Scotty's in Wallingford was interesting. Cute little downtown, local dive vibe. We went in with great expectations. My go to breakfast when I go to any new place (to me) is to always try the eggs Benedict. Their Scotties Benny had an interesting spin on the original. It had some cheese in it which I was happy to try. It also came with home fries, which were delicious. I have had better eggs Benedict then this, I don't think it needed the cheese, and the sauce on it was not very fresh. My friend got a muffin and an egg sandwich, where there was more roll than egg. Also the butter he was offered to put on the muffin, was something other than butter. One of the more interesting things about Scotty's, was we were served our breakfast on paper plates, we had plastic utensils, and that was a huge turn off for me. Our waitress was excellent, so no beef there. I guess my last gripe would be that when we checked in to Scotty's a 10% off coupon popped up, which happens occasionally being a Yelp elite. The waitress assured us that the manager would help us with the 10% off so when the time came we showed her the coupon. The manager questioned us saying it must be for another restaurant, there is a Scotty's in Branford she said. And then when we prove to her that we were at the right Scotty's, it seemed as though we were truly inconveniencing her. first off the food was served on a paper plate, next the pancakes had a sour taste that left me with food poisoning for 2 days. Scotty's is the hole-in-wall breakfast joint that you must visit for breakfast. The waitress is called Lori, but may have easily been "Dottie"" or "Flo". She was quick with the coffee and a joke, and my cup was never empty. I had an omelet with home fries and toast, which was as one would expect at a diner, only better and less expensive. Patrons were all locals; no large tables of loud screaming kids or hostesses calling out names of the next party. They have a bathroom but they also kind of don't have a bathroom FYI so maybe take care of that before you get there. This place can get a little packed because it's small but I've never had to wait. I really want to like this place more. The people who run it are so nice, and the service is good. The food however is very basic. Corned beef hash is canned not made fresh, pancakes are kind of tasteless like generic boxed mix, and there's no real maple syrup or butter (they use margarine). Decided to give the new Scotty's in town a try. I was a long time customer and fan of this restaurant when they were on Broadway in North Haven. Sadly, when they opened in the new location on Washington Ave, it was not the same and somewhat disappointing, so I stopped eating there. But, I'm happy to report that our breakfast in Wallingford was excellent! For a Saturday morning around 8:30, it was surprisingly empty inside as I had anticipated a long wait. Considering they've only been open 1 week it's possible folks haven't had a chance yet to stop by. We were seated right away and within minutes had fresh, hot coffee. The service was great and Scotty has regained his "Omelet King" status with me! The omelet was huge and stuffed with veggies and cheese. The apple pancakes that I grew to love years ago were good, although just a tad too much cinnamon which was a little overpowering. The super breakfast with 2 of everything, including eggs, meat, toast, home fries and your choice of pancakes or French toast is a big breakfast and well worth the price. Daily specials are posted on a board. The prices are extremely reasonable for the portion and quality you get compared to other breakfast restaurants in the area. Even the eggs appeared to be jumbo and not the tiny pigeon eggs some breakfast places use. By the time we left, the place was filling up with people, plus the farmers market across the street may have contributed to that. The owners wife came by to check on everything to ensure we were pleased which is a nice touch. The place is small but quaint. If you're local to Wallingford I would encourage you to support them in their new location and get there before the masses find out and you'll have to wait in lines to be seated. read more

Stopped in with a coworker for an early lunch. She ordered a veggie omelet with home fries that she enjoyed. I ordered the grilled cheese burger, medium temperature with a side of potato salad. I was informed they were out of potato salad, and opted for macaroni salad. I was then informed they were also out of macaroni salad. So, that left only home fries or slaw. I took the home fries. That is okay for breakfast, but I was eating my lunch. Well, not the end of the world, the home fries were red skinned potatoes, all of which had the skins still left on them. Not my first choice, not my second choice, but I had little choice at this point. The burger which I ordered medium was actually cooked well done. The quality of the beef was previously frozen and gristly. The cheddar cheese (shredded package type) was barely even melted. Went to Scottys Breakfast in Wallingford for the first time today because it came up on another app as a suggestion. The restaurant is not far from the train tracks that pass through the town. I was with my family and when we opened the door to the restaurant we were surprised how small it was inside, 3 booths and about 7-8 stools at the counter. The middle of the restaurant is the kitchen area which is open so you see your cook making your meal. Originally we sat at the counter because all of the booths were filled but a couple that were seated left and we moved to a booth. Our waitress came over and we asked for coffee and juice for my daughter. She came quickly with coffee that was piping hot and tasted great. My wife and daughter ordered one of the specials and I ordered the super breakfast. The super breakfast comes with eggs, a choice of meat (bacon, sausage or other choices), toast, home fries and pancakes for under $10. I asked for scrambled eggs, bacon, white toast and pancakes. Everything was delicious, the eggs were especially great. I looked around and my wife and daughter had both cleaned their plates. Scottys has been around for some time and looks like it is mostly visited by locals but I would recommend it is a place worth making a trip to for a very very delicious start to your day. read more

The service is excellent and you can really tell the staff cares about giving you a good meal. This is the second time I have been here for breakfast. I had scrambled eggs wheat toast and homefries. The portions were large for the price. The service was good. The waitresses were very friendly. However, the home fries need work. They tasted like they were just heated up from the day before. I know home fries very well. I have been eating home fries my entire life and my father makes delicious home fries. Even if the home fries were from today, they were just heated up. They were definitely not fresh. The seasoning on the home fries was horrible. From what I could see, there was just paprika and pepper on it. The spices made the potatoes too spicy because too much spice was on the potatoes. The potatoes were also very dry and not very hot. I would love to show them how to make amazing home fries. I gave the restaurant three stars because of the hot eggs and good service. The restaurant was very quaint and clean. I would go back there to try something else. read more
