I booked a cut with Becca on 7/13 and it's literally the worst hair cut of my life. It looked ok when I left the salon but once I got home n showered n blow dried, the product was gone and I can see the truth. The front "face framing layers" were way too deep and don't blend well with the rest of the hair. It's like I have two different hair cuts. I ended up going to another salon for an emergency fix and they agreed that the sections were uneven. They sectioned some of my bangs to trim and they were laughing at how uneven it was. They said my hair had a lot of "corners" To make things worse, I called (7/16 10am) to explain what happened and asked for a refund (the stylist that fixed my hair said I should given how bad it was). The receptionist said they'll offer a full refund if I never come back. So sure, I'll take it. They never processed my refund! I'm also getting married in 2 months and this short in the front long in the back, isn't conducive to long wavy wedding hair. read more

Becca was simply amazing and so sweet! She listened carefully to all my instructions and really did an amazing job. I've had a very bad experience with hair cuts in the past so it takes me a lot to trust someone with my hair. I asked Becca to keep my length and give me some nice bangs, she did an incredible job, it doesn't even look like my hair was cut! The style is fantastic and I'm in love with my bangs! The salon is very clean and modern but at the same time super cozy and everybody is really nice. The only negative side I'd say is the price, it's a bit expensive, I paid 130$+tip while my friend paid over 300$ for a haircut but at the same time I understand we're in SF and services like these are a little pricey. I've been coming to CODE Salon for several years now, and I love getting my haircut by AC. This review is for the majorly negative experience I had here was letting Courtney lighten my hair several months ago. I waited to write this review until after I had my hair lightened elsewhere for validation. And if I weren't still seeing AC, I'd give me experience 3 stars. I first had my hair lightened at CODE by Natasha, who performed a beautiful balayage on my shorter hair, which was chin-length at the time. She didn't return to the salon from a maternity leave, so when I was ready I selected the salon's master colorist, Courtney. Courtney and I had a consultation in which I showed her several photos of Natasha's recent work on my hair along with similar work from other colorists elsewhere over the years achieving a level 8 to level 7 blonde. Courtney seemed confident she could easily achieve the same results on my almost-entirely virgin hair and had me book for a partial balayage given my hair was at jaw length, so the back was still quite short. I was quite disappointed with Courtney's initial balayage attempt, a lopsided level 6 blonde. The strangest things was that Courtney -- who had never lightened my hair before -- never checked on the progress of the bleach. Instead, someone else came over after about 45 minutes to shampoo my hair. This is the first time in my decade+ of lightening my hair that the colorist has not checked on its progress. Shortly after I walked out of the salon and could better see the results in natural light, I went back into the salon and Courtney offered to correct my hair two days later. (I was a bit annoyed only because my schedule was very busy at that time, so it was stressful for me to shuffle things ago.) Courtney ended up doing a full foil that, while better in terms of the level I wanted, lacked dimension and fried my hair from the double processing. In the end, it cost me almost $600 (including a tip for the redo) to get something not quite right. By comparison, when I got a partial foil a few days ago, the colorist gave me a lovely dimensional color including a root shadow for $400 including tip. That colorist was shocked when I explained that Courtney had never checked on my hair's progress with her first attempt and agreed that when I came in the blonde was very flat / one note. read more

After 11 years in San Francisco, trying multiple salons with mediocre results, and traveling as often as possible to visit my hairstylist in my hometown, I was thrilled to find Aric at Code Salon! His work leaves me feeling gorgeous in both color and cut. He is the only stylist who has been able to give me truly ashy highlights (done with balayage) without a hint of orange, yellow, or red. Exactly what I've been wanting. They are also done in a very delicate, blended way (no chunky streaks here)! He's also advised me to switch from my permanent root color (done with a heavy lifting developer) to a demi-permanent root color (with only light lifting). It's so much better for my hair, and will also give me color flexibility if I change my look in the future. I also love my cut so much - I get beautiful blended layers, movement, lightness, and it's just pretty. I'm so grateful that Aric is right here, and I won't need to travel or fill my travel time with yet another appointment! read more

This should become improved so they can be more customer service, which gets the word around and that increases their revenue. 1. Bad policies include: will charge you full amount if you are late. Cannot reschedule if you are late. 2. Questionable policy: Must have submit a deposit fee to have your hair done. Especially if you are ever late. If you are thinking of booking here, make a note of this because the location of this salon has little to no parking and is located near a busy intersection. Other than that, they do have some decent talent. I wish them the best but I wouldn't go here if you have an circumstances in which may interfere. Can be most humans who have a busy work schedule, don't have easy access to a car or parking. So most of San Francisco, sadly. read more

