set the expectations when it came to the shop and how they work. I was able to walk right in with no wait. I was also able to be tagged teamed ( someone was doing my pedi and someone was doing my mani). They do professional and friendly. I love the fact that they have a no phone policy, that way I don't have to listen to anyone's story with they friends. I filed a POLICE REPORT as the owner PUSHED ME while I was trying to leave the salon. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS LOCATION!! The door was locked when I arrived and the person claiming she's the "owner" unlocked it. This was my first time in this establishment and I was the only client in the salon along with another employee in a green t-shirt. I was aware of the salon rules discussed when I made my appointment. I had washed my hands 2 times before taking a seat. I told the owner that I wanted to listen to my music and put my headphones on. She told me I needed to wash my hands another time after that and to leave my phone in their cubby. I washed my hands a 3rd time. I grabbed their salon menu card and she asked me to wash my hands again. I told her this was not the experience I was looking for and needed to cancel my appointment. She proceeded to yell at me and told me that I wasn't following instructions. I walked to the cubby to grab my purse and she followed me there. She kept verbally assaulting me to "get the F**K out of my business" while invading my personal space. I could not exit freely as the door was locked. She came up behind me to unlock it. By this time her staff also approached me in an attempt to physically intimidate me. The "owner" placed her hands on me and proceeded to PUSH me through the door. A lady walking by saw this happen and asked me if I was ok. I immediately called the police. I will perusing legal actions and advise you to STAY AWAY unless you want to be assaulted. read more

This place is amazing!! They work by appointment, so you go in & they're completely focused on you. My friend and I got Papaya Pedicures and she got an SNS manicure as well. Fatina and Nicole did our pedicures and did a fantastic job. They took their time making sure the nails were shaped well, our feet soft and smooth and our legs massaged and exfoliated. Tamara did my friends SNS manicure. First, she LISTENED to what shape and style my friend wanted which is more than a lot of other shops... and she delivered a beautiful job! I felt underwhelmed and really disappointed. I got a basic manicure. It was $16 (Im used to paying $12 at neighboring salons), but I thought it'd be a little treat and more high end than I'm used to. The color selection was slim (maybe 25% of what I typically see). My nail tech was really sweet and was trying her best. This is my go to nail salon anytime I'm in need of some pampering. Upon entering the salon you are greeted by an employee and some smooth relaxing music. I always get SNS on my nails, and it's so hard for me to find a decent nail salon who does SnS and who does it well. The staff is so welcoming and wonderful and the work is great! My nails always look so natural, and I get constant compliments! I decided to frequent the salon multiple times before leaving my review. I gave them 5 stars because the work is always great, the staff is always welcoming, and I always leave relaxed! These ladies are rockin it with natural nail care. The extra plus for me is the it is a black owned salon. Their prices may be a tab bit more than some of the other salons, but you definitely get your $$ worth. I went here with some of my coworkers during our lunch hour. The people were really friendly and accommodated all five of us. We all sat and got pedicures and manicures together. My service just okay. I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. The polish wasn't very smooth on my toes and the gel was okay. Normally my gel manicures can last a few weeks, but this one chipped after a week. Like I said, the people working there were so friendly and fun, but the service was a little slow. Great people though! Be sure you have a reservation when you go here because reservations are required when you go here. I used this salon for the first time recently, I was very pleased with the service and the finished product. Rasheeda was my nail tech, and she was fantastic! My nails haven't looked this good in a long time. I did the papaya pedicure and SNS nails. The prices are clearly listed so there's no surprises. The pedicure was very relaxing and I didn't feel rushed like at some other salons I have been to in the past, also it came with an refreshing alcoholic pineapple drink. I loved the color choices for my sns nails. I ended up going with frosted cupcake. Worth the extra money to do sns versus gel in my opinion (lasts longer and feels stronger on my nail), I will definitely be back. So I've waited a while to write my review until after a couple of visits. I was in search of a black owned shop and found Cocanails from instagram. This was super convenient for me at that time as I had to go to Cumberland Mall the same day that I wanted my nails and feet done. This was back in October 2016. Treva