I went here on a Friday to check out a new night, called Frescura, and let me just say I haven't felt a vibe like this in a long time! From the moment I walked in, the energy was electric and the vibe was pure fuego. The DJs, Fresko, Rich Spirit, absolutely crushed it with a seamless mix of Latin rhythms and party classics all on vinyl! You could feel the love for the music in every transition and track they dropped. The dance floor was PACKED. From start to finish. I saw strangers dancing like old friends, everyone moving, sweating, and smiling to every beat. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Last week, I decided to show my friends a little hole in the wall bar that I used to frequent. They're not from the area so I thought it would be fun to come here. The place was empty! It was just us 4 girls and another small group there. We were having a good time until we decided we wanted to use the restroom before they closed. We were in the bathroom for 3 minutes when the manager CLIFF and security DICK (that's the name he gave us) decided to push the door open on us and grab my friend by her arms and try to DRAG HER OUT! Keep in mind there is only ONE stall in this bathroom. How dare they come in and lay their hands on us! Will NOT be coming here again. Okay so I wasn't so sure when we pulled up to the spot which is located in the back corner of a day, dare I say, deserted shopping center. The ambiance is dive bar chic, red couches, long bar, window into the shuffleboard room next door. After literally staying for almost 5 hours I can say I'm a fan! The crew - Larry, Wil and DJ Charlie made the trip a success. The drinks are good, strong enough and affordable. The bathroom is clean and the environment is cool. I got a picture drawn of "me" by an interesting little lady who felt so compelled by my beauty that she needed to sketch it! Looked nothing like me but added to the comic relief of the evening. I would say once more people find this little hidden gem it will be the place to be. It never got crowded, which to me was a good thing, but if you are going to see and be seen this is not the spot for you. but if you want to drink, hear good music and chill with your friends you couldn't ask for a better spot. Well deserving of 4it's located in a shopping center which parking is not bad at all. The drinks are priced perfectly I think I paid $6 but not enough alcohol but for $6 can't complain. The music on Friday's are great haven't been there any other day other than Friday. It's old school but 2000ish old school reminds me of when I was in high school. Right across the street from the famed Anarchy Library, Cocktails Anyone is a small divey joint with a good selection of beers as well as friendly bartenders. Personally, I believe that the drink prices are more reasonable here than at Anarchy. There is no cover charge to come in which is even greater. On certain days of the week, they will have good specials on beverages. They do often play an eclectic mix of music. When they play Spanish rock, that's when I'm at my best! They do have pool tables in the back area. The place itself has a dark yet goth feel to it but very roomy with the dance floors. They do also have big screen televisions that are always playing music videos. Overall, whenever I go to Anarchy and I feel that their vibe isn't hitting me as great, this is my go to place. Luckily it is right across the street in a small sized shopping mall. Parking is readily available. Try it out if you do not believe me. My fiance likes this place because it has pool tables and it's pretty chill. However, this past Sunday we went there and there was a bartender named Kim. She was terrible. First of all, the beer was hot and she would not get off her cell phone. We were hanging out on the pool table side which also has an opening to the bar. I had an open tab which I kept ordering drinks for three people on. It was dead that day so I'm sure I was making the bar more money than most people at the bar. I would expect good service because of it but instead everytime we asked for another round she would ignore us, get on her phone or start chatting with other people. Eventually I got tired of it and found the manager. I told him that the bartender was terrible and that we were all unhappy. He told us we would get a free round of drinks and went to go tell her. Instead of apologizing she starting arguing with us. She started screaming at us in front of the manager and he did nothing. So she refused to serve us our free drinks and instead the manager did it. Made my way up the 91 and met up with her. The first thing that I found peculiar about this place was its name. I like it, it doesn't try to be what it is not. Sounds humble, and straight to the point. Once we were inside I noticed the red booths that lined the walls, the artwork hanging reminded me of the rockabilly chicks that used to go to my high school, and how I could never get my hair shiny enough to even get a stare of disapproval from them. Luckily I have found the perfect demographic of girls that I need to go for: Frail ones from broken homes raised by single mothers, oh and they have to weigh less than me. Path of least resistance. But my lack of game has no place in this review. The crowd was mostly younger Hispanic. Didn't get the slightest hint of pretentiousness coming from anyone inside. People just there doing their thing, and enjoying their night, making the best of being on a budget. Dance floor was pretty empty initially, but did start filling up with clumps of chicas dancing. Never got to full capacity though. We went up to the bar, she ordered the first round. I had a whiskey coke, and for $2 it cannot be beat. The bartender was pretty generous with his pour, and it managed to get me a little fuzzy. I don't know, I guess going to a dive bar I expect dive bar prices, especially for bottled beer. as far as the music, whoa, it was all over the place and not in the greatest way. 3 words: Harlem Shake videos. THIS PLACE IS THE SHIT!! This past Saturday was my 21st birthday, and I originally was going to celebrate at Joseph's in Downey until the staff and clientele there completely turned me off. My older sister suggested this place, and I am so happy she did. My party and I had a blast. This is our kind of place!! The dance floor was playing 90s hip-hop and the back room with the pool tables was amazing. The decor is pretty dope from what I can remember. Haha The staff made my party and I feel like family and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for dealing with me. They also gave me a birthday champagne bottle on the house. Awesome.
