When I think of shaved ice, I think of Coffee Factory. I have a lot of memories of coming here and being wow-ed at how stacked their shaved ice desserts are. They always include so many toppings, and it is a great sharable dessert. On this day, two friends and I ordered a milk tea shaved ice. Service was not the friendliest, but nothing worth pointing out. They gave us a buzzer to hold onto, which alerted us when our order was ready. It took about 15 minutes, just like they told us. The indoors is pretty small and crowded, but thankfully there was an outdoor seating set up outside. Even though we just got the shaved ice, the ice cream scoop was already melting by the time we set it outside and were taking pictures. There were also some nuts, butter cookies, and tapioca, which were delicious, but the whole thing was already falling apart! It was quite sweet, but we still enjoyed it. This is probably their most popular dessert and for good reason - the fluffy green tea shaved ice comes with generous amounts of soft and chewy mochi, a small side of red bean paste, crunchy sliced almonds, a scoop of green tea ice cream, and a delicious taiyaki fish-shaped ice cream sandwich to top it all off. Every bite is a little different, and the textures all work well together. The dish is definitely best shared with others, good for about 3-4 people. I also had a latte here and thought it tasted standard, not bad but nothing special. The cafe itself is pretty relaxed and quite spacious. This ain't no artisanal coffee shop or does it try to be. It's probably on the same tier as Paris Baguette, more or less. But since there's no chain coffee shop in the area, they can charge however much they want, although their competition is merely similar cafes in the area. It also bothers me that they charge extra for almond/soy/cashew milk, as if their $4 small-sized ice-filled coffee isn't already expensive. If this place wasn't charging so much for their drinks, I think I'd come here regularly. They probably have the best workspace settings in the area, compared to the other places around--plenty of power outlets that are easy to find and you'll get privacy. Its interiors are kind of industrial-hip-chic, but who knows what its called. There's also a room further in the back with more tables, books (in Korean) and a bathroom. The bathroom is fairly clean with loud music and the sink is separate from the actual toilet. They are well known for their shaved ice desserts which is actually really good. The shaved ice is more creamy than most places rather than icey. They also typically add ice cream and other ingredients depending on the one you order. The green tea one has the samanco fish ice cream with a scoop of green tea ice cream, mochi, sliced almonds all on top of a pillowy bed of green tea shaved ice. It also comes with red bean on the side which adds lots of sweetness to the whole thing. They also have cakes here (and juniors cheesecake) which are decent. I've been coming to this cafe for a while now. coffee is very good. One star is only for one of the workers who I am assuming is the manager. Not sure what her issue is with me, but she is very short and rude with me. At first I thought it was because I don't speak Korean. But that was not the case b/c I have seen her be pleasant with non korean speaking people. The only thing I can think of was I did not give her a tip. The reason I think this is b/c one time after I paid she took the tip cup and slammed it down in front of me. I don't tip if the server is rude, not nice in general. She just has a nasty mood so why should I tip her? I still come since it is close and like I mentioned earlier the coffee tastes great. Was my first time here, I always see this place busy all year. Just curious what the hype was about. I was very thirsty, ordered the Blue Lemonade because I can't drink caffeine or alcohol. I never heard of Blue Lemonade before but sounded refreshing. Came out super quick ...in like 1 or 2 minutes. Was surprised by that. It tasted like Lemonade with sprite mixed in. They have outdoor seating that they used to section off by party but they removed the divider which kind of sucks. However, there is plenty of outdoor study space. This neighborhood is pretty much all Korean restaurants and Cafes, and it was kinda funny when we walked in, everyone sitting inside were Korean senior citizens! I also really liked how they had a small, more private section in the back that seemed like a good area to study or get work done. Menu wise, they had a decent amount of options for both drinks and desserts. The music was at a good noise level and wasnt overbearingly loud or annoying. The casheir at the front was helpful in helping to pick out options. I ordered the Curry Crochette and a Delicous hot chocolate, both of which were delicious. The Curry Crochette was room temperature and I usually like mine toasted. They were unable to do so but they were able to heat it up in the microwave. Nice and roomy Cafe with a decent number of tables. It's also pretty busy here. I came at like 10pm Sunday with a group of 6, and we were lucky to have found 2 empty tables and 6 chairs to sit. It was not long after we sat down that couple other groups of people came in and didn't really have seats. They also have a backroom where people usually sit and do their work or study and it's less noisy compared to the front of the Cafe. Drinks are good and decently priced. Somewhat cheaper than Paris baguette. I had a small matcha latte, and it was pretty good. It was sweet with a nice green tea taste. Sister had the vanilla latte and it was also OK. Came here for dessert after having dinner in the area. The venue was pretty spacious and there was even a section in the rear for studying and reading, as well as a clean restroom. Everything was kept relatively clean and the staff were friendly. I had their green tea ice flake, which was big enough to share. It came with green tea flavored shaved ice, a scoop of green