    Strawberry Danish Sweet Roll
    Kathleen L.

This bakery is located on Larkin Ave next to a gas station. We happened to be driving by and just had to stop in and check it out. Call ahead to check the hours because Yelp says they were closed at noon and it is almost 1pm and they were still open and I am so glad they were! We ended up leaving with 2 peanut butter cookies, 1 sugar cookie and 2 strawberry danish sweet rolls. They were so delicious and very affordable! The strawberry filling on the Danish Sweet Roll was made with real strawberries it was so fresh and delicious. (They also had them available with lemon filling.) We will be back again when we're in the area for sure. I recommend you stop by and check this place out when your in the area!

Horrible danish. Was very heavy. I is like a piece of thick bread. To me that is not a danish. Last time I was there it wasn't like that. If you change your recipe, you really should go back to the original. Counter girl, not pleasant at all. You're gonna go down and down fast. 5/14/2024

Herb's has been here in Elgin for years and I am kicking myself for not trying it sooner. We stopped by on a Saturday early afternoon. As expected of a high quality, independant bakery, their lower cases were filled with a huge assortment of delectable cookies, a great variety of cakes and danish, and a few kringle (my goal of going there). Their bread racks were almost depleted by the time we got there which is a great indication of their quality breads. We purchased a couple of mouse ears which were absolutey decadent. We also purchased a cherry kringle. I had initially some reservations as their kringle is different than the "gold standard" which is O&H in Racine, WI. I'm glad I didn't succomb to my initial reaction because this kringle was flipping delicious. If you get a chance, go get something from them that catches your eye. From my first experience there, your selection will taste even better than it looks. And their product looks very good to begin with. My next investigation is their different breads. Obviously I'll either have to order ahead or get there much earlier.

Apricot and Cheese Kringle (5 stars)

This is my fourth time trying Herb's and I finally had to write a review. There are a number of great bakeries in the area and Herb's is one of them. This trip I picked up a pre-ordered apricot and cheese kringle. The dough is slightly flaky and similar to a danish. The apricot filling is light and smooth while the cheese is creamy. The two textures and flavors play off each other well. I appreciate that the glaze is on the lighter side and does not heavily coat the pastry. If you happen not to eat it quickly, the pastry lasts well for at least two days. I'm surprised if it lasts that long in our house. On other trips I've tried the almond kringle, lemon danish and donuts, all of which were equally delicious. Herb's, thanks for providing great pastries to the community.

This is my boyfriends place to get his favorite donuts. I've never been here. But I did pre order to get his maple nut danishes today since they were out yesterday. I went after work and got there at 7:20am and they were sold out of them. They open at 6. When I picked them up today, I decided to try their cheese danish and cinnamon danish. When I got home, and I cut the cheese danish in half, I saw there was a hair in the middle, right where I was cutting it. It grossed me out. It was long, black and thicker like it was from a beard. I'll let my boyfriend continue to eat his favorite donuts from here. That hair just ruined it for me. For a place that has a lot of high reviews from local people, I'm questioning if they even enforce beard nets when preparing and making these pastries.... All the people there are nice and the presentation of the box is all there but unfortunately that's where the star goes to. I wanted to go back to try the other pastries. Especially the pretzel but I'm too scared now lol

I ordered a cake for my son's graduation and while the cake tasted ok the decorations and writing were horrible. It looks like a child wrote it and letters and words were missing. When asked if they could fix it I was told the person that does writing was not there. I contacted them again and never heard back and they never offered money back or a discount.

    1st birthday Cake

Loved this bakery! I was in need of a birthday cake for my son the next day and they were able to get me in. The cake was sooo delicious! So glad I came across their bakery. I only requested something very simple seeing as my son turned one. But again, so thankful I found this bakery. Highly recommend.

