Came here this morning and WOW! The lady at the front taking our order was so lovely and sweet. Service was a 10/10, and without even trying the food I knew it was going to be delicious. The smell when you are walking in is a wonderful mixture of cooked meats. We ordered the Barbacoa burrito, and a pollo/asada burrito and both were a 10/10. Of all the asaderos in the valley, Norte de Sonora takes the torta for being the most centrally located. If memory serves, it's maybe a block or two south of the historic Garfield district. Which means, if walking there, you'll have to trudge through the odd huddle of meth freaks. You endure having to witness such degradations of humanity because you espy, up ahead, the plume of smoke escaping the vent at Asadero. You even skip passed the twin taco trucks because they offer general Mexican food and are operated by and for more recent Mexican immigrants. But Asadero is purely Sonoran-Arizonan: what you, as an outsider, have come to the desert in search of. What you need to order is grilled beef. They have an entire platter of assorted carnes asadas. But at the very least, an asada burrito is in order. Also worth sampling are the charro beans (a kind of bean soup). The only disappointment you will find is that the aforesaid smoke, is the result of charcoal and not mesquite. read more

I had high hopes for this one because a Latin friend of mine recommended Asadero Norte de Sonora for its authentic Mexican cuisine. I stopped by on a Tuesday for naturally, taco Tuesday. They have a small parking lot, but I was able to find an open spot. I imagine that it's a little tougher on a weekend. Ambiance (1.5/5): This was the crux of the experience. Asadero is a small, homey restaurant. Nothing wrong with that. The big issue? The acoustics. The way the restaurant is constructed, you can hear everything very loudly. Someone moves their chair? Blasts your ears. Babies crying? A complete nightmare. And there were two while I was there which wasn't very fun. When the restaurant is full, the issue amplifies. Service (4/5): The service, on the other hand, was solid. Our waitress checked in on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and did a good job overall. You pay for your order at the front. No complaints. Drinks (3/5): They don't have alcohol so its all soft drinks and agua frescas. They have popular Mexican sodas, but I had to go with a limonada agua fresca. They have three different flavors, and three different sizes. I rarely will say no to an agua fresca. Food (3/5): I went with a carne asada caramelo, barbacoa taco, and chicken taco. I had never had a caramelo before. Think of it as a quesadilla with the sides open. It ended up being my favorite part of th meal. The tacos are served the traditional way with onions and cilantro. On your choice of either flour or corn tortillas. I mixed and matched. You also get a side of a creamy guacamole sauce. The tacos weren't bad, but the meat was a bit dry. Plus, you get chips and salsas as a complimentary starter. With both red and salsa. Unfortunately, both salsas were too hot for a gringo like me. The prices at Asadero are affordable which is always appreciated. The food could have been a little better, and due to the acoustics, I'd make it a take-out experience. read more

It's family run and the decor is simple and has a very home-y vibe. The salsas they provide are delicious and spicy. There were two of us here and we ordered the Half Parillada with tongue, carne asada, and al pastor. It was so much meat - more than enough to satisfy us. I ended up liking the al pastor the most but they were all delicious: well cooked and flavored while still retaining excellent juiciness. The paradilla had pastor (marinated pork), carne asada (sliced steak), and a smoked beef rib. You do get your choice of meats - they also had chicken, and a few more options. They brought us chips and salsa, and we each got a cup of beans. The beans were amazing. It was half beans and half broth. Very flavorful. I had the paradilla which also came with roasted onions, and jalapeños, Sliced limes, cucumber, flour and corn tortillas, and guacamole. It was amazing. Everything was amazing. We were the only people that ordered in English for the hour that we were there - the employees are bilingual. Menus are in English and Spanish also. It had an actual churro but it wasn't fresh or crunchy. Cheesecake was super creamy, came with fresh strawberries and whipped cream but the cheesecake was really sweet, not a super big fan of that.