tea ice cream, roasted almond slices, mochi pieces, a Samanco fish and red bean paste on the side. Everything was pretty delicious to satisfy my sweet tooth and I especially liked the soft mochi pieces that complemented the crunch of the almond slices wonderfully. The patbingsu wasn't overly sweet and I really enjoyed it. Overall, I enjoyed my first experience here at Coffee Factory and I look forward to returning whenever I am craving dessert in the area. The desserts and coffee are mediocre. The worst is the customer service. I ordered a hot drink that was spilling over the top. While trying to pick up the drink, it spilled over on my hand and when I jerked my hand back in reaction, the counter staff rolled her eyes and said that it wasn't hot and that I should just drink the top to avoid spilling. I said no, because this hot drink was JUST made, and there was a customer behind me waiting to order. When I grabbed a napkin to clean myself up and carry the drink back to my table, I heard the staff member say "so dramatic" and saw her shake her head. Just to note, the drink was hot enough that it left a red mark on my hand. Staff is so disrespectful and had ZERO customer service skills. I saw many great reviews about ice flakes (bingsu) so I decided to stop by. Regrets. Much regret. Upon entering the store approximately 30-40 minutes before their posted closing time, the employee at the register noticed I was looking at the bingsu menu and told me that they're currently not making them. Although a table of 4 sitting by the window clearly ordered a bingsu not too long ago.. I mean, that's cool though. I've worked at a cafe and restaurant before. And by the looks of it, you tend to stop making more "complicated" items after a certain time because you're just too lazy to clean again and you want to go home. So what now? I either leave or change my order, in which I did. Ordered 2 açaí bowls, 1 dragon fruit bowl, and a dragon fruit smoothie. Considering how much they advertise these things around the store, I had high hopes. Man was I wrong. At first glance when I received the bowls, you can instantly tell it was not made properly. It was all melted and had the consistency of water. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I took the bowls home to freeze them. Took them back out of the freezer to give them a try. They tasted like UNDERRIPE BANANAS BLENDED WITH WATER. That's it. Everything, absolutely everything tasted like bananas. Even with actual berries floating around in this soupy bowl, it's just banana.. So disappointed... Needless to say, 3 bowls, 1 smoothie, 1 muffin and a little bag of cookies costed about $50. Mind you, the bowls are extremely small. Also, the employees couldn't even tell me whether or not the muffin contained peanuts. I truly appreciate their honestly when they said "I don't know" and "I'm not sure." But if your job is to handle food, shouldn't you at least know the basic ingredients your products contain? I finally had an opportunity to visit because my friend had to pick up something in Queens. It was worth the rush hour traffic! Around the neighborhood itself, there are plenty of free parking spots - you just have to keep your eyes open. I chose this spot specifically for the green tea shaved snow dessert. It is not on the menu behind the counter, but ask the employees and they'll know exactly what you want! It's pricey for what it is, but definitely instagrammable and worth it if you want to impress a date! We shared it between the two of us, but it could have easily been split three or four ways. We're just dessert monsters. I really appreciated the presentation of the dessert and the obvious care that was put into making the ice cream bear (the placement of chocolate chips was on point), and I also liked that it was overall a really light dessert. None of the components were too sweet, however the red bean side helps to add a little bit of additional sweetness if that is what you are looking for! As for drinks, they brew stumptown coffee here, so if you are coffee snob, you are in luck! I love the ambience of the cafe. There are plenty of seats in the front and in the back. Also came with a side of red beans (paht) and a cream and sweet red bean paste filled fish waffle. Absolute deliciousness. I don't understand how anyone can not like this. Pricey. I came here based on the Yelp reviews and pictures. I tried the green tea shaved ice cream and the caramel macchiato. The four stars are for the customer service, ambiance and cleanliness. This is located in a quiet neighborhood... it actually seems kind of too quiet. We didn't even realize that the coffee place is located there. The ice cream was good, not too sweet, which I like. However, it was a HUGE portion and not cheap. Maybe it is meant to be shared, but i feel like they should offer smaller portions. The ice cream fish cone was pretty stale, I was looking forward to eating it. It came with a sude of red beans, which I did not touch. The coffee beverages were amazing. I ask for very little caramel and that's what they gave me so I definitely appreciate that. I didn't think to ask if they had alternative milk options such as coconut milk or soy milk. A bingsoo to end all bingsoos--in sheer size. I got the #3 Matcha Ice Flakes, topped with mochi, almonds, & a taiyaki filled with red bean and ice cream. From the looks of the reviews and pictures it's what most people get. I wanna tell you to it's worth $14 & the pictures, but it just was okay. Highbrow: the ice flakes are fluffy, the matcha is matcha-y & overall not too sweet at all, even with the matcha ice cream scoop. It's definitely matchauthentic. The mochi is chewy and the almonds really compliment the flavors. That taiyaki is super cute while also being super delicious. I wish you could just buy it separately as a snack. The cafe is cute and spacious with an area for laptops. Lowbrow: It's pretty far into Flushing, accessible by car only. You can't mix flavors 1/2 & 1/2.
