Came here a few more times. The crowd and staff are great. Friday and Saturday are the busiest. I do have to say they if you're a non-smoker like me, and you don't want to be around it, don't come Thursday. That's cigar day. It got so Smokey that my nose hurt, and it took effort to wash the scent off me at home. I've just never lived with smokers, so I didn't know how bad it can get. Just keep that in mind. read more

Spent my 40th birthday at this venue. This place is a little speakeasy in the rear of an American Legion. They're trying to appeal to the younger crowd and it's a success. My wife booked out the venue on a weekend evening and invited friends and family. Bartender was able to make a Pencillin drink and was very impressed. The decor, lounge area, and bar top were just the right fit for people to drink, chat, and share memories laughing together. Restrooms are clean and convenient. If you want to visit on a weekend, please come have a drink and support the owners purpose for this place. If you want to rent a venue with 20-25 people, please contact them and enjoy the evening. If your weekend plans doesn't include OpSek Post 354 then you're missing out! I visited this speakeasy, the first co-located within an American Legion, while I was in SoCal and it didn't disappoint. The bartenders were not only extremely friendly and welcoming, but also made some tasty handcrafted cocktails as well. I really like the mission behind this cocktail lounge - bring younger veterans together for camaraderie and provide help with resources - and that it's open to all individuals (not just veterans). Sounds like this speakeasy has some cool things in the works and I'll definitely be back when I head back home to SoCal in the future. Staff is super friendly and love the cozy vibe of the place - seating is available at a few 2-4 person tables, at the bar, or in a small room with a large table. I was lost... and I didn't know if it was literally or just emotionally. Was it spawn from a mid-life crisis? From a quarter-life crisis? Perhaps it's from a rough few days that happen to come in life from time to time? But most likely it was from the extraordinary amount of whiskey that had already been consumed and released to its grave, the toilet. I wearily raised my head up to see where I was, who I was with. My first observation was that if I came with somebody, I was not leaving with them, for I didn't see one familiar face. The next observation was my environment. There was a band playing and a bevy of military veterans laughing, dancing and drinking away their sorrows. Judging by my bar tab I needed a change of scenery, somewhere quiet, somewhere hidden. Synchronicity hit just as I was having that thought, walking around the corner of the building I had just stumbled out of because there was a hidden gem that lay ahead. More like a hidden bar. A speakeasy for the more cultured of drinkers. I knocked on a door and announced my intentions and voila, the adjacent wall opened up, exposing a hidden wonderland where you can have a drink, play some chess and make new friends. The bartenders were cordial, the drinks were somewhat stiff and most importantly it was hidden. What can I say? Sometimes a man just wants to be hidden and left alone. But by the end of my staring contest with whiskey I left OpSek 'found' and whole again. Stay refraining from using alcohol to numb your thoughts my friends.... read more

What an unexpected find. This hidden speakeasy is located inside the American Legion Post Bar. Same owner, but totally different vibes. I won't give up the secret of how to enter the antechamber, but once you do.....you're immediately transported to another time period. This speakeasy is veterans theme. It's one small, dark, intimate room filled with a couple bar stools and tables. There were portraits of important military figures everywhere; adding to the nostalgic feel. On the left, there's an amazing lit bar and friendly bartenders who tend to it. The cocktails they made were tasty and also didn't break the bank. My husband and I drove all the way from Newport Beach to try this place out and it was worth the drive. First of all the bartender is fantastic and knows his stuff. I love that this is housed inside an American Legion, but you don't have to be a member to come to the speakeasy portion. It is beautifully appointed and it has really inventive drinks. Was introduced to this place by a friend and it did not disappoint. Drinks are super good (and fairly priced!) and the bartenders are friendly and super accommodating to our tastebuds. It's a small speakeasy bar. It's very intimate and they have good selection of drinks. Parking is easy and private lot. It was a very pleasant experience. They have board games and we played Chess, which I lost :) but very well enjoyed. Service was also top notch. Can't wait to be back there. read more

