First time here and was really impressed with the quality of food served there. Great tasting Mexican cuisine and a very reasonable time between ordering and serving. Service was excellent despite how busy it was. And love the range of seating in the restaurant, from tall table with chairs to normal seating arrangements. My aunt shared a video on instagram of Cocina Adamex's GIANT conchas and coffee and I was immediately intrigued. We both work nearby so we decided to try it out and were not disappointed! Immediately upon entering you can see the display case of pan dulces, including their XL conchas. We soon got in line to order food which was wrapped around the corner to the entrance! After a few moments we got a glimpse of the dining area and it was PACKED! We struck up conversation with a gentleman waiting for his takeout order and he said as a regular, he's never seen it so busy and recommended the chilaquiles if we were in a breakfast mood. I ultimately went with the green chilaquiles with a fried egg and my aunt ordered 2 crunchy tacos to go. We paid and waited off to the side for our food. We saw several tables with the XL concha and the massive bowl of coffee to go with it and just know we have to come back to try them! The line stayed wrapped around the corner for about 25 min after we ordered, AT LEAST! It was sooo nice to see a locally owned shop sooo busy and honestly thriving! Once our food was ready, we left to go back to work and the food was still just as fresh and piping hot as if we dined in almost 15 minutes after we got it. The chilaquiles were perfect, the sauce had the right amount of heat and I was pleasantly surprised to find his had pieces of meat in it as well. The beans were super creamy and the egg cooked perfectly. My aunts tacos were crisp and full of flavor. This place is a popular spot, but the conchas are some of the best I've tried so I understand why. Dip it in that coffee, so good! Unfortunately, I didn't know you have to reserve the XL concha's at least the day before, so I was disappointed, but the reg size was still good, and honestly, more than enough! I also ordered a bacon breakfast burrito with potatoes and onions. It was ok, but I'd recommend the conchas. Service was great, and the staff were friendly and funny. Parking is a bit tough and the wait is long, we waited about 40 minutes. However, the overall experience was great and I'd recommend coming here with friends or small groups- especially to reserve a seat! read more

Our first time here. Open for breakfast as well but we decided to get lunch. Had a steak burrito with green sauce, and ask for a couple eggs on top. Wife had the tamale and a taco. We also tried the Mexican cookie. You stand at counter to order food and they bring it to you. They also make tortillas to take home so we did that as well. The portions were decent and the taste was pretty good. I give the flavor a 4 out of 5 and the prices were pretty reasonable. All the employees looked very happy and friendly as well. I came to this place because I saw a posting on Instagram showing a gigantic concha and cup of coffee, so I had to check it out. The chips and salsa were good, I had a chimichanga which was okay. My friend had the chili relleno and he said it was okay. We went to the bakery to get anything because the gigantic concha on Instagram just caught my eyes. Honestly, I was the least bit impressed. The service was super poor. They had a lot of staff working, but they were busy talking and simply ignoring us. Yea, the concha was was big- the XL, IT WAS $15 while the large concha was $10. Too much bread for me. I got a Mexican cookie, didn't have a lot of flavor. My friend thought he got a pineapple empanada because that's what the label said, but it was pumpkin so he was not happy (he doesn't like pumpkin). So this place is a Mexican food restaurant with a bakery in the back. The bakery didn't have much to chose from. Stopped by for a late lunch. They have open seating and they have a great covered patio! When it gets hotter, the enclosed patio will still protect from the sun. And it's pet friendly! Hubby had hard shell taco plate and I had the Machaca plate. We each had a Paloma. The taco shells weren't fried, they're more so baked/premade shells. I liked the machaca, maybe could have had a bit more salt. Especially with the tortillas being a little bland. The frijoles and arroz were tasty tho... She was very sweet, polite, attentive, and very hard working. She was determined to provide us the best experience here! She deserves a raise! Another lady, Ali, was kind of rude while we were ordering. Ali interrupted our ordering process with Alexis and also seemed to be treating her coworker with disrespect, right in front of us. Formerly Azteca Bakery this joint was one of my favorite Mexican food spots. It was one of the last places we're real abuelitas cooked the food. It was on the berg of shutting it doors and somehow came back with a new look and new name Cocina Adamex. The food was still good and there still was some abuelitas in the kitchen but like most other great spots...INFLATION got to them. They started cutting back on refillable soft drinks, portion size, and now their red hot sauce is disappeared too. The pro's...it nice, welcoming, clean restrooms, parking is good, affordable and they are open past 2pm. The con's...small portions, 2-3 tortilla chips ratio, small portions and no hot sauce (yes, a Mexican Food restaurant with not hot sauce available) the lemonade is watered down and they don't have free refills. This place was a great spot for lunch and now it's on my list of good but no longer great. C'mom guys....no hot sauce...really! read more

