I've experienced lunch at Coda Rouge a few times, but this special occasion, the five-course prix fixe aphrodisiac menu, was next-level dining. Why? The opportunity to experience the live painting artwork by Bryan "Prolifik" Hickman, artist and creator of the Tuskegee Airman mural on the side wall of Coda Rouge. The added ambiance of Singer's Lounge, Phebe West, singing lovely, familiar tunes. And last but not least, the intimacy of meeting Coda Rouge chef, Sachiko Tashiana, who trained under renowned chef Wolfgang Puck. And all hands on deck from the chef's family, who helped make the evening special. Finally, the presentation of each of the five courses and the food was superb. I brought my family here for Mother's Day. Everything was immaculate. Top to bottom. The story of the restaurant, and the building it resides in. The art is incredible. The chef made it a point to greet every table. Wanted to check this spot out since we moved here. Downstairs is really cute and aesthetic. We were taken upstairs to dine and that seemed like a cigar lounge/bar combo. I didn't smell any smoke (non smoker here) but my friend said she did ‍. There were bottles of liquor lining the bar but the bartender said the establishment didn't have their liquor license so we weren't able to order anything hard. We both got the boss lady which was fried catfish, grits and eggs. The fish and the eggs were phenomenal!! The grits needed a little help but nothing some salt and pepper couldn't handle. I wish the plate would've had the fish on the grits and not the eggs but I'm sure that's just my preference. If I could've ordered the fish à la cart and took me another piece home, I would've. Service was a little slow BUT it seemed there was one waitress for everybody and she was communicating wonderfully. My friend and I weren't in a rush so we didn't mind at all. Wow! This a great new spot on North 6th Street and is destined to be a hit. The interior and atmosphere are amazing. The owner did most of the interior renovations himself and preserved many if original architectural details His vision and care are evident throughout. Everything is top notch and thoughtfull, right down to the coffee service. My companion ordered buttermilk pancakes and I enjoyed the "B Pop Tart." Both were excellent, as was the coffee. I look forward to working my way through the rest of the menu. Service was friendly and enthusiastic. The staff is still learning a bit, hence 4 stars instead of 5. However, I expected this and there were no major mis-steps. Coda Rouge was an overall decent experience. My boyfriend and I stopped by after picking up my car from the shop and before driving an hour back home. The food was definitely the highlight--I ordered the chilaquiles (which were delicious!), and although I can't quite remember what my boyfriend got, I do remember we both really enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere was lovely and full of charm. I had read reviews mentioning the historical aspect of the building and that some guests were given a tour with a bit of background, which is actually what drew me to the place. Unfortunately, we didn't receive the tour or hear any of the history, even though a family who came in after us did--which was a little disappointing. As for the service, it was just okay. It seemed like there were only two servers working at the time, and ours was pretty quiet and not very attentive. Our food and check took quite a while, and we ended up needing to ask the other server for help a few times. She was great, and we appreciated her help, though we felt bad for interrupting her while she was attending to her own table. All in all, the food and setting were really nice, but the service and missed opportunity to learn about the history left the experience feeling a bit incomplete. He showed us to our seat and from there it was all gravy. Our order included the Blueberry French Toast and their massive cinnamon bun. You might want to share the bun with someone because it was gigantic and delicious. The atmosphere was cozy, soft lighting, but you're surrounded by lovely artwork from local artists. It's a whole vibe. There are a couple couches as part of their seating too. Jameson has a wonderful history behind his restaurant and I'm here for it. He honors his grandfather with an entire wall covered in a mural on the outside of the building. In addition, along with the mural on the outside, the name of the location as well as the bar inside are all tied to a family history connected to the Tuskegee Airmen. The owner himself greeted us and show us around - genuinely good people here. Their menu which can be seen online includes unique dishes that are carefully made by the chef. My friends and I had Huevos Rancheros, Avocado Toast, and the specialty grilled cheese. Each of our dishes was plated nicely and tasted delicious. This is a beautiful home and has been refurbished to an elegant dining experience. It was a little confusing to figure out where to park. We parked in the lot across the street. The restaurant right now only serves breakfast daily and then brunch on the weekends. I can't wait for them to start their dinner service next year. I had the mushroom quiche and my husband had huevos rancheros. Both were delicious and the chicken sausage tasted homemade. No liquor so just coffee, tea and juice. The artwork on the walls is from local artists including the chef and the server. We met the owner and this place is truly a labor of love and a homage to his grandfather a Tuskegee airman. A friend recently introduced me to Coda Rouge, located on 2013 North 6th Street in Harrisburg. It is an oasis of sensory delights that extend well beyond simply taste, but oh my, the flavors! You'll be greeted by the extraordinary mural of the Red Tail Tuskegee Airmen on the side of the building, painted by Brian "Prolific" Hickman. It is dedicated to the owner, Jameson Christopher's, grandfather, Charles Petty Sr., an airman in the 332nd Fighter Group. Inside, a gallery of vibrant original art, featuring portraits, local Harrisburg scenes and more, fills the walls. Music plays softly in the background and smiles, from the staff as well as the customers, abound! The menu features a variety of options and everything looked divine, but I can only speak for the first selection. The smoked salmon on a warm, crisp potato latke with an avocado, artfully arranged on top was heaven. Reflective of the surroundings, the presentation was pure artistry. I loved it the first time I had it and even more the second and third. I probably won't try anything else until they take it off the menu. (Please don't take it off the menu!) The exceptional ambiance, freshness of the food, creative menu selections and attentiveness of the staff, all housed in a beautifully restored historical building with an art gallery included have made it my favorite breakfast and lunch destination.