4.5 stars for me! Speakeasies are always fun to come by and I had heard about Op Sek Post 354, a veteran-themed bar that requests that at least one member of your party is currently in the military or a veteran - you'll find this speakeasy in the American Legion building after all. Reservations are easy - you make them on the website and I made one for 5pm, right when they open (they use OpenTable). You enter a non-descript door and..: well it wouldn't be fun to give anything else away. It was so fun to be accompanied by someone in our group who could give us the intel on the theming and decor tied to Op Sek (the only thing I could decipher was the Morse code - all those years of Scouting finally paid off). I got the Old Fashioned, my go-to drink and then also tried a drink called Berry's Tramp Stamp - there's a photo and a story about the origin of the drink's name but loose lips sink ships. I won't ruin that surprise either :) All in all, this place is a great and cozy vibe. The only thing I'll say is that this speakeasy doesn't serve food - no bar snacks either - but I gave this a 5 star rating because the bartender offered to cut up a dragonfruit for me to nosh on while I had a drink - and I appreciated that. A hidden gem! I rented out the venue for my birthday! Opsek was the perfect place to have a martini theme party! The setting gave off vintage and classic. The lighting and music was perfect and took us back in time! Bartenders were great and allowed me to have a custom martini menu and made recommendations for cocktails. First off, the design and layout of the bar was very impressive. I was not in the military but in talking to other patrons and the owner about the mission of Op Sek, it made me appreciate the bar even more. The decoration was placed with a specific purpose based on the owners vision and mission to bring a younger generation of veterans to a place they can feel at home. At least that's what I recall him saying. If I'm wrong perhaps someone can correct me here, but anyway, it was a great place to have a couple drinks with a friend. Next is the drinks. I am personally a bourbon fan and the old fashioned the bartenders made me were perfect. That is something I just say. I have only been to a couple places that I'd say are perfectly done old fashioned's. The selection of bourbon was amazing. So good I ordered a single pour of something I'd never had but was recommended by the owner. The vibe was great, the staff was great as well. I think I went in there on a soft opening so it seemed like a couple things were still getting worked out but for great recipes and service, along with supporting something important, I can overlook a drink that took a couple minutes longer than usual to get to me. I was able to keep the Op Sek glass that my drink came in which I really appreciated and use regularly. There is a small room in the back that is perfect for a small group to hang out in and have some libations. Don't sleep on Op Sek. I went into the Legion next door after and it was very fun as well. Met some cool people on the way out. Op Sek will be in my rotation of places to grab drinks. read more

