Now, they only make it on the weekend and it is square. I am guessing that the square vs. round is easier and quicker to make. It does change the texture of the pastry. I needed a cake for my bestie's wedding. I sent her to scout the place, and she could not stop raving about the croissants. So, the next day, we had breakfast on a Sunday morning, so I could sample and order the cake. The bride-and-groom-to-be had quiche - delectable! My sister and I had a tarts, which were terrific. I took home a box of butter cookies and was going to share with the family, but they were too good to share. I love a good butter cookie! The cake was three different layers: one chocolate w/chocolate mousse filing. OMG! So yummy. One layer was vanilla w/strawberry filing. Devine. The "Bride's layer" was chocolate w/fresh raspberries! I wanted to try this little restaurant for a while so Sandi and I stopped in for coffee and dessert. The store reminds me of an equivalent of a toy store for food. I chose a chocolate mousse decorated with a snow man, raspberry and what looked like a snow covered field. Sandi chose a chocolate cake covered with coconut and whipped cream. I wanted to love this place so much. The food we ordered was very good. The service was the worst. The girl up front with the black hair and glasses was very rude. She clearly wanted to get off work because it was 12:40 and she advised they close at 1 pm as soon as we walked in the door. She was very unhelpful and rude while we waited to take our food to go because we felt uncomfortable to eat there. I've been here over 1/2 a dozen times and I'll have to say my favorite thing here is the apricot pistachio tart. I prefer their breakast items (apple / pear tarts, danish, and crossiants) much more than their desserts. The mini desserts and indiv. cakes are beautifully decorated and pricey but don't taste as good as they look. We used cocoa bean for our wedding and the cake we received was awful and looked nothing like what we discussed with the baker. The baker told us she was sick the week of our wedding and she never looked back at our photo to confirm what we wanted and the colors and that she normally would have called us to confirm what we wanted but since she was sick she didn't. In our initial meeting I said if she wasn't able to do the design we wanted we would be okay with a white cake but she assured me she could do it. Our cake photos from our wedding are ruined. The owner offered us $50 to compensate us for the terrible job they did after we paid almost $700 for the cake. This place is a scam!! Do not trust them for any event you have planned. The two photos below are what was discussed & requested and what was received. It is not expected to receive a spitting image of the inspiration, however these two cakes couldn't be any more different. The lack of detail is one thing but the colors aren't even close to each other. How can a baker turn a blind eye to such important details, especially for such an important event. After bringing it to the shops attention, the response was rude and very much lacking professionalism. Well I hate to even do this because it has been a tradition to order from here every Christmas, we order our birthday cakes from here and it's been one of my favorites for a cheat treat since the first time I had their almond croissant. This year I placed my order on 12/14 to pick up 12/22. When I went to pick up the order I was told there was no record of my order, other than the credit card charge that was processed on 12/15. After the owner explains this to me, he says "well what do you want me to do for you?" My response was, "What can you do for me? Do you have any pies?" I receive a blank stare and half laughing "nope". After that, I simply responded "I guess just my refund please". He says nothing, turns around and walks to the back room and sends out another employee who also says nothing else to me except asking for the credit card that was used for the charge and a "here's a receipt showing the refund". I understand mistakes happen, especially during the busy holiday season. But how you handle mistakes says a lot more about you and your business. I wasn't even offered the croissants that were on my order and really didn't think I should have had to ask for them. Sadly I won't be doing business here again. read more

I would highly recommend the following if you have no idea what to try: * French Macaroons-my favorite is raspberry; I've tried chocolate and strawberry as well. Coco bean has the best Macaroons I've ever tried yet. *Rugelach-another one of my favorite pastries that CocoBean provides. All of the flavors are great. *Chocolate Croissant-theirs won't disappoint at all...It is amazing & very fresh/flaky/Soft. * Almond Croissant-is perfect. I'm not a huge almond lover, but this croissant is very tasty & like the chocolate croissant are flaky, which to me is the best. *Quiche- they are all savory and fantastic. You do pay quite a bit for a small quiche "pie" but it's worth it to me at least. Let's just say I've had a bit of almost everything at this place and I've enjoyed CocoBean every time I've visited. I reconnected with a childhood friend recently who lives in Geneva. Last week we met at Cocoa Bean for what she described as " the best almond croissants" around. Happy to report she was correct. I ate the