Be prepared, this is a cash only establishment. Thankfully, we had just enough cash between us to cover the tab and the tip. We had visited years ago, but had forgotten this fact. This is a small town, old school diner type restaurant. Looking around it seemed as if most of the patrons knew one another. Our son stuck to his standard hash & toast. I enjoyed a well made omelette with slightly less desirable homefries. My husband had eggs and toast. Overall a decent restaurant for the basics. This morning I visited coddingtons on meadow for a breakfast date and it was amazing! Our server greeted us right away and was so friendly! I got the bacon egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel with home fries and it was just melt in your mouth perfect! This brunch spot is so cozy and rustic as well! This place is a great stop for breakfast and lunch especially if you like home-style cooking. The staff is great and they are immediately ready to take orders when you come in. I dont understand why this place gets negative reviews, I mean there is usually one cook only so the wait for food is usually a little bit on the longer side for diner style ~10-15 minutes if busy, but the service and home feeling definitely make up for it. The only reason I can see why people leave negative reviews is because they couldnt read that it is a cash only business (who wants to pay Uncle Sam all that money!) In the photo is their big pancake stack with a side of sausage, they were buttery and delicious, but my favorite is their texas french toast (ill add pics the next time i order it) Definitely would recommend supporting this local cash business and stopping by for a bite and some hot, bottomless coffee read more

This place can only make what they know and what they're used too. I asked for a simple grilled cheese with bacon tomato and spinach. The sandwich was moist and overfilled with previously frozen spinach. Totally gross and their lack of improvised cooking showed. I haven't been back and don't plan too. :) read more

The last time I went to Coddington's for breakfast it took 30 minutes and the toast was burned, the cold butter glopped on it, the eggs were over cooked and rubbery and they forgot the bacon. They said they were "sorry" but they had a huge take out order and forgot about my breakfast. I used to love breakfast here and they did it so well. "Country Comfort" Our first time at Coddington's and we liked it. Nice country style diner with a few regulars that enjoyed chatting with the owner and staff. Our waitress was new and a little nervous but she did good while taking care of us. My wife had a sausage, tomato, and cheese omelette with home fries and rye toast. I had the spanish omelette. Peppers, onions, and salsa omelette with home fries and rye toast. It seemed to take more time than expected to prepare our breakfast. But once we tasted it we understood why. She obviously takes much care in preparing each dish because our breakfast was well seasoned and very tasty. Most places never cook the home fries enough. Coddington's are perfect. We were seated across from the cash register. As we were eating, I noticed the painting on the wall below the register. I got a kick out of it. It's a painting of two stools at the counter. But they also painted a dollar bill and a set of keys on the floor as if someone dropped them. They obviouly have a sense of humor at the restaurant. We'll be back soon. read more

Coddington's lunch is really good. I love their turkey trot sandwich especially around thanksgiving time. The place has a very homely feeling and always on the quiet side. Hours could be better considering it closes pretty early. Their website says they close at 3 but I walked in at 1:50 one day and they told me they close at 2. They should update their website. Anyways, it's a great place to grab a filling lunch if you're on the go or by yourself. read more

So a year later I've revisited Coddington's On Meadow and I have to say I was very disappointed in the service. One server in particular seemed very rude. When our server forgot to give us straws for our drink we asked the over server and she grabbed a straw and threw it down on our table. The food seems to have lost its special quality too. Naugatuck is a land of wonder and mystery: something about Naugatuck says Americana (the part of Naugatuck without the heroin and meth problems). Coddington's represents that whimsical and wonderful quality. Coddington's is a luncheonette on Meadow Street in this sleepy town, directly across from the green. A few years ago, I had the good fortune of living nearby, and it was a Sunday tradition to cross the street to visit this place. It is small, with only a smattering of tables and some stools surrounding an open fully-visable kitchen. Watching the cooks is refreshing, though you will probably gather, as I did, that this business buys most of their supplies from the local Costco. The service is friendly and quick, the pancakes are huge, and the coffee is strong and bottomless. I can't recommend more than the Omelets, pancakes, egg platters and potatoes, because that is all I ever had. But if you live in the area and want an enjoyable Sunday breakfast, stop by. While you are there, look across the street where wiffle ball history was made all those years ago when I called Naugatuck home. read more

The only good thing about this place is that they served us breakfast after they stop serving breakfast. It was freezing in there, table was not cleaned, the coffee was luke warm, no music. And the food, it looked like I could have just gone in the kitchen and cooked it myself. Nothing special about this place at all especially when they start cleaning the kitchen with bleach, which is great that they sanitize but not while I'm eating. Quaint breakfast spot, very townie. I ordered an eggwhite omelet ( which costs an extra $1) with cheese and mushrooms. It came with homefries and choice of toast. The homefries were too crispy for my boyfriend but I enjoyed them. They are real potatoes. The coffee is bottomless but a woman in her 40's working the grill was audibly angry when we told our server we wanted more coffee and then proceeded to only have 2 more cups.... She was irked since it was the end of their shift and they brewed a whole pot for us ( we were the last people in the place.) Our servers were embarassed that she was yelling at us, but we good humoredly stayed later and drank more and took 2 cups to go. My bf had chocolate chip pancakes and we were disapointed that the chips had a slightly burnt quality to them. They should have sprinked them on the top and not flipped them. My wife and I tried this place for breakfast this morning. Had two couples come in after us , and another couple came in after we ordered. While waiting for our breakfast, we watched as the grill cook was on her cell phone for a solid 7-8 minutes. Moving the phone from hand to hand while handling food (no gloves), we thought - probably not a good idea. We waited 15 minutes after we ordered and everyone else had their food .. we were still waiting. Either the others were regulars or the cook wasn't paying attention .. either way .. at this point we got up, I paid for the coffee we drank and we left. FIRST TIME THERE - LAST TIME THERE. Good food for a diner. Too bad they don't care about their customers. I used to work for a certain town municipality and on one occasion while working we were extra busy, so, I prepaid for my meal. Ended up having to go out and take care of a few things, when we came back they had our food waiting on the counter and proceeded to throw it away in front of us telling us it was "probably bad by now". They offered us a cup of coffee as a consolation. These people aren't team players. read more

Ahhhh Coddingtons on Meadow.....such a nice discovery. My boyfriend lives in Naugatuck, and has driven past this place almost every day for the past 5 years or so. But he never went there until I came around, about a year ago. I have only been here for breakfast, and I am a HUGE fan of their ham, egg and cheese on a hard roll. We often call for takeout. They put the ham and the rolls on the griddle, so everything is crispy and hot and melty....Yummy! They also have really good corned beef hash. A great place to go for a weekend breakfast. read more

I love Coddington's. They're only about 1/4 mile from my house and they are a normal weekend visit for my girlfriend and I. The owner is on the grill and always very friendly, as is the rest of the staff. We usually call ahead and then take it home as the interior is pretty small and they tend to get packed, so going home is just easier, but the food is good and you get decent sized portions. I used to work in the area and few coworkers would order from here for lunch. Everyone raved about the hot pastrami sandwich. So I gave it a shot ... and it was AMAZING! The pastrami was loaded on rye bread with cooked onions, Swiss, and mustard. Simple and satisfying! It's a little greasy but what good sandwich isn't?! I love their cole slaw too.