I've been going to code salon for a FANCYY haircut from Hiro (LA/beverly hills). He is very talented & popular. I like my hair color's appointment with Zoe. She listens & remembers every details of my expectations. (& trying to fix asap before the color turned out off) Their receptionist is sweet & attentive as well. BIG COMPLAINT for Becca. She is super aggressive, hurt my nose when trimming my bang off. (My nose was super red). I told her: "Please be gentle..." And she DID NOT want to cut my bang off fully, even though I kept reminding it to her. And interrupted me a lot. And she left everything unfinished: an uneven, ugly bang and did not explain a word to me. And wasn't telling anyone. When the receptionist charged me on full price, I was confused, (obviously no one was aware of it. ) Becca was walking by, STARING AT ME IN ANGER, intimidating gaslighting me, as if "how dare you bring this up to the staffs". Their receptionist was super helpful on scheduling me an appointment with another more experienced hairstylist on the other day. Overall, the service was great as I had my water refilled constantly and was asked if I was comfortable throughout the service. My hair was cut to the length that I wanted along with the layers to style it off. That said, the service is a bit pricey if there is some budget. I just cut my hair + washed for $195 (w/o taxes). So let me put you on some TRUTH. When I first came to California, I wanted a good salon and a popular place that kept coming up on my searches was this place. I first met Sam and she was a godsend in doing the haircut I wanted and she eventually colored my hair too. So when I wanted to go from my brunette hair to a red/brown, almost copper, she recommended me to Monty. I had never heard of her, but because Sam recommended her to me, I was hopeful. Monty put me through a whole workday. Basically six hours to treat my hair. She wanted to make sure she got everything down to the roots all to ACTUALLY color my hair orange! It was highlighter orange. She royally fucked it up. I told her that I didn't want red hair and she straight up with orange. So then we go and do another treatment and by this time I was so irritated that I just wanted to get out of this damn salon. She finally gets the color right, I pay second portion of a total of an $800 fee and leave. When I get home I realize there's a patch of blonde in my hair that she forgot to color because she was already frustrated from having fucked up the first time and when she was telling me that if I wanted to get my roots done she couldn't imagine it being a whole day. "It was maybe going to be about 200-300 and change." I said OK, I think it's still expensive but that's fine. I just tried to book an appointment and they were quoting me six hours just to do some roots. GTFO. don't even waste your time with Monty. If you want a proper cut and if you want some definition to your hairstyle/haircut, then go to Sam. I'll miss Sam but hours with the same woman who does NOT know how to color hair. I had waist-length fine hair that I had been growing out from a bad cut and wanted shoulder-length and low-maintenance. Sam is now my forever hairstylist. Her bleaching technique to even out blonde hair and black hair roots is a 10. Her ability to highlight and give dimension to your hair is a 10. Her willingness to achieve your inspirational look is also a 10. I would go to Code Salon for its spacious, airy, clean, and unique decor that merges the "art museum feel" with the feeling of being the canvas with its photography spot lighting, soft lighting, wide walls, high ceilings, and wall to wall windows. I'm not sure that my stylist understood what my hair would look like if it wasn't blown dry straight and then curled, with product. I specifically said I wanted to be able to wash and go. No one's hair should look like a five-year-old's home haircut. Mine does. The length is shorter than I wanted and doesn't even look good with my facial shape! In my opinion if a hair cut looks bad just washed and dried(basically if you have to coif it to make it look decent), it's a bad hair cut. The ends stick out because it's a bob and the layers look uneven. Thankfully my hair grows quickly, so I don't have to put up with this terribly long. Not coming back to this salon. read more

I came into the store unsure of what I wanted and completely new to San Fransisco. Within minutes I was scheduled an appointment with the loveliest, most hardworking stylist named Becca. I've never before had such a comfortable and rewarding haircut; we bonded immediately thanks to her infectious positivity and she kindly recommended stops and sights for me to visit during my holiday. Most importantly she lent me her years of expertise to helped me narrow down what kind of cut I wanted and what would suit my face shape. I entered the shop insecure and uncertain and left knowing who I was and looking FABULOUS. If that wasn't enough the price was totally reasonable like $120. At the end she demonstrated how I should take care of my hair and style it. AND she helped me pick out volumising shampoo, conditioner and mousse that didn't hurt my student budget for no more than $50 total. Absolutely loved the custom color Monty helped me achieve, however I am throughly disappointed with the cut I received from another stylist. Once I got home, I noticed the sides were uneven and it wasn't like any of my reference pictures. I'm not too knowledgeable in hair terms, but I did ask for a "hush cut" and showed them some inspiration/reference photos (which I didnt think they looked into that much). I ended up with uneven bangs + lopsided face framing pieces and no added layers. They never asked about what lengths or how thick I wanted the bangs or face framing pieces, they just chopped. It was 10 minutes until closing and I didn't want to be that person, but waiting weeks for an appointment to prep for a very special day and finally achieve that color of my dreams to have my confidence totally ruined by a cut I could never see myself in is beyond infuriating and disappointing. I understand that it could've been a long day and the cut would be cute on someone other than me. I just feel like it accentuates my insecurities rather than boosting my self confidence. Monty was an angel throughout the whole process and guided me properly throughout the whole session, thank you so so much. But I do not think I will be returning sadly. read more