This spot popped up on my feed and with my love for speakeasy bars plus my husband being a veteran, we had to check it out. The bartender, Adrian, was helpful and quick with the drinks. It's at the front of the American legion with a big door to welcome you in. Once inside someone at the peephole was there, where a very important person lets you in... you'll know when you see it ;) Their most popular drink is a must. The tasting featured a great lineup of green and yellow Chartreuse paired with small bites. It concluded with a complementary Chartreuse-based cocktail from one of five recipes. Brand ambassador Taylor guided the event and began by telling us about the unique history of Chartreuse. The tasting started out with a small spoonful of Vegetal Elixir Chartreuse to warm up the palate. This is the base spirit of both green and yellow Chartreuse and clocks in at 138 proof. It was surprisingly not harsh, but immediately kicked my salivary glands into overdrive. I didn't even know that vintages of Chartreuse was a thing, but Taylor walked us through tasting three different vintages of both yellow and green Chartreuse, and it was surprising how different they were. The lineup concluded with more rare varietals of the green elixir 1605 and yellow cuvee. Great job, thanks Taylor! Chef Kling presented each small bite which included a crispy Icelandic cod, a roasted beet crostino, and a lamb slider. All of them had a five star list of ingredients and were delicious. Strong Water is known for their excellent cocktails, but their food is also great. For my cocktail at the end of the event, I had the Bar Flower (Green Chartreuse, Crème de Cacao, Pineapple, Lime). This was so good, with the herbal and chocolate flavors perfectly balanced. It was served with a flaming lime half. This was such a great event! Chartreuse retails for around $100 a bottle, and the higher-end varieties cost even more. At just $45 per person, this event was an amazing bargain. Strong Water frequently hosts great events, so keep an eye on their social media for upcoming dates. I really love Chartreuse, so I went back a few days later on the last day of Chartreuse week to try a few of the other limited time cocktails. I started out with their twist on a Grasshopper (Chartreuse, Crème de Menthe, Chili Liqueur, Crème de Cacao, Cream, Cane, $22). This was a great classic Grasshopper, but the Chartreuse added a herbal complexity, and there is a dash of heat on the finish from the chili liqueur. Next I had the Flare Gun (Yellow Chartreuse, Overproof Rum, Italian Bitter, Lime, Cane, $20). The yellow Chartreuse definitely comes through, but it's softer and has a light sweetness, unlike the green variety. Even though it contains overproof rum, it is perfectly balanced and not boozy at all. I usually don't like bitter drinks, but the bitterness was at a perfect light level. I finished off with the Tales from the Black Lagoon which is my favorite drink here, and it's also a favorite of many of the bartenders. All three cocktails were a home run. Chartreuse is an expensive spirit, so those drinks cost a little more than average. Shout out to Karen, Joey, Edgar, Jordan, and Ying for excellent hospitality, as always. Strong Water is our favorite place. We can't wait to go back!

Apparently she got kicked out and pepper sprayed at another bar for insulting the patrons based on their origin and culture. She was "on a good one." Our friends stepped away from the bar and joined the rest of us at the pool table when she starts throwing up gang signs saying not to mess with her. That's when I noticed she's covered in tattoos; face, neck, back, arms. We assure her we are minding our business and no one wants confrontation. She proceeds to tell us she's calling her brother to show us what's up. That was our sign to leave. We closed our tab after only 1 round, cleared the pool table and walked tf out. Apparently this is a normal occurrence because the bartenders didn't even intervene and the other patrons were unbothered. NEVER AGAIN! This woman throwing gang signs and threatening us must have worked there or she's a local because as we walked out, one of the workers was talking to her, saying "you can't be talking to patrons like that." Maybe this place was fun and poppin back in the day, but it definitely is NOT the fun 4 star dive bar you see here on Yelp. We were unsuspecting victims of Rush and live to tell the tale.