This place has a lot of mix reviews but decided to give it a try. It honestly looks very clean when you walk in. Our table unfortunately wasn't but it looks like when we walked in they were in the process of cleaning it. The staff was friendly but not overly friendly. They are young so you can tell they are just there to do a job. Food came out pretty quickly and it was tasty. Nothing for me to say I would come back for but it was good food like other food Mexican places. It does look like they offer tortillas and they had pastries too. I think next time I will try one of the Mexican sweet breads and give a review on that. The rice and beans were cooked good and the salsa was also tasty. You do have to buy chips and salsa separately but overall it was a pleasant meal. read more

Customer Service needs some help. Otherwise, the giant hot chocolate was delicious! Don't forget to preorder the XL concha 1 day in advance! I have had better "Mexican food" dishes elsewhere in AZ. Cocina Adamex (formerly Azteca Cocina) is clean, welcoming, serving sizes are large, prices are reasonabke, and the staff are friendly, however the food on this visit just wasn't very good. On this visit my lunch companion and I ordered a chorizo and egg burrito and cheese quesadilla. The cheese quesadilla was good however the chorizo and egg burrito wasn't very good. The tortilla was great tasting but the filling was all chorizo and if it had any egg I couldn't see or taste it. I think the burrito would have been better had it had some egg. I guess I will revist again atca later date and maybe try a diffrent menu item read more

Saw them on Instagram and was wowed so much so I had my guy go with the kid after school. The kid ordered carne asada taco plate meat and cheese only and I had the beef taco plate to go. They were wiped clean in the bakery with only a few empenadas left by lunchtime, I was bummed no conchas or even a cookie. Got home excited to have some good Mexican food. My taco shells tasted like they came out of a taco kit from Walmart and my kids meat and cheese taco was covered in lettuce tomato and onions without cheese. The kid and I both agree the 40 minutes waited there could of been skipped for a better meal at Taco Bell. We agreed the carne asada was not good, and he didn't like my taco either. He did like the rice and the beans were good. But won't be going back for more disappointment. And my kid got cereal instead. The place was pretty though. read more

First experience: not so good; ordered through Grub Hub. Not sure who's fault, but apparently items listed in the GH menu are not what the business makes. Service fell short of being remotely sufficient. Second experience: went for dinner, ordered 2 meals, they prepared something totally different than what was ordered. Brought it to the staff's attention and they flat out asked what was wrong. I had to point out the differences when their own menu explains what the item is. They attempted to remake and took way longer than it should've. Third experience: Waited at register for cashier to get off phone, even though other staff was just standing there. One cashier finished call, turned and asked if I needed anything in a very dismissing attitude. Ordered food to go and attempted to also purchase two bottled drinks. They informed me that I couldn't take the bottled drinks with me. They would have to pour them into cups. Nowhere is it posted in the business that this was there policy. I was a little confused, aren't I paying for the product? Once purchased, doesn't it become mine now? Staff attitude was just too down right non-chalant and acted as if was interrupting their day. I do have to commend them for the remodel and upgraded ambiance of the building, but I was a patron of Azteca (the previous business) for decades and didn't experience this nor the poor customer service. Needless to say, I'll just stick with Norteños or other local offerings and let anyone that ask me to just stay away from here. As soon as I arrived, someone in my party told me to order right away because "they're out of everything." I asked if they had chicken. I was told chicken was available. I ordered a chimichanga. The chimichanga was filled with greasy chunks of chicken meat. I specifically asked for shredded chicken and was assured it was shredded. Interestingly enough, the cashier stated the chimichangas are pre-rolled therefore chicken was available to me. Hmmm... In retrospect, I wasn't asked if I would like red or green sauce, either. I'm from LA visiting family and we are obsessed with cafe de olla. We found this restaurant on Instagram and it's known for the large conchas. I got the machaca burrito and it was awful, it was filled with big chunks of onions, green bell peppers and half tomatoes. The machaca tasted like fake meat. We ordered the red menudo and it was tasteless and had more hominy than meat. The cafe de olla was $15 for three cups and I would give it a 4 out of 10. People should stop making places seem better than they are on social media because the crowd here definitely wasn't for the food but for the cute social media posts. read more

While driving down 7th Avenue I seen this location and looked up the reviews and photos and was interested in trying the food. I attempted to order online however it stated the breakfast options were not available which I was unsure about because it was around 7am. I drove to the restaurant and ordered from there. The first thing I noticed walking in through the rear door is the casing full of pan dulces. I knew I had to try some and got a coche (which was okay in taste). While ordering my breakfast my interaction with the staff was great and friendly. The interior of the restaurant was cute and clean inside. I ended up going with the breakfast burrito which you're able to customize and choose up to 4 items inside (more for an additional price) and I chose to get eggs, beans, carne asada, and cheese. I really wanted to like it but was disappointed in what I received. The burrito itself was fairly small compared to your "standard" Mexican burrito and at almost $9 I expected a little more. Secondly, I know the restaurant prides themself in making their tortillas in house. They were not bad in taste however it was really dry and felt like it was coated in flour which gave it a really weird texture while eating. Lastly the food itself was really bland and lacked seasoning. I know some restaurants do this due to letting the customers control how much season to add (by offering salt and pepper packets) however it didn't seem like that was the case here, which I could be wrong. I don't want to base my review solely on this one visit because it could easily be just what I ordered.
