This is a small chocolate shop. There are very limited number of seats inside. There were some boutique chocolate and cake in the display, but didn't see any ice cream. It was very hot outside. I was in the mood for ice cream. Thankfully the owner was very creative. She just asked for my taste, and created a pistachio sundae just like that. Its not in the menu. Just custom made for me. Pistachio ice cream, chocolate mouse and cherry. That was a good combination. I took a 4 piece chocolate box as well. Passion fruit mango caramel was my favorite flavor. Passion fruit mango center is sour and sweet. Hazelnut praline was my second favorite item. Persian saffron was a good flavor as well. Ube and coconut was good too, but the least in the 4 I picked. All chocolate looked beautiful and colorful.

CocoVaa has the best chocolate in Madison! I love going to CocoVaa for special occasions. It is a little pricey, but worth the money and quality of chocolates you are getting. I have gone twice now and have gotten a box of chocolates each time. The flavors are bold and intense. My favorites are the passion fruit mango, rose berry, and persian saffron. You can definitely tell the ingredients are top tier. Next time I would love to try their cakes or desserts!

    A fun Easter themed selection.

The best local chocolate shop, hands down!!! A Black woman owned fine chocolate shop centered around building community, high quality products with award winning skill and creative flavors! Built from the ground up with care in every detail of the shop and each product. I honestly don't have enough words to describe the amazingness of the chocolates here, the patisserie treats, and the love Syovata puts into everything she touches. Please go support this amazing woman putting Madison on the map as a fine chocolate superstar.

Wow! If you are planning on getting chocolates for a special occasion, loved one, or just want to treat yourself, you NEED to stop by CocoVaa for what I think is the best chocolate in Madison (in the world, if I'm being honest). Each piece looks like the most beautiful gem with intricate designs and unique shapes. The fruity flavors really pop like you just bit into a ripe blackberry or tangy passion fruit. Each bite is smooth and creamy with a delightful crunch of a chocolate shell. We grabbed a box of 9 to try an assortment of delicious candies. Each one is so special, you won't want to share. I think my favorites were the Passionfruit Mango Caramel and the Persian Saffron. There are also beautiful desserts available to eat with an array of teas to enjoy. Can't wait to stop by again!

My mom and I stopped in over Mother's Day weekend and it was so serene. The chocolate is so delicious(I knew there was a reason I had been avoiding). I love dessert and the caramel was so yummy! My mom had the lemon meringue and I had the chocolate espresso cheesecake! It was such a beautiful time spent there! Thank you CocoVaa!!

Such a stunning array of chocolates! If you want to eat - or gift - chocolates that double as works of art, look no further. They also ship nationwide.

These chocolates are absolute perfection - not only do they look incredible, but they taste even better! My absolute favorite flavor that I will always keep coming back for is the Passionfruit Mango Caramel. It is buttery and tart with just the right amount of sweetness. I was also really impressed with the beautiful Hanukkah gift box this past winter. This is an amazing woman-owned, Black-owned business that is creating something unique and wonderful.

The most flavorful and beautiful chocolates in Madison. The competition does not come close. I've tried all of the top-rated chocolate shops here: Madison Chocolate Company, Gail Ambrosius, Candinas, Infusion Chocolates and Kilwin's. All of their chocolates pale in comparison to the bold, balanced, and well-executed flavors that Syovata Edari creates in the CocoVaa kitchen. Some flavor highlights: Morello cherry bonbon: I've never tasted something so full of the essence of cherries. It was slightly tart, mouthwatering, and refreshing. Moroccan mint: This is what I wish mint leaves tasted like. It's not like your Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies. It reminds you of the fragrant plant that went into it. I read the description of the flavor after I tasted the bonbon and was surprised that it contained a hint of green tea. Maybe that's what took the mint from a common candy flavor to being a subtle, distinctively herbal essence. I thought this flavor combination was clever. Persian saffron: It's strange, but I feel emotional when I eat this one. After it melts on my tongue, the flavor feels warm and comforting. It makes me think of drinking a warm glass of milk in a cozy place. Pear-hazelnut-blue cheese: One of the experimental flavors that Syovata sometimes puts out. I was a little scared, but I took the leap and I really liked it. It just worked. The blue cheese was not intrusive. The flavors rolled onto your tongue in succession like stages of a firework and melded well with each other. It was brilliant. I cannot praise this chocolatier enough. If all you want from chocolate is to bombard your taste buds with sweetness, then this chocolatier may not be for you, but anyone looking for a memorable, flavor-infused chocolate will love this place.

Might've just dropped $40-ish on treats for myself... But one visit and you will understand completely. CocoVaa has won numerous awards for outstanding chocolate and well deserved. Supporting a black woman owned business just is an added bonus. Nowhere else outside of London have I've been able to get Violet truffles on a consistent basis, and now I have found a white chocolate and French violet bar is available as well. I am floating on a cloud right now anticipating sweetness and deliciousness above and beyond anything.

    Yum!

Nicest people for helping you choose your favorite chocolates. Every flavor was more interesting than the next. I'm excited to try the flavors selected for a box to go. Plus, we got opera cake to go!

I didn't believe the pictures. So I had to come in and see for myself...What an amazing, elegant, classy dream come true for all things chocolate! When I arrived there was 1 gentleman completing his order, and I looked at the two cases and thought that was all. I was mistaken! I looked at the cases and said "Give me 1 of everything!" I ended up with two of somethings...The owner showed me and told me of all of the chocolate, she showed me the most beautiful egg, perched up on top of a wall. Then showed me a sculpture that looked like it should have been in the Chazen Museum...IT WAS CHOCOLATE! She told me of her plans for Easter and showed me the real-looking leopard print shoe, that is also all chocolate! I went in there an spent more money than I wanted to but it was completely worth it, and I will be back. My wife loved the chocolate and couldn't believe the designs and colors on the chocolate weren't stickers or printed paper...CocoVaa, job well done!

