I've been going to this place for years. I ordered some rolls, and they were delicious; however, I don't know what the deal is here. Since COVID, they are closed to the public. You can't go in and browse, you have to call and place your order ahead of time. Furthermore, when I went to pick up my order - they had a baby gate blocking off the entrance. People on Facebook have been asking about when they're opening back up like normal, and the comments mysteriously disappear. Unfortunately, I think the decision to operate this way is going to have bad results. Honestly though, I won't go back because this is just so unfriendly to customers. Also, their prices have gone up and I think they're overpriced now. It's sad, because I really did used to love this place. No more business from me. :( read more

A+ job to Heidi's Cake & Pastry. I spent nearly an hour calling around on a Tuesday morning frantically searching for a Black Forest Cake. It was for a birthday and Black Forest is the birthday boy's favorite. Every place I called around to either said no, we don't make black forest or told me they need 24, 48, or a week's notice!! I was about to give up and just get a chocolate-something-or-another from the grocery store when Heidi came through. She offered to make a traditional two-tier Black Forest cake for me and have it ready in an hour and a half. It looked gorgeous, seriously, and tasted divine. She was a true life saver and with a wonderful product! I can't recommend Heidi's enough! Thank you, Heidi!!! read more

This place is such a hidden gem!!! SO happy I found Heidi's, because I needed a go-to bakery. I've had their cookies, coffee cake, doughnuts and cinnamon rolls....all were incredible! So fresh tasting. The doughnuts are some of the best I've ever had, and that says a lot because i travel the U.S. in search of good doughnut shops haha The staff are super kind, and the prices are very reasonable. This place used to be my very favorite place. I am so sad to see that it has slipped so badly. You can no longer go into the bakery, but have to call from your car and order, and then wait while reading all the signs about wearing a mask and 6-foot distancing when you go to the door to pay. No, I'm not kidding. (The CDC themselves published a long time ago that masks don't work, and literally no one is requiring them anymore.) Needless to say, I didn't wear one. Paying at the door is also awkward. Unfortunately, they didn't have the pastries I wanted in stock, and even then, I ordered 2 different pastries and one of them was not what I ordered (sadly, I ordered one apple and one cheese ... and one of them I got was cherry which I'm allergic to), so half my purchase was a waste. If you're going to have a model like this at least get the order right. The women in my group no longer go there because of the sheer inconvenience. We all would love to come back here again, but you need to change back to a normal business model or none of us will be returning. Please change back .... we loved Heidi's the way it used to be!!!! So I went in after seeing the pretty good reviews on yelp I was excited to see goodies and treats. I was looking for yummy cookies as a little thank you gifts to some people. I went in and at first I didn't see anyone in the place...then I looked around and saw a older woman on the phone with her back to me....at first I wait thinking that she is going to acknowledge me eventually...nope.. I continue to wait....finally she turns around and doesn't give me any indication that she is going to help me or anything she looks at me in the eyes and just turns around with her back to me again and just continues to chat on the phone...really..did this just happen? Is Ashton Kutcher going to come out from the back room and tell me I've been PUNKed? I wait a tisch longer and after finally being ignored (she was still on the phone)...I turn around and head out the door... The place is not that big...like it is small so she heard the door and all that Jazz If you want zero service and feel you haven't been ignored enough during your day...come on in you won't get service or leave with any goodies... Coffee cake, cupcakes and cookies. These are the three things that I can comment on (at this point!). We had a cookie and cupcake decorating 'party' at a nearby location in Geneva. Heidi's provided the undressed cookies and cupcakes (filled with buttercream by the way), but I decided that we needed some nibbles for during our event. We tried the cheese coffee cake and some chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. Just a few thoughts. This stuff was fresh! The coffee cake was moist and rich. I loved it! Very traditional. My hubby and son ate some of the leftovers about 36 hours later and the coffee cake was still perfect. The decorated cupcakes were sweet, but not overly so. The buttercream was light and fluffy. No gritty buttercream here! Delicious! Finally, the cookies were exactly what I requested. A little bigger than I expected and super fresh. I ate my cookie two days later and it was still fabulous! Side note: the vanilla filled cupcake reminded me of a homemade Twinkie in all the very best ways. Like the idea of a Twinkie, but don't like the processed taste? So I have to give this place a 4 because the cupcake I had was PHENOMENAL!! I would say probably one of the best, if not the best, I have ever had! It was a chocolate (but more like devil's food) and it had a buttercream frosting on top and also on the inside! Delicious!! I also ordered some cookies, which they had a decent selection of, but they were not great. I probably would order a cake from them for a birthday or something because the cupcake was so moist and delicious, but I probably would not order the cookies again. And the lady who helped me was a tad rude. I was asking her what the types of cookies were and she was responding to me as if I should have just known and how dare I ask! I did not like that ONE BIT! But I will definitely risk the bad service for another cupcake or 7!! =] **They do not take debit or credit here, another downside. Decent prices, delicious butter cookies, and amazing cinnamon rolls. The ONLY reason I give Heidi's a 4-star rating is that they don't accept debit/credit for under $20 (which I'm pretty sure isn't legal anymore). I didn't feel like driving across the street to the Harris and coming back so I somehow managed to rack up a $20 bill between cookies, cinnamon rolls, and a coffee cake. They also randomly close for weeks at a time for whatever reason they want for vacations and holidays and aren't open on Sundays or Mondays. It's a bit inconvenient, but worth the wait. I've done business with Heidi's for many years. It is a family run business, and I find the two sisters (Heidi and I don't know) to be gracious and helpful. They do close for vacation a couple times a year, but they post signs well in advance, and really are such a small concern, there would be no other way to get a break. I usually purchase Danish or coffee cakes, once in a while, cookies. In my book, their star creation is the almond crescent Danish. They sell out every day, so you either have to get there early (I'm thinking 9 am or before) or place an Oder in advance. I love all the Danish, but this one is so good, I've never found one to compare. The cheese coffee cake is also top notch. read more

