Deceptive Pricing: $14.99 steak fajita salad in menu was smallest entrée salad I have ever been served. Portion was approximately 6" diameter by 3" deep with 2 ounces (MAX) of meat. When bill arrived, the charge was $16.99. Server explained that there is a note on the entry door that states the due to COVID the owner has raised prices by $2.00 for fajita items, and that it was too expensive to reprint the menus. I wanted to show my appreciation to take a handyman that did a remarkable job. i was so embarrassed first of the quality of his ordering a combo dinner plate. Rolled up enchiladas in tomatoe sauce, wet burrito in same sauce. He asked if he could ask waitress to take his plate back I said yes because I wouldnt eat it. Waitress was very understanding she told us she didn't like it either because her dad makes the real enchilada sauce. What bothered me, the owner or asst manager didn't come by to say sorry or something. On our way out, I seen a manager dressed better which told me he was the man. He spoke with a heavy accent so I spoke Spanish to him and said it would of been nice to come over and see why he didn't except the food. I told him thats not enchilada sauce, his reply " that's the way white people like it". I was ashamed I even took my friend there! Empty parking lot should have been a red flag. Salsa was good, chips were stale. We ordered steak fajitas for 2, ($33 ) the sizzling platter that arrived was mounded with onions and green peppers, and a couple slices of tomatoes. Some of the vegetables weren't cooked at all. The mystery meat amounted to about 1/2 lb. of beef, it was a challenge to dig out any meat to put on our tortillas. Then the bill comes and the fajitas are $42... Friendly staff, food is always hot and delicious. I ordered the seafood chimichanga which was excellent. Food came fast! It came with cheesy rice, guacamole and refried beans and shredded lettuce. Every morsel was fresh with flavor and outstanding. My margarita was also excellent as usual. I love this place. Dang, I'm sad to leave a negative review because we honestly enjoy the food. We always order take-out, and do so about once a month. I'm not kidding, EVERY single time we have to go back out to pick up an item they forgot to include. One time it was the guacamole, several times they lied about tomatillo sauce: saying it didn't come with the meal (it does),, telling us they were out (not true), saying they only include it if you ask specifically because it's really spicy (even though it comes with the meal), to giving regular salsa to my husband and saying it was tomatillo. It's always something different. When we ordered last month, the manager refused to do anything about the fact we had to go out a second time, but instead told us to call the order in next time and apologized. He said they were under new management and they were still working out the kinks. We gave them another shot tonight, and this time there were no rice and beans. It's thunder storming, but the person answering our call gave us nothing more than a "I'll talk to the girl who took the order because she did it wrong". No refund, no comp, nothing. We will apparently get a phone call tomorrow from the manager. Edit: Changed to one-star. My husband called the restaurant. They basically accused us of lying and said they KNEW the food was in the bag and told us "we can comp you the meal and then you never have to order from us again". Trust us, we won't. read more

I guess if you live in Shields or Hemloack and don't want to drive all the way to Bay Road for Los Quators or El Mexicano, go here. You'll look at the menu and taste the food and wonder if you're at either of those two places. Basically a generic Mexican place with mediocre food, a few standouts on the menu - chile rellano, chicken chimichanga. Stay away from anything actually Mexican like the chicken mole or enchilidas. The buffet is always missing food and the staff is bewildered when you ask for extra tortillas. Which, like the other restaurants in town, refuse to serve a home-made flour tortilla. Instead you get the same soapy-tasting excuse for a tortilla as you can buy at Wal-mart. read more

So, it was no big whoop that the server didn't bring tortillas with our fajitas. What was a medium whoop was that when my friend went to the waitress station to nicely ask for them after five minutes, the server was kind of eye rolly and acted like we should have known she was bringing them out shortly. Uh, you dropped our food off and said, "Enjoy!" and walked away with no reference to the MIA tortillas. How did we know delivery was pending? We do not have tortilla-specific ESP. I placed and paid for an order online so I could just go in and pick up the food and get right out, which I did after I signed the receipt and left a small tip (which I don't always do for pickup orders). I didn't think anything of it until the next day I noticed my account was being debited twice for the amount I paid online (without a tip) and that same amount again plus the tip I signed for in the restaurant. Things happen, not a big deal, except the fact I called the next day after realizing what happened, and the two staff members I spoke with were both helpful but were a little nonchalant about who and when (and sort of like, if) someone would call me back. Though mistakes can happen and there are additional stresses added by the pandemic, I do expect a phone call back by a responsible management team from one of their many locations in a reasonable time, since I believe they are owned by the same group or person(s). This did not happen. I'm hopeful to receive a call today by one of the two names I received from staff yesterday before I begin to look into next steps. On a more positive note the food was amazing. It was a little pricey and it wasn't just because I paid over $120 for 4 items, but because if you do the math for what I should've been charged, it equals about $15 an entree. It hurts to think I've been charged double that and paid $30 an entree and no one is responsive. If all things went well I would have given: 4 stars for the food 3 stars for pricing The 1 star is based on problem resolution (because it's still a problem). Will update when resolved. Update: Called Bay rd. Location and spoke with an awesome manager who actually works at the Gratiot location but was filling in there. I have to give 2 stars because the prices are over the moon. They seem to keep going up. Mexican food is so inexpensive to prepare that such prices are not justified. My family and I will not be back and we used to frequent both Coco Loco locations. The owner has gotten money hungry rather than making it feasible for a family to dine at. Well the food was ok but service was extremely slow. We were seated in a decent timeframe but the rest of the visit was slow. No offer for refills on our drinks. We ran out of chips and salsa and had to ask. Once we did that took a long time. We had to ask for silverware and I have no idea if she had to rewash a set but again that was slow and our food had already arrived. We asked for our bill and we can see her getting others orders and making drinks at the bar... finally got our bill. The whole visit was ridiculously slow. It was not busy either. I was so excited when this place opened last summer! Finally good Mexican food without going across town! Their chips and salsa are great and you have got to get the Chicken Chimichanga... also, the La Bonta is great. The review about this place being pricey is ridiculous... my fiance and I can eat there for $20 plus a tip. Half priced beers and margaritas after 8pm! I cannot say enough about this place. Service is excellent and their lunch buffet is killer. We go a few times a week! read more

Took forever to just order our drinks, then we waited while others that arrived after us received their food. our waitress never came back until our food was done, so no drink refills or chips when the basket was empty. Then she dropped off 3 of the 4 dinners we ordered and disappeared again. I tracked down a manager in order to get the last meal and that took another 15 minutes. then it was warm, not hot. the waitress didn't come back until we were almost done to refill our drinks and offer chips. by then, we just wanted to leave. I ordered shrimp enchiladas and received a plate full of rice, three soggy tortillas with 4 shrimp in each and cheese sauce over the top. that was it, nothing else in the tortillas or on the plate. when I questioned the manager, he told me that is all that is in an enchilada and offered to reduce the price by 10%. bottom line, the food was bad, over priced and the service sucked. Got sat at a table right away. It was Mother's Day but the place wasn't busy. Waited 5-7 mins for server to contact us. Waited another 5 minutes for an horchata and a beer. Our order was finally taken and we waited another 50 minutes for our food to finally come out. The bartender came over about 40 minutes into our wait and said that there was a big take out order that they were working on. We were about to ask if we could just pay for our drinks and leave but just as I asked, our food came out. I work as a bartender and server and there's no reason for something to not have been done as compensation. More reason for me to not go to another "Mexican" restaurant in Saginaw, MI. read more
