Roasted Potatoes
Dan A.

Stopped here with a friend to pickup some of their famous Roasted Chicken. Smaller spot with counter service and High top tables. He recalls coming here before going out for a good and hearty meal on the cheap. We ordered a whole roasted chicken with a side of roasted potatoes and cole slaw. Chicken was seasoned and roasted perfectly and had a slight spicy kick to it. Sides were both excellent-especially since I'm not big on Cole Slaw and enjoyed it. They do have Poutine as well Roasted Pork and Portuguese Sausage. Also saw they offer the famous Pasteis de Nata for dessert -next time. Simple and reasonably priced. We will be back!

Came to Coco Rico when visiting Montreal 13 years ago and had to come back for the potatoes! This place is overlooked because it is next door to the popular Schwartz's Deli. However, don't sleep on it! There are a lot of chicken places in Montreal. I cannot say this is the best (just haven't tried that many in the area), but it is a very good one on the outskirts of Little Portugal. The roasted potatoes with the flavor of chicken drippings are excellent and a great alternative to the ubiquitous fries that usually come with Portuguese chicken. This chicken is roasted, not grilled and plenty tasty. I had mine with spicy sauce which was just mildly spicy. Lastly, the natas here are quite good - they certainly remind me of those in Portugal with a very flaky crust and good egg filling. Service is counter service - easy and quick enough. Order in French or English - either is fine. You will get your meal quickly and for a very fair price. They even have a nice terrace to sit and eat next to the building. For me, a solid four star quick meal that is easy on the wallet.

We ordered through Ubereats. The potatoes were delicious and the stars of the meal, but it's never a good sign when the restaurant's staple isn't the standout. Chicken was dry and really needed some more seasoning or at least more salt. French fries were ok, salad was fine, macaroni salad was sad, noodles were over cooked and the dressing was too sweet for me. I was disappointed that they didn't include utensils for a family meal. Pasteis de nata were fine, too much vanilla. Overall, it was ok.

Roast chicken and egg tart

The food is absolutely terrible! The worst roast chicken and egg tarts I've ever had in my life! Even the chicken legs were dry and flavorless. The egg tarts were just looked like normal egg tarts but actually had insanely sweet custard in it. We wanted to eat there but was told "you can't eat in if bought the whole chicken instead of the 1/2 chicken ". We were not told of the rule in advance and it just didn't make sense???? I suspect this is an act of racism as my friends are of asian descent. A word of advice, don't ever go to this place!

This is a counter-serve restaurant with limited indoor counter seating with stools, and a small terrasse for outdoor dining during the warmer months. I really enjoyed the terrasse here because of all the painted street art on the neighbouring buildings. *Chicken: We ordered a half chicken to go. It came in a bag and wasn't cut up, so you have to be adventurous and be okay using your hands. It was SO JUICY, and the marinade was just right, not overly salty, and not lacking in flavor. *Pork poutine: So this poutine is topped not with pulled pork / BBQ pork, but it seemed more like marinated roast pork. It made for a nicely balanced take on poutine, to contrast with the salty gravy and squeaky cheese curds. *Pastel de nata: These come out at a nice temperature, straight from the warmer. The pastry puff crust is thick yet light and crumbly at the same time. The custard is really well balanced, not overly sweet or heavy, and made the tart really easy to eat. Keep in mind there's a small discount if you order six. I haven't eaten at any of Montreal's other Portuguese rotisserie chicken places but I can say that Coco Rico definitely hits right.

Nata is a must try!

I really enjoyed my last meal in Montreal this morning. The chicken was tender and the taste was just right. Not bland, not too flavorful. The Nata tastes very close to Nata Manteigaria, the one I had in Portugal. Nata is a must try! The lady at the cashier is the nicest. Will definitely come back here!

Zero stars.I ordered roast potatoes and chicken sandwich. What I got ended my loving the food from here.My whole order came "COLD" and the chicken sandwich was slyly filled with "BOILED CHICKEN SKIN" instead of chicken meat Boiled chicken skin is disgusting I got sick. Really "CHEAP" service by this restaurant.I was a loyal patron now "NO MORE".!!! At this restaurant order with extreme caution and prejudice!

Cute place to grab a quick bite! Friendly staff and quick service. I really enjoyed the potatoes, it was garlicky, flavorful, and hearty. The poutine was a poutine and I didn't think it was anything special. We also got the chicken sandwich which I found a little too dry - I think it would be really good with extra sauce!

