My first time here, but lady's old spot and was down for anything. First the security guards are awesome friendly and inviting making you feel like a regular. It was $10 at the door, but I was willing to pay because i am never on this side of town. Right away this couple saw us offered to sit with them right away great vibes with them and whole atmosphere. Our drinks was $27, but they were good. The music was awesome 80's n early 90's. Then the tribute band was cool playing "No Doubt" music was . I've been to this spot two times w/ my gurlie crew and both times was on the dance floor for most of the songs playing before bands perform around 11pm. I don't not know what happened on Friday night July 10th but that DJ was not playing any of the regular synthesized tunes I recall from the 80's! No B-52's, No Devo, Not even Madonna. The DJ was not spinning tunes to get the early crowd going. and friends I took there looked at me like I betrayed them. Lol I will still return to this bar coz the bartenders make good drInks, the security guards are cool, and waitresses are attentive. The best spot to be on any weekend or holiday night. They are able to fit a stage, dance floor, bar, and karaoke room in this small corner location. Everyone that comes has a great vibe and there is a good mix of younger and older crowds. Coverbands and events are offered constantly and available on their calendar so you can plan a night out with friends. They offer food and drink service that isnt gourmet but hits the spot everytime. Hands down one of the most humiliating and trash experiences I've ever had at a bar. We showed up to Newwave around 9 PM. The place was DEAD, and were met with a $10 cover. No problem. We handed the hostess $30 upfront while rounding up the rest from our group of 6. Instead of giving us 30 seconds to get organized, she immediately jumped to conclusions and accused us of trying to sneak in. Loudly. Aggressively. As if we were criminals. She then proceeded to yell at us in front of everyone there (all 10 people, max), telling us to get "behind the line" like we were misbehaving children. We had the money in hand. We were trying to pay. Her unprofessionalism and attitude were absolutely uncalled for and flat-out embarrassing. What kind of bar treats potential customers like this, especially when it's completely empty and clearly desperate for business? Instead of welcoming guests, they'd rather cause a scene and alienate people trying to spend money there. We took our money elsewhere, and you should too. There's no vibe, no crowd, and definitely no reason to put up with that kind of disrespect. read more

I wish I could give this business 4.5 stars. I went on 10/25/25. I've read lots of reviews about how awful the security was in the past. I don't know if they were new, received training, or what, but our groups interaction (we had 9 people) with security was fantastic. They couldn't have been more friendly. The waitress we had was also great. I'm only downgrading them a bit (again I would give 4.5 if I could) was due to the DJ. I know it's an 80s new wave themed bar but if you're going to play Eddie Murthy's "Party All the Time," then you can certainly throw in some classic 80s artists like Michael Jackson and Prince. NOT AN 80s Bar! We went this past Friday night, sooooo disappointed. Only a handful of people over 40, attention!, if you're under 40, the 80s is NOT your era. Stick to your time, 90s, 2000s, why do you have to take everything? The crowd was 90% Hispanic, half of the karaoke songs were non 80s songs in Spanish, WTF? Even the DJ didn't play all 80s stuff, truly the only 80s part of the night was the Billy Idol cover band but they didn't come on til 11pm. If you want to call yourself an 80s Bar then at least try, appeal to the people that actually lived the 80s, we love the music and vibe of that time and this place had none of that. Demand that if you sing a karaoke song, it has to be an 80s song, duh. I guess this is LA now but what a drag, there are a thousand other places that don't call themselves an 80s bar, why can't they go there and let the REAL 80s people have their fun. Damn! read more