was the nail tech, and for whatever reason she was never there again after that initial visit. Ok so my first impression was good. Nail shop hidden in the plaza behind Walgreens- funny though I used to live up the street from there and never knew about this place. But anyway, my first visit I got a fullset gel nails and a pedi. It had been yearsssss since I had gotten nails but wanted something different for my 30th birthday. The nails were "aight" nothing spectacular though. After this visit I decided I'd return. So I went back every 2-3 weeks for a fill in and a pedi. After the first visit, the owner- Tamara- was my nail tech. She is very friendly, laid back, and funny. I liked her better than my initial nail tech. She reshaped my nails during my second visit and they looked sooo much better. I loved them. All was good- even though I live closer to the airport, I'd keep returning here as I thought it would be worth the drive. Ok let's fast forward. This place requires appointments so I always made it my business to make an appointment. My second to last appointment- Tamara called me to tell me she was running behind and asked if my appt could be pushed back another 30 mins. Ok cool, not an issue. I get there and she is still behind. Now I had plans set for after I left and those plans were trashed because my appt was actually about an hour and a half behind. This was all because she was having to tend to a client whom is Beyonce's back up dancer. So I'm guessing that means that other clients are on the back burn. I was patient and didnt make a fuss about it because my service is usually pretty good. Needless to say- they are short staffed or just slow. It has always taken about 2 hrs for my appts. But anyway, she did apologize for the delay and went on to explain what all she had to do for the client that she didnt expect. Really, that isnt my problem when you have other appts coming up. But anyway, this time one of my nails were lifting and upon clipping it, we discovered green on my nail (left thumb). Bacteria or some sort of fungal infection. She filed it down and put some antiseptic on it. She wanted to leave that nail alone and I come back the next day to have that one done but she went ahead and did it since I dont stay close by. Ok fast forward to a few days later (not even a week), I hit my nail trying to open a fossil watch tin. The nail (right thumb) popped off. Wasnt lifting or loose. Upon popping off, the nail was green. More green than the other. At this point I was frustrated and actually scared that my other nails would be that way. I called her to see if I could come in. She has no openings. I explained to her the issue. She first asked "did you get your nails done here" then I had to explain who I was so she would remember that she always does them. Then she asked was the nail lifting. I said no. She was certain that the nail must have been lifting to pop off. Okay- whatever- I pay attention to my nails because I am anal- especially days after just getting them done. So then she explained how the first time I got my nails done by Treva, that there was a nail or two that Treva didnt glue well and that couldve made water get in. Which sounds very much so like it could be correct. However, since that can't be changed- what do I do now. Her only solution was for me to possibly come the next morning. Uh, no. I have to work. Then she said she would call me if her 4:30 appt doesnt show or for me to call her back if I haven't heard from her. At that moment I decided- F it. I'll just go get some acetone and soak them all off and pray no other nails are affected. Luckily for me, just the two thumb nails, with the right one being the worst. This was early Jan when I made this discovery. The last appt was a few days before new year's day. So now today is 1/31/17 and I'm playing the waiting game. Just waiting on it to grow out, as nothing else can really be done to them. The left thumb nail is pretty weak and I assume the right will be too as that green portion grows out. The rest of my nails are jagged looking. And let's talk about the pedicure- Tamara usually did the pedi and my feet were okay. The last time she had another appt and had Kai to do my pedi. Kai is nice and all but she did a bad job. The polish was too thick. And omg I wont even go into my issue with the heels of my feet. Idk if she scrubbed too much or what but now my heels are not smooth. Definitely not the same as they were prior to me going here. So here I am waiting for these nails to grow out and searching again for a new shop. Ugh. The only reason for the second star is because they were nice/friendly people. read more

