We ate here after reading the great reviews about this place. The food was amazing! Our party of 6 all ordered different entrees and we all loved our meals. Our son said the ribs were the best he had ever had. "Even better than yours, Dad. No offense." I love craft beer and found a delicious, citrus IPA, Star Dust. Our waiter was awesome. Very attentive, friendly and helpful. Other staff were equally as friendly and polite. It was a bit loud in there, but they were busy and we didn't mind... just mentioning in case anyone is sensitive to noise. read more

Didn't think it would that busy on a Tuesday, late September evening. Boy was I wrong. Glad we made a reservation. Lots of tables in this small restaurant and we were seated at a table in the bar. After a few cocktails we had the fried green appetizer which was tasty. I didn't really care for the lump crab meat topping but Hus enjoyed it. When you're used to real fresh crab meat you get a little spoiled. I chose the 14 oz. T-bone pork chop and it was fabulous! Baked potato was lukewarm which was disappointing. Three vegetables accompanied the pork chop. Pickled red cabbage and sweet potato soufflé were delicious. Hus had the Baseball Cut Top sirloin and it was very good. Enjoyable evening. One of two best dinners we've had in Cody. There were lovely flower pots greeting us at the door. It's a small restaurant with clean, modern decor which was a nice change from the usual cowboy. It has an adequate bar which is where we sat. The bar keep was pleasant and efficient. The pot stickers were fried well and peanut sauce had just the right amount of fire. We both got steaks, a filet and rib eye. Both ere excellent and the sides were good, altho I thought the sweet and sour cabbage was rather bland. On the whole an excellent dining experience. read more

A1 service, just don't ask for the A1 sauce. A1 is slang for excellent service. The baseball cut sirloin steak cooked perfectly. Med rare is the way to go for optimal flavor. Our appetizer (fried green tomatoes) was very good. Salads so-so. I can't eat iceberg. Waiter told us the house salad had iceberg so I ordered a Caesar salad. Salads were served in a warm dish & there was NO iceberg. I can't tell you how many people DONT KNOW WHAT ICEBERG IS. My husbands rib eye steak was good. My halibut was terrible. Our waiter dropped off our meals & asked if we needed anything thing else. My husband asked for more butter & steak sauce. We never saw him again until he came to remove our plates, 30 minutes later. He saw that I had not eaten my fish & asked if I wanted it to go. I said NO it wasn't good. My husband also said that he never brought the butter and steak sauce. He said sorry & returned with our check. I sort of blame the management for not making sure the staff is properly trained. I would have ordered something else if he had returned timely. read more

Chili was the best with big chunks of sirloin , great selection of food to accommodate our group, beer was great with samples ready for you to choose your brew . We stopped by this restaurant for dinner before heading to our hotel. The food was excellent! My boyfriend had their soup special, broccoli gouda, and hot n spicy chicken sandwich. It was delicious. I tried their chili as a starter and had the special scallops with chimmurri sauce paired with basamati rice and asparagus. Everything was tasting. Our server, Danea, was friendly and provided excellent service. We've been driving for about five hours, so it was nice to be greeted by friendly staff and have Danea take care of us. The restaurant was lively and clean. The next time you're in Cody, check this place out. read more

More reviews, and their website, should probably make it clear that you want to make a reservation. This is a popular and busy place. We walked in just lucked in to getting the last free table. I try to judge restaurants based on what they're trying to be, rather than on some absolute scale. This place wants to be a quality steakhouse in Wyoming. By that standard, it's 4/5. Better than most steakhouses, but could do better. Staff was top notch. The food, while quite good, just didn't quite match the aspirations of the restaurant. The steaks were well prepared, but the meat wasn't uniformly what I'd hope for from a Wyoming steakhouse. My ribeye was tasty, but my wife's filet underwhelming. Has some TVs running showing some sports something or other; no sound that I noticed, so it doesn't impact the experience much one way or the other. We'll give them another try the next time we're passing through. But we'll make a reservation. read more