It looks super small from the outside but once you go inside it's a totally different story. The dining/karaoke room is pre spacious. The bar/ dance/ stage room is also pretty big. The music and videos they play are awesome. The specialty cocktails like the Purple Rain and Sex Dwarf are also fun. Loved this bar so much, came here for the very first time yesterday, it was so much fun had a great time! My server Vanessa was awesome she was very helpful and very attentive to me and my party loved her vibes despite having extremely rude disrespectful customers, it didn't let it get to her she was awesome ! Honestly one of the worst first impressions I've ever had walking into a bar. A few friends and I went to Newwave around 9 PM and were met with a $10 cover charge. Fair enough. We immediately handed over $30 while we finished collecting the rest from our group. But instead of a simple, "Hey, we need the full amount before you all can head in," the hostess decided to escalate things to a whole new level, accusing us of trying to sneak in without paying, yelling at us to get behind a line, and making a full-blown scene in front of everyone there (which, by the way, wasn't many, it was basically empty inside). It was so unnecessary. We weren't being difficult. We had the money. We were literally in the middle of paying. It felt more like a power trip than any real concern about entry. I was honestly shocked at how quick she was to jump to hostility. No professionalism. No chill. Just full on attitude. If that's how they treat paying guests, I don't even want to know how the rest of the night would've gone. We left immediately and won't be going back. Of course I was gonna like this place I'm obsessed with the 80s and karaoke. I'm surprised it took me so long to get here. $10 cover charge. Initially the dance floor was empty, but there's a room to the right for karaoke . It was definitely packed . Just happened to have Three available seats for my friends and I. We sat down to watch the show. Very cool 80s karaoke going on ! QR code for the karaoke book. Thank Goodness, they had my songs . Huge big fishbowl drinks dangerous ! After a couple karaoke songs you can hear the next room popping off. We went next-door to the Billy Idol cover band who was a very talented look alike ! It was also his birthday. Great stage presence and nailed all my favorite songs. I love Billy Idol. It is an 80s club so there's gonna be older people which I loved, and made me feel good ! There was cool young kats as well . Tonight one of the security guards was a jerk for no apparent reason. My husband and I were told we could sit on a table that had no name on it. So we found a table sat and when we were about to order food and drinks, he approached us and told us in a very rude tone to get up and move. When I asked what was the reason he said, "Only I sit there!." I felt so embarrassed. Thankfully one of the waitresses there apologized for his coworker's rudeness and found us another seating area. That security guard needs to get off his high horse and treat his customers with respect especially when there's no reason for such rude approach. Also, some other people were seating there later on so I don't know what was his deal. He should be cautious because if he's rude to other customers that situation might of ended up differently. Sad to say this but stay the HELL AWAY from this area. Criminals target people who attend this venue by vandalizing and stealing from their vehicles. The parking offered by the venue is small, so patrons have to find parking on the street. The bar is on Lakewood, but it sits adjacent to a side street name Rose St., in a seemingly well lit and residential area. Well we parked on Rose St., a few feet from the venue and right under the street light. Our car was vandalized and robbed. The rear window of our car was smashed into pieces and a friend's passenger side window was also smashed. We notified personnel from the venue and we were told this is a common occurrence, especially on Rose St. We were told someone whose car was broken into ended up tracking their stolen AirPods to a residence on that street. Ironically, the first and only other time that I came to this venue a few years ago, something similar happened to cars that were parked by the same residential area. So basically, this bar sits on the corner of a little crime den. Not a happy thing. Look elsewhere for fun. P.S. Upon exiting the venue and as we were walking to our vandalized vehicles, there was a street takeover. read more

I've been going to this place for 10 years and have watched its decline, but have remained quiet. I can't anymore after this past Saturday (3/21). Before my eyes, a full on brawl broke out that escalated rather quickly. Fights break out, but sadly, only two of the security guards were able to assist what seemed to be about 10+ people involved. One of the security guards was clueless to what was happening until after the fact, the other was "cut " due to a low amount of patrons in attendance. Seems to me the last thing that should be "cut" is security because you never know what type of element will enter. Anyways, the two security guards, Ernie and Julio, handled the situation with the assistance of the back kitchen staff- they are to be commended. Please rethink your security situation and consider investing in them to patrol the entire night. This fight could have gone really, really bad. In addition, I'd like to feel safe here again but after Saturday and finding out you "cut" security, I no longer do. It's bad enough the drinks are ridiculously overpriced and the restrooms tend to be a nuisance (not flushing, low water pressure)- I dealt with that, but now that safety is an issue, I'll be hoping you take measures to ensure things like this no longer take practice. read more

This place is a bright spot in my life. I started going here from the very beginning. The ambience is amazing and it's like you stepped right into the world of the 80s. The music is amazing. The servers really take care of you and the drinks are just refreshing and delicious. Yes there is a cover charge for $10, but it's all worth it. My goddaughter's boyfriend was treated extremely disrespectfully by the bartender over what appeared to be a simple misunderstanding. I can't express how much I genuinely love and adore New Wave. It's the perfect place for literally anyone and every type of background. There's always something for you there! From the great food and drinks, to the BEST music on the main dance floor and karaoke jams! The servers both behind the bar and serving in the Karaoke Room are also always sooo genuinely kind, respectful and SO good at what they do. I always tell people who haven't been that it's a little whole in the wall spot that has just enough of everything you could possibly want from a bar/karaoke/dance venue. I've been there alone early Thursdays just to get my groove on and late Friday and Saturday nights singing the very last song enjoying the best chicken nachos or a burger with a refreshing beer. Great hole in the wall bar / club/ karaoke/ hangout place. Parking is tough, but it's possible. Area is safe and well lit and overall gives you confidence. Bar is cool, and there is a list of unique drinks and friendly bartenders. The karaoke room is funky, just odd funny and rhythmic. Came in after hitting the bricks club in Maywood after a goth night. It was PACKED! They had some sort of doors tribute band playing in the main room out back they had a nice crowd gathering for karaoke, which was a really fun. A couple next to my girlfriend and her friend were basically dry humping on the chair security kicked them out swiftly. Drinks there were good and strong as well.