She quoted me 16.00 and then had me pay 21.00. I did not have time for her inexperienced nail tech to give me a manicure after it took her 25 minutes to do what a real nail tech could have done in 15. I didn't trust her to finish so I wanted her to stop where she was. I feared for my life in this establishment and I have never experienced this type of racism before in my life! I stopped in last week on a while while in ATL for business and what a mistake. Definitely not upscale, not clean, utensils were not sanitized, no polish selections and what they had seemed like it was very old. No TV's, No massage chairs, and not even offered a water. Long story short, I left with a subpar nail experience, Bleeding cuticles and polish all around my fingers that I was told would wash off in the shower. My bill for a Gel nail mani and REGULAR pedi was $75.00. They have all these up charges they do not tell you about. Even charge for throw away flip flops.. Mad at myself for even pulling in! Not an enjoyable experience some random Jamaican guy pops in talking loudly above the music, about absolutely nothing disturbing customers who are trying to relax. They could only accommodate 2 people at a time, mani and pedi done manually no equipment which takes longer and they are not very good at it. I had to constantly give direction pertaining to how to clip, file AND POLISH my toenails ( she was suppose to be the professional) I left with a HORRIBLE jacked up pedicure that I could have done and went right across the street to the Asian professionals to correct the issues. Today was my first, and last, visit. The Salon is decorated beautifully and the woman who greeted me was cheerful and welcoming. The location is convenient and it's surrounded by many other businesses allowing you to get many weekend errands done in the same spot. There was a 20 minute wait since I was a walk-in on a Saturday. That wasn't a huge deal because I didn't have an appointment and it was Saturday afternoon. The troubling part was that there were only two nail techs working . . . on a Saturday afternoon. The waiting area was comfortable so that helped. I really should have gone to the website before just stopping in. I requested a fill-in. The nail tech used a manual nail file to do the majority of the fill-in. Not only is this method considerably more time consuming, it's also a less effective way to achieve a smooth, even look to the nail. I understand that it's supposed to be more sanitary than other methods but not when the file is not new and not when my cuticles are scraped on two different nails. A mechanical file was used for a small portion of the process, however, it appeared to be old and/or defective. There was a considerable amount of vibration to the tool. So much so that it was extremely uncomfortable whenever it was used. I started the process by asking that my nails be cut down as short as possible. I had to repeat this request near the end of the process since it wasn't done. Additionally, when my nails were cut, they were cut with a toenail clipper that proved to be ineffective on gel powder (which the technician seemed not to be too familiar with). The nail polish used appeared to be extremely old. It was thick and gooey. The nail tech seemed to see nothing wrong with this. My nails are jagged, at least one is lumpy, there are some areas left without polish (near the edges) and I've spent part of the day peeling polish off of other edges. I will likely end up having to have my nails re-done next week, someplace else, and ahead of my usual every other week schedule. Lastly, while the salon is aesthetically pleasing, it would seem that it could benefit from additional ventilation. I experienced nose irritation approximately 15 minutes after walking in. By the time I left, I had a headache. After being out of the salon for 30 minutes all symptoms ceased. It could be a coincidence. However, it's something management might want to consider looking into. I would not recommend this salon to my friends. read more

This is a nicely decorated salon, but the service was just basic. I expected an Upscale salon experience, but received the same service, and sometimes less, as a place charging $20 less. While the atmosphere is clean and inviting, The music playing was a little too urban. I was never offered a refreshment, in fact while the tech was getting water for herself, she asked me how I like my water..she was referring to the pedicure water. The polish selection is very limited and both polishes I chose were quite thick and the manicurist didn't attempt to thin the polish for an easier application. So the time it took her to polish my nails was far longer than I expected, and the results were less than desirable. It took forever to dry and only lasted one day before peeling off. My toe polish lasted longer, but less than one week and my toes look like my cuticles and surrounding skin had never been touched. The papaya manicure was nothing special, i didn't even smell it. Also the hand mits never got warm. It also annoyed me that the tech wore gloves throughout the whole service, pedicure, then manicure, and lotioning my hands and arms. I wanted to like this place but I won't be going back. I went three times and while the pedicure was good their manicures - specifically their gel polish manicures - were very disappointing. The manicurist made a number of mistakes and while she tried to fix it the end result was messy. A few things to note: They don't have massage chairs for pedicures. The owner opted for a long cushioned bench. It is certainly prettier but significantly less comfortable. For manicures they have what appears to be dining chairs for customers. I love this salon. The salon operates on an appointment only basis which is nice that I get serviced immediately at my scheduled time. The salon is very clean. No detail was missed when it came time to clean at closing. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the seating is comfortable so you can relax while being pampered. After a long day of work, the leg and foot massage with my pedicure was greatly appreciated. I also loved how my nails (feet and hands) lasted weeks after being serviced. No chipping whatsoever. The music in the salon is relaxing as well. When I think I'm ready to leave, they tell me no because my nails aren't dry. I like how they double checked because I was ready to leave and that would have resulted in smudges. I left a book when I left and did not realize it until they called to tell me. Most places would not have done that and would have waited for you to remember. I don't get acrylics, just standard manicures (not even gel polish)... these manicures are essentially bulletproof. I can go 4 days before I start seeing wear at the tips. This NEVER happens! When I go to the standard el cheap-o chop shop, they always make me bleed when they do the cuticle snipping. Tamara uses a cuticle eliminator solution, lets it sit on my nails for 5-ish minutes, and is then able to just scrape it off and BOOM. No more cuticle issues. For awhile, I stopped getting manicures professionally done because I was tired of people making me bleed and having sore and red fingers for the following 2 days. She officially has me for life because she doesn't hurt me! I will say a couple of things: the polish selection is very small, but very on-point with the current trends. I do usually bring my own polish, because I like peculiar colors. Also - for a basic manicure, with polish, be prepared to carve out 45-60 minutes of your day for it. It is slowwww going at this place. But she just does such a good, thorough job that I'm willing to take the time for it. My basic manicure (with polish) was $15. I'm not entirely sure why it's listed as $$$ on Yelp... it's really not that much. Regal Nails inside Walmart is $12, and they might as well be chopping my fingers off at the knuckles. My polish changes are $8, which I think is a little pricey, but again, she just does such a good job that I'm willing to shell out for it. Even while I was in there yesterday for a polish change, another girl came in after having gotten a terrible manicure from somewhere else and begged Tamara to fix it, saying she'd never stray again. Cocanails is a small operation, and kind of tucked away back near Doc's. They've been open since October, and I hope more people start going here so they don't close! Sigh...where do I start. This is place is NOT upscale as they claim. I frequent upscale salons for the experience. THIS establishment does not warrant an "upscale" experience...in name only I guess. I wasn't even greeted with a "hello" only.. "do you have an appointment?" PRICE: BE WARNED they are NOT cheap. I paid almost $100 for a gel manicure and pedicure. And that wasn't even the deluxe package. As someone who frequents upscale nail salons i can attest that YOU DO NOT get what you pay for. Part of the appeal of going to an upscale salon is that yes you will pay more but you pay extra for outstanding service and am I was never offered a beverage. I wasn't offered ANYTHING to drink. Every upscale salon I frequent at least offers beverages to their customer (and considering the price you will pay- they definitely should) There are no massaging chairs. No dim/relaxing light/ambience If you're going to claim yourself as an upscale salon then your environment should match that. There was no ambience to speak of other than a Pandora station in the background. SERVICE: My mani and pedi were not on par for the price--in fact It looks the exact same if not a little worse then when I've had to go to an asian salon for 1/3rd of the price -if you're going to claim upscale and charge the prices you are charging there should be a VISIBLE difference in quality. It is not. ****************************************************** A note to the owner (whom from glancing at previous posts on here is sure to show up and be combative and defensive instead of using that energy to better her business model--and yes I'm sure you have regulars who don't mind this) 1. Offer an ACTUAL upscale atmosphere. Playing neo soul in the background doesn't warrant upscale. 2. Match your service to your price 3. Get more gel options!! 4. Stop nickel and diming your customer! (Yes you hand your customers a price sheet--but the total is still confusing---mention that you charge for polish removal and that its NOT included in the price. Possibly mention that you offer ala carte service so your patrons can bet better prepared. $1 dollar for the pedi shoes that YOU GET FREE from other salons is a prime example. 5. BE NICER TO WALK-INS! I watched you condescendingly tell everyone that you only accept appointments---give them the benefit of the doubt--most salons take walk-ins. Be nicer explaining this. read more