Amazingly beautiful new space for this local treasure.

Super impressive chocolates now located in a super impressive new space. Then back story of the owner is impressive too and the international awards she's won speak for themselves. This place is definitely worth a return visit next time I'm back in town.

After reading outstanding reviews of CocoVaa chocolates, we decided to stop by during our annual Madison visit. I'm so glad we did. CocoVaa chocolates are truly delicious and beautiful. We'll definitely be back

My daughter also got the kids chocolate frappe (I think that's what it was called) she loved it! 3. We received one free truffle each since it our first time there. We ordered the mint, vanilla bean, and turtle truffles. I also ordered the sea salt caramel truffle and my daughter got a gaming boy stick chocolate. So cool. 4. We also tried their cookies so tasty! 5. The lady working was sooooo sweet. Omg, she truly was. I'm so sorry I didn't get her name but she made us feel welcome (almost everyone in Wisconsin made us feel that way) and she was no different. What a pleasant experience as we headed back home. In…read morethe past, my experiences with the employees were also pretty darn charming, or at least satisfactorily neutral. The last time I was in the store, however, I was made to feel chastised and unwelcome, and while I recognize that this is a very personal response to an impersonal slap down, it left me feeling so stung that I doubt I'll return. What happened was this: I needed a new pair of reading glasses, and I'd gotten the most adorable Peepers from this store in the past. It was 5:50pm, and I saw on their door sign that they closed at 6pm. Great! I thought. I'll pop in and grab a pair. Immediately upon entering, one employee said, "You know we close in ten minutes." "Got it! I'll be quick!" I replied. I went to the rack of glasses, considered a few pairs, and checked the fit in the little mirror on the rack. In that little mirror, I could see the employee behind me, who was frowning and rolling her eyes in exasperation, mouthing to her fellow employees on the other side of the room that , "No, not yet, she's still here." Yikes, I thought, checking my watch. It was 5:55pm, so I chose a pair and went to the register. One last thing--I wanted to get an e-cloth, a product a different employee had recommended to me the last time I was there. I mentioned this to the employee as she grouchily said, "Will that be all?" She huffed, "Well, the e-cloths are in a different part of the store." She strode off, and I said, "Any one will do!" She said, "No, just come pick the one you want." She proceeded to lead me to a section of wash cloths and sink cleaning scrubby brushes? When I explained that no, I was looking for a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses of the glasses with, and that they used to be stocked at the register, she huffed again and said, "Well, they're not anymore, are they? Also, we're just about to close...?" I bought the glasses, walked out the door, and checked my watch. 5:59pm. But golly, those nine minutes I spent in their store, encroaching on what I assume was their rush to be done and escape their pesky customers, left a bad taste in my mouth that nine days later still hasn't left. Which is a bummer. As I said, I really liked that store. Problem is, the cutest merchandise in the world can't make up for poor customer service.

We had so much fun, and we could see that all of the staff were also having a good time. Nothing but positivity, and it transfers into each and every delicious dish! We absolutely loved the complimentary cheese puffs (Gougeres). It was the perfect start to a fantastic meal. I enjoyed a starter of beet, walnut and cheese tart, and my dining partner thought his French Onion soup was stellar. I chose Monkfish stew for my main dish. It was incredible....silky, savory broth with melt-in-your-mouth monkfish plus tender shrimp and asparagus. The bread served with the stew was so delicious to soak it all up. My dining partner thoroughly enjoyed his Bistro steak with king trumpet mushrooms. The mushrooms were so elevated and so delicious. We shared a side of charred carrots and thought very highly of them, too. We closed out our epic meal by sharing one slice of Gateau Basque cake. It was served with a side of a tart cherry compote, and together this dessert was perhaps THE BEST dessert outside of France. Incredible! Sitting at the bar, our server was bartender Nina W. She was entertaining and didn't mind all of our ongoing questions. She added a another level of true enjoyment to our experience. Just as we were finishing up our dining experience the orchestrating chef stopped over to introduce herself. Once Annemarie said her name, I knew she was one of the founders of Lallander and next-door Bloom Bake Shop, having been a customer ever since their first bakery in Middleton. We were ten minutes early and they had just opened - strangely they would not seat us though our seats at the kitchen bar were open. So we huddled on the bench five feet away from our seats. It was not a great start but that was soon forgotten given the rest of the evening was fun. When I went on-line to make a reservation the only seats available were at the kitchen bar - that turned out to be fortunate because it was highly entertaining. When we return we will book these seats again as a couple (if you are with a group it is not a good place to hold a conversation). The bartender/ our server Jackson was super friendly and did a great job answering all our questions as we quizzed him on the action in the kitchen which was right in front of us (it's a small tight space). We ordered a beer and a wine followed by a small cup of French onion soup which was very tasty and a serving of their pate which was also very good. It was good that we had these front row seats because for some reason the kitchen appeared to be running a bit slow so the wait for our mains was pretty long. We did notice that when the owner arrived she started to direct the kitchen staff and the pace picked up! I got the pork tenderloin which was very flavorful and done with a bit of pink so it was not dry. It was a large serving. My wife got the sea bass in a puff pastry which was beautifully presented. The sauce was essential otherwise the dish would have been a bit plain. She really liked it. We were too full for desserts but they looked tempting though they did give us some savory cookies from their Bloom Bakery which is next store. This is not an inexpensive place to dine but it was well worth it. We will be back!