Everyone has their favourite places in town for Portuguese chicken. We decided to give Coco Rico a shot after picking up some groceries. It's next door to Schwartz's. The menu is up behind the counter: roasted potato, roasted chicken, pork ribs, chicken wings, sandwiches, super plate specials and combos. - Spicy half chicken ($6.29) - we were making dinner at home so we grabbed half a chicken as our protein. Wasn't spicy at all but it sure was greasy. Meat was dry and overcooked. Sadly, this wasn't close to real Portuguese chicken. - 2x Natas ($1.50 each) - always need to try the natas. These weren't flaky or creamy. Instead, it was almost too sweet. Not up to par. Don't get how this place is so highly rated. Put the extra effort in and walk/BIXI to the other Portuguese places on rue Rachel. You'll be much more satisfied.

Half chicken with roasted potatoes

Great chicken! Rotisserie, perfectly cooked, that and potatoes or fries, with some side salads is what they do, and they do it well. Right next to Swartz's deli with their line out the door. Sure Swartz is a Montreal spot, but I pick coco chicken every time. Perfectly seasoned. They rotisserie their chicken over the potatoes, so can't recommend to roasted potatoes enough. Fast, efficient and polite staff keep the line moving.

1 Flew Over the Coco's Nest. In the heart of The Plateau, Coco Rico is another great Portuguese chicken joint. Parking is not happening. Service was helpful & Jacky loves it when the staff recommends their best. On the menu: Jacky had the "Rotisserary" chicken with fries & a pork sandwich. The chicken had a crispy outside & an oh so juicy inside! The pork was moist & the fries had a nice crunch & kick to them. It was all delish! Price is good; there's some bang for that cluck! The decor is dated but Jacky don't care & nor should you. Just go and ask for the bird. Follow @JackyEatsMTL

Pretty standard Peruvian chicken spot. They are one notch above as their chickens are cooked over charcoal.

Very good chicken sandwiches, super tasty and tender. Not dry... They give a crap ton of potatoes. Too much honestly.

Honestly, the only reason it's not a 5-star is because the line is always insane and it gets super crowded inside, but the food low-key makes up for it. Def a must-try in Montreal!

We visited this place because we just had to try poutine and heard it was fabulous here…read more That is true, and you'll be sure after 1st bite.. Great fries, with chorizo + bits of chicken, good amount of cheese curds and finally smothered w/gravy. I thought the gravy might be an afterthought/not interesting- but no, it was delicious. You walk in the door and all you smell is chicken grilling+ chargrilled goodness. They offer a1/2chicken w/salad+ fries. Since we were ordering the poutine we didn't want those extra sides; we just ordered whole chicken. They'll ask, spicy or not? We got 'spicy' -basically the orange sauce in pics. It's not at all 'spicy hot' -but tastes garlicky, rich and delicious. Great choice. Chicken is Portuguese style; with a chargrilled taste, very juicy and well seasoned. Talked to several people who were near us eating about how great the food was, and found out that like us, several of them were out of towners who'd asked a local "where to eat" in town. Every single person was raving about how delicious it all was. This place is the Bomb! Absolutely a 'Do Not miss' in Montreal. The small poutine we ordered was huge! And the large sized poutine others bought was size of a ham on the large plate. Even with 2 hungry people and my Hubbie is a big dude, we brought almost 1/2 of our food home to finish the next day. Not bad for $34+ tax. PS One pic is from neighboring table's plate- the guy said "Please do take a picture. What a find! I can't believe this place".

Thank god I found it because one large chicken + chorizo poutine can feed my hungry wife and I and we even have leftovers! The fries are fresh, crispy, and the gravy is made with drippings of their own rotating rotisserie chicken. The chorizo sausage is barbecued to perfection. Did I mention they give you a lot of food for the price!? They also have a beautiful bakery with Bolas, strawberry cheesecake, and other fresh-made bakery items. They also have great service, with friendly cashiers, and the quality of food is 6 out of 5 stars. It's my favorite place and I come here almost once a week. They are passionate about their food and generous, and if you don't feel like paying up-the-arse for delicious Portuguese chicken Romados is the place for you. It's homey, they have spicy and mild Piri Piri sauce to choose from, the fries are tasty but not too salty, Chicken Salad is really delicious, and furthermore, they have family options, rice, potatoes, and you can order a half or quarter chicken, as well as other options like soup and barbecue pork (also very good). Thank you Romados!

The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

It starts with the parking out back, which is about 10 spots immediately adjacent to the rear of the restaurant. Parking there is only for restaurant patrons but there is usually parking on Rue St-Laurent, a most happening of places. The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type. Many highs include the unique drinks menu and the happy staff whose attitude make you want to go straight to Portugal, a famously idealized land & people, appropriately so. Salud!