Paczki day. Picked up a box of 6, pricey $14 and something... The barbarian was good. They are actually split in half and filling is spread across the whole donut. The whip cream one was just plain whip. Two, the apricots were ROCK HARD. As in stale. I can't believe they would put those hard paczkis in the box. Tossed those. Called, she was nice and and said I could bring them back for different ones. I'm long gone and 26 miles away. Dissapointed and embarrassed that I was the one to bring stale donuts to a function. I ordered a cake for my son's birthday. The customer service was terrible. They made my cake a day before the event and it was sitting out on the counter when I went to pick it up. I was never asked what kind of frosting I wanted. The very worst part was the fact that the cake was soggy, fell apart, and most if my guests took one bite and tossed it. It was also clearly filled with strawberry preserves not strawberries like I had requested. It was the worst cake I have ever purchased. We could not even give away the extras so we tossed most of it. Will never do business again. I am shocked that this was a professionally made cake. read more

Heidi must be making lots of money to treat customers the way she did this morning 11/19/11. I had to bite my tongue a couple of times. She made me feel like I put her out because I was standing outside her door before she open. I respect the fact she opens at 06:00 am and I was outside by my car. The box stores have just as good doughnuts and they are cheaper. I live and work in Geneva and I like to support area business'. I will think twice before I go back to her. Cakes (any kind...b-day with banana custard filling, cupcakes with buttercream filling, petite fors, upside down cupcakes with blueberry or cherry and streusssel or glaze topping). Pies and tarts (those pumpkin pie slices are so unbelievable). Brownies (rich, chocolate fix). Breads and breakfast goods (marble rye, sticky pecan rolls,donuts,filled bavarian creams). Seasonal baked goods (punchkis, hot cross buns, easter lamb cakes, did I mention the pumpkin pie slices). Cream puffs (mega cream-mega puff). Finally, my fave: Those hand dipped cookies. When you go into the bakery they are on the right , all the way to the right. These cookies aren't for you chips ahoy or oreo fans. these cookies are for cookie-aholics! These cookies are sold by the pound and I am sure I have eaten more than my body weight in these cookies...easily and happily...and I'm gonna do it again. You guys work so hard. You work at night when the rest of us are sleeping. We don't want the pre-prepared, big box store, petroleum based buttercream. We want the real deal. That's what your father was. At the suggestion of a local family member we ordered cupcakes from Heidi's for a college graduation party we were planning long distance. I was a bit taken aback when they only offered chocolate and vanilla cake and frosting - but they offered to make them special with orange and blue sprinkles. Relying on the advice of my brother I placed the order. WE WERE BOTH PROFOUNDLY DISAPPOINTED! When he picked them up he was embarrassed and I was truly taken by surprise at how underwhelming they were. This was the dessert we were to serve on our dinner buffet? They were not uniform in size, they were not frosted evenly and they were not pretty to look at. I've seen nicer looking cupcakes at a high school club bake sale. And to charge $25 for these 24 cupcakes was too much. To be fully candid, I sampled the chocolate and vanilla cakes and they were okay in flavor - but I was totally surprised to learn they were all filled with more vanilla frosting. This was my 3rd trip to this store. I asked for 6 kolackys. When I saw they were being put in a bag I asked for a box just like the last two times. I was told that a box was 50 cents more. Well, ok but no one told me this the first two times so either I got a free box or more likely got charged for it and didn't know it. My total purchase was $6.32. When I went to pay with my debit card I was told that my purchase had to be over $10.00 to use plastic. I was told also that it was always this way. Well, this was only the third time I have ever gone to Heidi's and I guess the first two times I paid cash. Anyway I didn't have the cash so when I stated this the person helping me immediately started putting the kolackys back in the case. Amazing that she wouldn't just charge me a little more or just say just remember for next time. The items were already in the bag! I love those kolackys but I will never go back - a customer lost permanently for probably 15 cents. read more