When deciding to dine out, I expect cleanliness, good service, and fresh tasty food. Cody Steak House did not provide any of these. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the staff were somewhat friendly and the food achieved mediocrity. When our party of six was seated, we were only given five sets of silverware. Despite asking for another set, the staff didn't bring any until much later. When we received our salads, one was so wilted that there were green marks on the plate from the wilting lettuce. The other salads were not much better. After the salad course, the waitress told us to keep our silverware for the next course, and seemed very consternated when one of us requested new silverware. We hadn't received the initial missing set by this point, so I thought asking for clean silverware was a pretty brave move. We ordered a bottle of wine, and the glasses came out nearly opaque from the residue of previous half-washings. There were still lipstick marks on one of the glasses. Despite being advertised as a house wine, the wine itself was not very good (Sola 2017 Cabernet). The limited choices of wines was not a serious defect on its own, but was just another area where this steakhouse should consider improving. I'll normally judge service in part based on how long water glasses sit empty. When our glasses were empty, I asked one of the waitresses if I could please have more water. She replied with, "Ummm.... Ok." As if she had to think about getting us water. The main dishes arrived at the same time, which was better than I expected by that point in the dinner. The dishes all looked pretty good, although the lettuce on my burger was pretty wilted and I had to remove some of it. The fried green tomato burger itself was okay. The tomatoes were fried and green, as promised. The inclusion of the standard lettuce and tomato obscured the taste of the fried green tomatoes, while the blue cheese was just blue cheese dressing. The chicken fried steak was tasty, while the sides that came with it were awful. We asked for butter to go with the mashed potatoes, and they charged us $0.50 per person for the butters. Who doesn't give butter with mashed potatoes?? The one slightly positive point was that the staff smiled and mostly put on a friendly demeanor when they came to the table. The constant misfires in the service, the rotted vegetables and bad sides, and the dirty/lacking tableware combined to make this meal one of the worst we have ever had to endure while dining out. I would recommend trying absolutely anywhere else in town when visiting Cody, the Cody Steak House is a waste of good money. read more

My husband and I were traveling from Louisiana to Washington in late April and decided to spend a night in Cody along the way. Whilst going through restaurants listed on Yelp to find a place for dinner, I couldn't help but notice the good reviews and good looking food pics for Cody Steak House. SERVICE Top-notch!!! I can't remember the lady's name who served us, but she was the blonde with glasses and SO NICE! She was also training a new member of the team (I think it was his first or second day on the job), Isaiah, who was also very kind and eager to learn all he could. I can tell he'll be an excellent addition to the team! FOOD It was totally delicious! I had the T Bone and my husband had the Buffalo Ribeye. They were mixed up when brought to the table so we had to try both to figure out what was what, but both were sooo good. I couldn't tell much of a difference between them aside from one was larger than the other. Not sure if that's a good thing that I couldn't tell or a bad thing (I'd never had buffalo before), but again, both were delish. LOCATION The restaurant is a tiny bit tucked away and not very prominent next to other shops/restaurants. We drove by twice and couldn't see it, then just parked and tried to find it by walking towards the general direction that my phone was giving us. Maybe we were just blinded by being tourists and not knowing where we were going, but it wasn't a big deal. Parking on the street around the corner was easy to find and the town wasn't very busy. MASKS This is for travelers wandering through Cody who may wonder. At the time we went through, there were no masks in sight in any restaurant, store, or the hotel we stayed at. I'd say Cody has long been done with masks, which was fine by us! But for those who may be traveling from places where masks are still the norm, be aware that you won't really see them anywhere in Cody. OVERALL I'm really glad we chose this restaurant. We were in town and it was our 52 anniversary but they were closed on Monday. We waited till Friday night and went for dinner. After calling in a reservation we arrived on time and were immediately seated. The waiter showed up immediately for our drink order. Happy hour 1/2 price house wine. We ordered the calamari. It was ok but not the best we have had. We shared the baseball steak dinner. The steak was cooked perfectly. The caesar salad was good. They give you a triple vegetable side of broccoli, red cabbage, carrot soufflé and choice of potato. The soufflé was like baked sweet potato. Overall we enjoyed the meal. I was in the mood for some ribs after stopping for the night in Cody, WY. I saw the Cody Steakhouse menu and when it said the ribs are cooked until the meat falls off the bone, I was sold. They were incredible! I don't think I've ever had ribs this good. My wife ordered the chicken gorgonzola, and loved it. The service by Vinny, our waiter, was fantastic. He came by to check on us regularly and was incredibly friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place. read more