croissant while we were at Cocoa Bean and forgot to take a photo. I brought the chocolate Creme Brûlée tart home and it was amazing! The staff needs to be mentioned too. Both people manning the front counter treated us like friends. When they found out we were eating in, they asked us if we wanted real plates and silverware. They also heated our croissants which added to the just baked flavor- flaky, crispy layers of buttery dough and melted gooey chocolate. I told them I was from Glen Ellyn (30 minutes away) and the delicious bakery items and service made this my new favorite place! Can't wait to go back. A cute little patisserie in Geneva. The cakes were beautiful to look at, but they weren't that good to eat. The passion fruit cake had a tough crust that was difficult to get around, and the flavors, while there, didn't blend well to create a top-notch pastry. I stepped in this week and didn't try anything new because my favorite items were still available. I love their minis!!! It's a bite size but yet it's perfectly made with balanced flavors. I love key lime and lemon tart, it's a must if you are a fan of lemon/lime or key lime pie. But my top choice is the passion fruit cup with a raspberry on the top. Perfect. One word! The white cake has vanilla cake and lemon on the top, it's soft and flavorful; however their cake body itself was a bit dry so it wasn't as good as I remember. They also made bigger size cakes and wedding cakes too. I never tried those bigger sizes ones because smaller sizes are such a treasure for me! They're pastries next to the cake section is good too! I stopped here for coffee before the drive to Arlington Park. They have great espresso coffee drink options, a huge flavor station, and a nice presentation of desserts. I couldn't leave with just a latte. I bought a piece of carrot cake. It was delicious. The only problem, I wish there were more of it. Service was great, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would love to get the bakery good all the time but the hour of business are crazy and staff is incompetent and rude.

The cake itself was very good, the customer service was horrible. I placed a custom cake order for our daughters sweet 16 and provided a photo of exactly what I wanted and a custom cake topper. We discussed the order for over 30 minutes and the woman at the counter (who was very nice) wrote down everything, including that raspberries were to be put on the top of the cake, not strawberries, daughter doesn't like strawberries. The cake had a raspberry meringue, so raspberries on top being the logical choice anyway. My husband picked up the cake. It was pretty, not arranged at all how we discussed, but that wasn't a big deal. The issue was, they put strawberries on the cake, no raspberries and the custom cake topper wasn't with it. I called about the cake topper and was very rudely told I didn't give them one. I replied, yes I did. The man said, no you didn't who did you talk to? I said, I don't remember her name, but she had an accent. He replied, we don't have anyone here that has an accent & we have no topper. Oh wait, did she have an English accent? I said yes, my husband is on his way to get the topper. They located it and he sent someone else to the door to hand it to my husband. I'm giving it 3 stars, because the cake really was very good, but for what we paid for it, I expected it to be exactly what we wanted and not to not be accused of lying. Cocoa Bean was the cake vendor for our wedding at Cantigny and was part of our overall package. I made an appointment for a required testing. On the day of, we were on our way when I received a voicemail asking where we were. I called back and the guy I talked to didn't really have a solution as to what to do or how the time got messed up. It was probably my fault, but I would have liked some kind of guidance instead of me having to figure out what to do. In the end, we decided I could still come in at the time I thought it was. Geneva is faaaaarr, but the town is kinda cute. The bakery itself is very nice. Lots of pastries if you feel like stopping by for a treat. We sat at a table and then met with the woman in charge of our cake. She brought out some samples of what we could get. We really liked the vanilla bean and the chocolate. So decadent. She also showed us some design samples. Once again, I had no idea what I wanted, so I was up for anything. I saw a pretty design with ribbon around the tiers and flowers on top and thought that would be great. She told me the width of ribbon I would need and said I could mail it over once I had it, and that she would be in contact with our florist for the topper. We ended up choosing two flavors/frosting for our cake, which was an additional charge, but its based on how many people you have, so it was only like $40 extra. I think it was worth it since you never know what people want. Fast forward to the wedding: our cake was beautiful and we got rave reviews on the taste. I was super nervous, since my best friend said she's had some pretty bad wedding cake in her experience, but everyone absolutely loved it. They said it was the best cake they ever had. I have to agree that it was sooo good. I had people taking extras! Even though they were the vendor for Cantigny, if you have the option of picking a vendor, I'd highly recommend Cocoa Bean.
