My long and damaged hair needed a makeover and I decided to do my hair yesterday. I live in Queens, NY and visit my boyfriend in Leonia, NJ where there are so many salon options in the neighborhood. Usually, I'm not brave enough to try haircut and perm at a new salon since the hairdressers or stylists aren't familiar with my preference yet. However, I walked by Coco many times and was curious to try. Julie talked me through the options of perming my hair and consulted which one would be best to avoid damaging. I went with Lovely Magic perm which was the C-curl type. Coming from Asia, I find it difficult to find the variety of perm options in the US and usually just do digital perm which can damage your hair. The last time I did C-curl perm was about 10 years ago, so I was very happy that this option was offered here. Although the hairstyle did not come out exactly as what I wanted, I still liked it and found it easy to explore different styles with this perm. Julie and her staffs did a great job! I highly recommend the salon. For the color and perm, I would suggest to discuss on timing in case you may not have capacity. I usually have a swamped schedule and therefore, only do hair once a year or 2 years. I didn't realize it'd take me 4 hours with cut, color and perm but luckily, I had time yesterday and was determined to get it done. The perm did take a little longer than my previous experience, but it was worth it since I loved how smooth and shiny my hair was. read more

While they are friendly, I am concerned about the chemicals that they use. In November I colored my hair and the color was bleeding for the next month, until the Christmas and the NYE. I have colored my hair many times before but never experienced where the color was still bleeding for so long. I gave them one more try and did keratin, and Julie suggested the treatment that was NOT formaldehyde-free. I showered after two days and my eyes were sore from the fumes of my hair... I am worried about the chemical that they use especially given the previous experience with their hair color bleeding for a month. read more

AN OVER DUE REVIEW!! I've been wanting to bleach my hair for THE longest time so I came here. Mind you, I've gotten my hair cut from the owner from their previous location so it was easy for me to place my trust in them for my hair. My scalp is also super sensitive, meaning any dye or over bleaching could cause me to burst out into hives. And the moment I stepped in, I was the only one there for my appointment. I noticed that they spaced the time in between and it was super clean, sterile, and nicely air conditioned because that day was really hot and humid. I was there for 3 hours, but while they lifted the color off of my hair, I felt no burning or itching. I wanted a pink but she gave me this super-super cute metallic pink!