The food was amazing and even though we sat at a table around the bar area, the ambiance was still quite enough to be enjoyable. The service was generally speaking ok, they were very busy so I give a little brevity here. The reason I am giving a four star and not a five star is because we made a reservation and when we showed up they only had one table they would sit us at and it was the tiniest little round two top quite literally right by the door. We would have been competing with everyone waiting for tables and coming and going from the establishment. I politely told them we would wait for a better table. This was at 7 on a Saturday and it only took about 15 min for a better table and that's respectable IMO for a busy Sat night. It was prom night after all. The prices are a little steep but the cattle market is through the roof right now and it is Cody, WY so I can't fault them for that. When they say sweet potato then they follow that with tater tots they meant sweet potato tater tots not two separate side choices. That was sad for me as I really wanted some mashed sweet potato for my meal and tots don't really have the same classy feel as the rest of the meal. read more

Only go here if you have no idea how to do a steak yourself because if you do you will be disappointed. Their grill was not hot enough so the steak had no char. It came out as just a light brown under cooked and under seasoned piece of warm meat. Disappointing 45th birthday meal. *update: the owner saying the grill was hot but cooled because 30 steaks on it means the grill was in fact not hot enough. And yes Julie C, no char means it's no good. I've noticed a few reviews with the same types of comments. A great steak has char. My mom, husband, and I ate dinner at Cody Steak House while in town for a tour. Things were done right here and you can truly see the pride that goes into this establishment. The staff was attentive and friendly. Despite the restaurant being busy, the operation was notably efficient - making reservations, being seated, and getting our food. What a great restaurant! We dined here twice out of the three nights we were in town the first time and the one night we were here on a recent second trip. It seems family own and the locals favorite! On our first trip, it was our first night in town and also our sons birthday ! We had a great dinner and enjoyed the buffalo ribeye (a must try!) and the fried shrimp entree but had them grilled instead of deep fried (Not a huge fan of friend food.) They had a salmon special one night and was awesome as well as the T bone pork chop which is highly recommended! There was a delicious sauce on the salmon ! Their kids menu offers several options which is appreciated ! My son loved the fish sticks ! And who can't go wrong with some French fries ! Topped it off with some desserts too! The 5 stars are strictly for our server. She has amazing customer service skills. She's very welcoming and took care of us over dinner. She suggested the creamcicle cocktails which is currently my go-to drink since we came back from vacation. The experience would get 3 stars. We were disappointed to say the least since we had been looking forward to it the entire trip. Husband and I both ordered 10 oz filets and were very happy that they were perfectly cooked. Our boys ordered the baseball cut sirloin and daughter ordered the salmon. We enjoyed our dinner entree's Dessert would get 1 star. The mousse was NOT a typical mousse that we know. It was the consistency of a cake frosting. Just stop calling it mousse. Supposedly the top spot in Cody, our conclusion is that this is just not a foodie town. It could well be the best, but I felt it would be better served with a higher quality and fewer item menu. If quantity over quality is the name of your game, then this place is for you with friendly service and ample food to make you feel satiated. However, the quality suffers with wilted bagged lettuce, "sautéed" mushrooms that clearly came from a can and fish that was dry and clearly previously frozen (but what should I expect in a small landlocked town?). Overall, food was probably two stars but service tried hard. If you are concerned about COVID, the town is generally not following strict precautions. The waitstaff did wear masks but tables feel close together particularly in the bar area. read more

I really wanted to like this place, however the food did not live up to a "steak house". Ordered the T-bone medium rare after recommendations from the staff. First it was more rare than medium and I think that contributed to much of the fat not rendering or this steak just was of poor quality and every bite had strings of inedible fat in it. Second it was not cooked over a flame or hot enough flame. No char to it and almost had a boiled look, which tells me the cooking temp wasn't high enough. Baked potato was over cooked. Salad was good as well as the wine selection. My wife had the chicken fried steak and to be honest the muddy moose cafe had a far superior and flavorful chicken fried steak. Service was great and super friendly. Thus the two stars. Maybe it was a bad night. read more

Typically rated the number one restaurant in town and recommended by all the locals. We found it to be a decent place but nothing special. The steaks were good, not great, and the service was what you'd expect from a small place where most everybody knows most everybody - but not us. The lights were very bright for a restaurant in this price range, which is a total turn off for us. Cody's not really a food town and this is typical of what we found in other places in town.