Fear not, Sweets by Kash to the rescue!!! I called Lindsey up about 3.5 months out from our wedding date and explained everything. She did say that was not her specialty, but man she hit it out of the park! We were having a small wedding and wanted to have cheesecake as our "cake". We already had a sweets table and wanted to beef up the options for guests, as well as pay homage to our first date. Our first date was at the Cheesecake Factory and we thought it would be perfect for us. It was easy to set up a tasting. We chose to pick up the cheesecake from Lindsey and have a little date night at home and test it all out. The packaging was super cute and the decorations on top were beautiful. But the flavors, WOW! I think cheesecake is so underrated. It's rich and creamy and is such a great dessert. We devoured the tasting cheesecake in a few days LOL. Honestly, with how simple everything was to set up and get answers to our questions immediately, I knew we had someone good. But the flavors, MMMMMMMMM!!! We didn't even finish an entire piece and I knew Lindsey was the baker for us. We love to support local businesses as well, so in the end everything worked out. So we booked Sweets by Kash and had her deliver to our venue and set up the cheesecake for us. They were all so beautiful and we got so many compliments on the taste. We ordered chocolate chip cheesecake and Oreo, as well as a gluten free chocolate chip cheesecake. Our GF guests really appreciated being able to eat a dessert in its entirety and said it was outstanding. We opted to save the top so we could enjoy that deliciousness all weekend, but someone walked away with it sadly. I will absolutely placing an order so we can celebrate our wedding anniversary with our special cheesecake (and no, I will not be waiting an entire year, because that cheesecake is too dang good to wait!). Thank you Lindsey for being amazing to work with and I don't have the professional photos back yet, but if you zoom in on this one, you can see the lovely set up in the background.

Kari's Rating 9.9/10…read more TLDR: -Seriously my favorite bakery ever and I'm a bakery connoisseur -The flakiest most delicious pastries -Handcrafted sweets and made to order cakes This is my absolute favorite bakery to go to when I am home in Barrington. I've been coming to ambrosia for at least 20 years since my childhood, and this bakery never disappoints. The only reason it didn't get a 10 out of 10 was because sometimes they're closed on days when I need them open, and I find myself to be extremely disappointed I forgot to read the website! Of course error on my side! I remember coming here before I was tall enough to peep over the pastry case, and I've always been so fascinated by the little show window where they have cake decorating or someone demonstrating how to roll pastries-what an art! My number one pastry that I come here for is the ham and cheese croissant. Ambrosia's ham and cheese croissant is the flakiest most savory ham and cheese croissant I've ever had. They don't add any mustard or gimmicks and yet it is so flaky and savory that it doesn't need an extra dash of flavor. I know for a while they were making them smaller, but this time I came, I realized that the ham and cheese croissants are bigger than ever-which probably makes me think they've gone up in price, but I will happily pay the up charge for a little more. Now that I am older, and I have adult money, I find myself going in and trying one new item to add to my repertoire of treats. Today's new addition was the almond Bear-claw which I already had extremely high hopes for because I do love a good almond croissant, but I was a little worried what bear-claw meant. Truthfully, it just meant the shape of the pastry as it still had the classic buttery flaky crust, as well as a sweet almond interior. I was not disappointed! I did end up bringing home four ham and cheese croissants, an ambrosia roll for my dad, the almond Bear-claw, and two freshly made baguettes. I come home relatively frequently, but every time this bakery is added to my morning agenda, I realize I have such few moments left with my family, and I want to cherish them all and I love that ambrosia has been that tradition for us. I feel like most bakeries I go into in the city are mass produced and everyone is just trying to place orders and then rushing to get out the door, but ambrosia the workers really try to make you feel seen and have a way to uplifting conversation with you. Through all of the order, placing chaos, they're willing to explain what's in everything, what's new on the menu or what flavor profile would go with which handcrafted drink. There's a certain side of human conversation to this bakery that makes this visit extra special for me. I can sense everything is made overnight and then baked in the morning, so as soon as you walk in, you can smell an overwhelming bakery scent, which only makes your mouth water more, which I'm starting to think is actually a really strategic sales tactic! Haha! I would never miss a chance coming back here and spending time my parents and picking up a few surprise treat for them. I will keep the tradition of picking up a few extra treats as I would love for this bakery to continue being something my whole family can look forward to whenever I come home

We also picked up some almond croissants and chocolate croissants and both were delish... to me they were a bit on the smaller side though. The cafe is really cute and clean with a sitting area. We came an hour before closing, so options were limited but they do have a big display case and would love to go back and check out what else they have to offer. I am a fan of flourless cake- so hoping to get to try a slice the next visit.
