I appreciate how the person on the text line was quick to respond and made an effort to fit me in very last minute (literally within the next few hours). The whole experience was very relaxing, to the point where I think I fell asleep for a hot second. It was the first time for me in a salon where the stylist didn't really have any conversation outside of asking what I wanted. We didn't say a single word after the consultation - Perfect for introverts! I said I wanted long layers and about 1 inch off and I got exactly that. I can't say enough about my new hair style done by Amber. I am in my "senior" years and have always had long, at least shoulder length, hair. I showed Amber a few short hairstyles that I liked and then left it up to her to do what she thought best. I went in for a long hair cut + style appointment, after having booked the appointment on their website. And I have to say I was really impressed with the service that I got - not only Amber listened to my thoughts on new style that I wanted for my hair, but she also made some excellent suggestions. I went for the U cut with some face framing layers. It started with a relaxing hair massage/shampooing and then she proceeded to cut my hair after towel drying it. There were even some dry cuts made after blow drying my hair. I really felt that Amber cared deeply about her work and helped me reach the style that I had in my mind! The interior is also decorated to enthuse a calming effect - especially the plants growing from old used hair product bottles were an added charm! Overall I left very happy with my new hair cut! Amber is an amazing hairstylist. She went above and beyond what I could've expected. She started our session with a consultation of how to color and cut my hair. She listened to all my concerns and questions. She is also fully transparent with pricing, which I appreciate as I've been quoted a price but then surprised with extra fees before. She is so thorough. I've had balayage done in the past, but Amber goes to the next level. She went through each section and didn't bleach the strands I had already done before. I appreciated that because I was worried about those strands being bleached again. Once I saw the finished product, I was speechless and so happy with the color. The haircut was great. She made sure I loved the length and how I wanted my curtain bangs. She asked at the end if there was anything more she could fix for me. I fully agree with the other people -- I haven't walked out a hair salon this happy before in awhile too -- Amber is AMAZING (and Star too)! (Also have to note that as an introvert and awkward person the staff there was so nice and didn't force small talk onto me and I appreciate that so much LOL) I got a cut + balayage and still wasn't fully sure on the colour and cut styling I wanted (showed a reference, but it was a compilation of 3-4 pics and I still wasn't fully sure) and after describing it to her she NAILED it. She communicates throughout the process really thoroughly, suggests treatments but doesn't push anything! They also do consultations which really helped me with budgeting pricing so the price wasn't a surprise at the end. Side note - even though I personally can't speak to Star's haircutting skills as Amber did my haircut (hes great with balayage!) I just came here for the first time and I was super happy with my experience. It is really scary trying a new salon for the first time but Amber was attentive to me and checked in throughout the cut to make sure I was okay with everything. I got bangs (which is also always scary to get done by a new person) but they turned out so cute and I was so happy leaving with my new look. I came to Amber after seeing a sidewalk sign advertising the scalp detox. The salon is cozy and Amber is very informative and welcoming. The scalp detox involved an exfoliating scalp brush, scalp massage, scalp mask/treatment, shampoo, condition, and rough dry. The scalp massage was so relaxing I almost fell asleep! My experience at Tulip salon was unfortunately quite bad and I would not recommend anyone get their hair colored here. I scheduled a cut and balayage appointment, requesting to have golden/honey tones blended into my hair -- explicitly stating not blonde. I've had balayage done on my hair for years and have never had a bad result like this. I was left with a pretty frustrating result. My hair looked streaky, cheap and very blonde. The cut was also uneven in the back, think upside down triangle shape... When I expressed my concern Amber offered to tone it more but was short and did not apologize. After consulting several other, reputable stylists I was informed toning would not be enough to fix this and I was told based on the job she did, it was unlikely she would know how to properly fix it. I then asked her for a partial refund (also advised to do this by other stylists who stated they would absolutely issue one if this was the result) and was denied - being told "we all have our own preferences." I had to spend hundreds of dollars and four+ hours to get this fixed. I find it extremely unprofessional that she advertises herself as being a capable colorist, charging the price that she does, when I was informed by several stylists this was absolutely not a balayage and simply cheap highlights. I'm not sure if she was just having a bad day which I could understand but her response to the situation made it all the more frustrating. Do not go here if you want to get ripped off. read more