It is located in downtown Fullerton, next to the Les Amis Lebanese/Mediterranean restaurant. Look for the entrance on the west side of the building with a red entrance and Chapter 4 projection logo on the sidewalk. You can make a reservation on their website. We walked in and were greeted immediately. Seating options include tall chairs at the bar, low booths along the front wall across from the bar, and various tables in the main lounge area. All of the chairs look very comfortable. We sat in one of the booths across from the bar. It has a great vibe inside with a dark ceiling and walls, and is lit on the dimmer side. There was light lounge/soft jazz music playing when we visited. They also have live jazz music on some nights. A bowl of nuts, water, and menus arrived quickly. They have a great menu of house-curated cocktails, their spins on classic cocktails, and a large list of whiskeys and other spirits. They also have several food items on the menu. They have private liquor lockers available to store personal bottles for members Before I continue, I have to say that JC, one of the owners, who greeted us and was our server all evening, provided outstanding hospitality. While researching their bar menu online, we saw the cloud cocktail which had a very unique presentation with a burning ember cloud-like display. We came for my girlfriend's birthday, and she knew that would be her first drink. Unfortunately when we tried to order it, they were out of the gas for it. We noticed that the physical menu was a little different than the online menu. Apparently they had just changed the menu and had not updated the website yet. She wanted the Dirty Dill which wasn't on the new cocktail menu, but they were still able to make it. Dirty Dill (Gin, Vodka, Lemon, Pickle Juice, Olive Juice, Milk Washed & Clarified, $19). We could smell pickle on the nose, but when we took a sip, it was very boozy with little pickle or olive flavor. We asked if they could add some more pickle juice, and JC brought us a big shot glass of pickle juice so she could adjust it to her liking. She liked it once she added some more pickle juice. I started out with the Cococacaocoladaclara cocktail (Cacao-Infused Rum, Orange Liquor, Pineapple & Lime Juice, Coconut Milk Clarified, $18). This wasn't quite what I was expecting, and I had a hard time picking out the flavors. It was definitely strong and boozy. We were finishing our first round when we spotted JC walking towards our table with a cloud! He managed to find whatever it takes to make the effect, and we were very appreciative. I have seen a lot of presentations, and this was definitely a unique one. The birthday shot was very good, and he said the ingredients were mezcal, lavender, and lemon. Old Fashioneds have been growing on me lately. After the great presentation of the cloud, I had to try the Sinatra Old Fashioned (Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select, one dash of chocolate Bitters, $40). It is served in a rotating crystal glass, lit from underneath, with a clear ice sphere. Again, the presentation was great, and it was the smoothest old fashioned I've ever had. She had her eye on the Tuk Tuk for her second drink (Coconut Fat Washed Rum, Supasawa, Pandan Syrup, Mango Syrup, Rice Garnish, $18). She asked if it was very sweet, and he said that it was indeed quite sweet. Instead, she opted for the Firefox (Vodka, Pomegranate, Lemon, Vanila, Rose Liquor, Cherry Bitters, $18). Once again, this cocktail had a great presentation. It's served in a short, wide glass that sits perfectly on top of a piece of petrified-looking wood. You hold the glass with both hands and sip it like a bowl of soup. It was very balanced and smooth, with a nice tartness and light sweetness. JC stopped by again to check on our second round. A few minutes later he surprised us again, and returned with shot sized versions of the Tuk Tuk to sample. It was definitely on the sweeter side with good coconut and pandan flavor. We probably would have tried a third round, but we had dinner and a drink before coming here. Their menu of house-curated cocktails is impressive, and features many uncommon ingredients. We had a good time, but JC went the extra mile for us all night long and made it a great time. We will definitely return again.

For regular patrons, lockers are available to store your personal collection of spirits, so that you may enjoy your favorite brews in the atmosphere of Chapter 4. We visited right in time for their winter seasonal menu. The Candlelight Confession from this menu is delicious, and served with a torched marshmallow. From their signatures, I really enjoyed La Peligrosa, a tequila based cocktail that was floral and refreshing. My drink of choice recently, however, has been a Pornstar Martini. I asked the bartender if he could make one for me, and he just happened to have the ingredients necessary. So he did :) It was really good. I enjoyed myself so much on my first visit that I invited more of my friends to come the following Friday. There were 7 of us total. It was a tight squeeze, but they were able to fit us all at a table. I'm very grateful to the staff for accommodating us, but I definitely would recommend visiting with a smaller party. The way the embers danced was nothing short of magic. Removing the cloud revealed a wispy layer of smoke, which was both captivating and added depth to the drink. The rye whiskey was smooth and palatable, with a steady warmth as opposed to a harsh burn and flavored by cherry bitters. I don't usually drink darks, but this was very enjoyable. I also took the opportunity to sample the Démodé, Chapter 4's take on an Old Fashioned, garnished with an orange peel and a Luxardo cherry. Like the High Society, the whiskey was smooth and enjoyable to sip over time. I love Chapter 4. The drinks are palatable and interesting. The staff is welcoming and kind. The atmosphere is classy, yet laid back and cozy. In a downtown district filled with sports bars and pubs (which can be fun), Chapter 4 is my calm eye of the storm, a place to sit, relax, and enjoy the night with well crafted drinks and conversation.
