There is a small lot that they share with the Thai place next door, and there is sometimes also street parking.

Service was good, and the baristas were all busy but took the time to greet everyone and thank them as we all picked up our orders. With no more than 4 people allowed in the shop at once, there's almost always a line in front and seating is limited to a few out in the arcade courtyard. I usually like to take my drinks to go so I can grab a pain au chocolat at C.A.R down the street but sometimes I'll linger if a table opens up. They team up with different microbakeries on weekends to host popups, my fave being crumbs and flakes, so that keeps the pastry rotation interesting. My drink of choice now, having tried a few items off the menu, will forever be their gui hua (osmanthus) latte. No one can convince me otherwise. Everyone I know who has tried it, has loved it. While there are a ton of hyped coffee shops and cafes, this one is definitely not one of them.

They hand whisk behind the bar and color is gorgeous. This is definitely one of their more expensive drinks to make, and price reflects. There's interior seating (and some outdoor), but it's usually noisy and bustling. Much better to socialize. I would take someone here to impress them, because it seems they're always in the business of impressing me.

Customer service was also really good considering it was crowded. We ordered the affogato and the banana date latte. Both which were beyond phenomenal and we are coffee snobs. The banana date latte was giving very much smoothie vibes so not a strong coffee presence and very banana forward and well, I was in LOVE. The affogato was really good because the espresso was strong and had good flavor. 10/10 recommend and will be back when I am in the area. They also sale ice cream which we didn't try but is supposed to be good so if the coffee is any indication of how the ice cream will be, I think it's worth a try.

That said, I can see how the flavor profile might not be for everyone, especially if you prefer a more traditional dark-roasted style coffee. The only downside is the parking. It's mostly street parking, and this place always seems to be busy, so finding a spot can be a bit difficult. Because of that, it's not always the easiest place for a quick coffee pickup. Still, the coffee itself is great, and this is one of the places I'd happily come back to.

Over the years, I've been incredibly honored, blessed and humbled to experience coffee in deeper way than most, locally having the experienced Thee Coffee GOATs/Royalty & LA Coffee Pioneers (Glanville & Babinski and the OG crew that includes but not limited to Jaymie Lao, Percy Ramirez, Brent Glanville, M'lissa, Sumi Ali, etc...and including so many more like Mike Phillips, Tyler Wells, Yeekai Lim, Leon Li, Frank La...I can go on and on), to which I am eternally grateful. Regrettably over the last 10 or so years, it has been my perception that much of the specialty coffee industry has: 1) capitulated to the taste buds of the casual coffee drinker (or the masses) and have abandoned their desire to change hearts and minds with education about a new wave of coffee drinking experience; 2) are shops owned and operated by people who are non coffee professionals (you know who you are!) and lack pedigree & experience. I get it. It's tiring and frustrating trying to help customers understand that what they are drinking is not "weak" coffee just because they "can't taste coffee." Youngsters want to drink their iced lattes all the while pretending to be grown ups and/or be part of some trendy shop. they take 100s of pictures of the same latte and finally post one to their intriguing Instagram story. Why? Because trendy, duh! Thank God for Sherry Gao and the undeniably talented team at Mandarin & Mandarin 2. THESE KIDS ARE BONAFIDE COFFEE PROFESSIONALS!!!! They have phenomenal coffee pedigree! If you are familiar with my senseless ramblings, or so-called "reviews", you will notice that this one lacks my customary per item ratings and elaboration. This is intentional. I got the seasonal coconut latte and I liked the espresso it was smooth and creamy. My mother got their latte with the milk tea and I personally liked it but she wasn't very happy with it. The baristas weren't accommodating about substitutions or offering to make a new drink. Each business has a right to run it the way they want but be warned that you kind of have to commit to trying something you may not like. This place gives an either you like our drinks or just don't come back type of vibe. They don't really seem to care about appeasing you. Do with that information what you will.

The food was substandard. In So Cal, we have tons of choices for this sort of food and desserts. We made the trip to Pasadena because of our experience with Nana's in Hawaii. After the ordering process, the 4 desserts we ordered took a very long time to prepare. Our situation was not unique. Many people before and after us had long faces and watched as others finally got their food. We had two lattes, a matcha soft serve and a parfait. All but soft serve were overflowing and dripping out of their cups/glasses as soon as we touched them. Despite the lattes chocolate syrups, milk and whipped cream - they somehow managed to be watery and lack taste. As for the hojicha parfait, the design of the glass was not user friendly. They are tall and narrow. Because everything was packed too tightly, it was impossible to get a spoon into the glass without things coming out of it. It was a chore and unpleasurable. I understand that using cereal is a thing for these desserts. IMO this is a very cheap and low end ingredient for something with a perceived elevated experience as Nana's tries to present. I don't believe Nana's in Hawaii had glasses, just plastic cups, so having cereal in my dessert that came in a plastic cup really didn't phase me, but with all that cereal pouring out of the glass cup as I tried to get the contents inside that tiny glass was a really frustrating experience. It just didn't add-up. It made no sense what was happening. The parfait had one small scoop of hojicha and the majority of the glass was full of plain soft serve. As I said, in So Cal we have so, so many choices. What is the point of coming to this place for vanilla soft serve? We will not be back - very disappointing. My wife and I grew up in the area, so I understand that the buildings are old, but Nana's was a new build at the time of this writing, and it looked like it had been there for a decade. I understand that there are things that can't be done about the building, but I did expect more from the interior. As the sun was blasting in my kid's faces, I noticed there were no shades. I also noticed they didn't clean their windows! Because of the sun blaring in their eyes, I then noticed the lack of finish in the window sills... I heard this was a flagship store, but sorta seems like a neglected franchise.

I have dined at countless restaurants in this area with large groups, and I have never experienced such an unreasonable policy. The service was unfriendly, inflexible, and completely lacking in basic hospitality. Instead of making guests feel welcome, the staff made us feel like an inconvenience. To make matters worse, the food was nothing special. The quality was average at best, yet the prices were significantly higher than many better restaurants nearby. A restaurant can survive average food, but it cannot survive poor customer service. Unfortunately, this place failed in both areas. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in recent years. I would give this restaurant 0 out of 10 for customer service and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.
