Bulgogi Cheese Toast & White Mocha Latte (M)
    Lovell W.

Love the Bulgogi Cheese Toast at this location. I got the same sandwich at the other location on northern blvd, but it wasn't the same. I've been going to Canaan for years (before I even moved to Flushing since they have a location in Nassau County). Use to wake up early to get the majority of the Walnut Macaroons to take to work. They have a small parking lot, and most of the customers are in and out.

This is the bakery that introduced me to the mochi donut. So many Yelpers have written reviews about them, so I had to try one myself. I chose the S'mores mochi for its fancy design and chocolate content. It was rather good. If I am ever in Flushing again, I will stop by Canaan to try some other delectable items on the menu. I highly recommend.

"To Canaans land I'm on my way..." A little Sunday spiritual tune to set the tone. All the food here looks pretty fresh and delicious as they offer bagels, breads, pastries, mochi donuts and fresh made to order sandwiches. We came for the Korean toast sandwiches and were not disappointed. They make a nice sizeable sandwich for the price. They pack the toast with enough eggs, cheese, carrots, coleslaw and your choice of protein. When the sandwich is completely assembled, my first words uttered out of my mouth " Wow, that's a big hearty sandwich!" Grab a cup of coffee as the roast is robust and rich with light bitter notes. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. A small parking lot is available and maneuvering around your vehicle into a spot can be challenging. Many food options to choose from makes this place a great spot

Got the egg sandwiches, one is bacon ham and chipotle mayo and the other is egg salad sandwich with orange lemonade sparkling drink.

When you step into the restaurant it's already busy with local patrons and there is a wealth of pastries and desserts. The sandwich is very comforting on a fall day and the drink was very refreshing.

Their bagel is so heavy, dry, and chewy. I love their mocha cream bread and walnut cream bread. But this time I order tgtg, they gave me 5 bagel, it was so heavy, and when I ate them this morning, the bagel is so hard, and blend, little disappointed.

Canaan Bread has a few locations throughout Flushing along with one in Long Island. Today was the grand opening for this location! They have an extended menu which includes a lot of breakfast items, bagels, toasts, and sandwiches. I'm a fan of their Egg Salad Hotdog which contains eggs, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, raisins, and carrots. Their Potato Croquettes are usually a solid choice as well. Don't like either of those? They have various breads available for you to select! Today, I purchased their Strawberry Ade and their Lavender Lemonade. Both were pretty refreshing, although I do wish the Strawberry Ade was a bit more carbonated. I wanted to try their Sweet Potato Latte but was told that they will have it available starting Monday. I am on an adventure to find the best Sweet Potato Latte in NY! There is seating available indoors and they have parking available in front of their store. Will definitely be back to try the other drinks in the future!

Loved this place. The staff are SO NICE. We came in an hour before closing and they asked if we wanted two free donuts bc they were closing soon. The girls were so sweet. I also got a strawberry lemonade. Both were great! Definitely will come back

Looking at the pic I took still makes me say yum! Stopped in one morning for a quick bite before a long drive, and ordered a Katsu sandwich at the counter. The staff was so friendly and even though I thought it took a normal amount of time, she gave me a bun on the house for the "long wait." How unexpected and nice! The sandwich was enough for two ppl to share and be satisfied. Delicious sauce and ample cutlet. Super easy on the go. I didn't get to try their fancy pastries but they have a lot on display as well. They also have a lot of cool bagels that seemed freshly made. Would definitely return!

I came here for the egg toast. They had a coupon which gave me a free drink. The iced latte was good, it didn't suck, but then again how do you screw up drinks? Don't answer that. I got the kalbi toast. There is no egg. It really tastes like a burger but with toast. The patty had onions in it. It had ketchup and pickles. There was no egg. But to be fair they did show the picture and there was no egg. Don't be surprised if there is no egg. The avocado toast does have an egg. And lots of carrots. A lot of carrots. I didn't expect that. But overall it was good. The donuts they had were good. Then again it's hard to say a place has the best mochi donuts. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They're closed on Sunday. So you'll have to get your breakfast fic elsewhere.

Solid whole wheat bagel and amazing egg salad. Slightly sweeter than normal egg salad that's more similar to Asian style :)

Love this bakery. Everything is fresh and delicious. Love that they have brealfast choices for the morning and the best, all fresh baked goods made daily. Their mochi donuts are out of this world too. Keep up the amazing work!

Don't miss out on their egg toasts! Definitely try all their toast but my go to is the bacon egg and cheese toast.

I am a fan of the pandan flavor desserts and bought two that I wanted to try. One being a roll cake and the other layer cake. The pandan roll cake with taro I was told is a specialty that they only have on weekends. It was really flavorful, moist and spongy, just perfectly touched with a dash of sweetness in both the cake and the cream - I personally don't like overly sweet foods, and this is just perfect for me and my mom. I'm equally pleased with the layer cake as well it was very fresh and have that "QQ" texture - deliciously chewy and bouncy. This too, just hit right for me on the gentle sweetness, the pandan flavor keeping the spotlight in this dessert. My mom and I are big fans of these desserts. We just came back trying out others pandan layer cakes in Downtown Flushing and this shop beats them by a large margin. I hope to come back more when we could even though this shop is quite a distance for us.

I walked into a clean, well lit space designed for quick selection rather than lingering, and the display cases were filled with brightly decorated cakes and pastries that looked consistently fresh. The mango based cakes are the most consistent thing here. I tried one and found it light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which made it easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also worked well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that held its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory sweet options, and they came out better than I expected since they did not go overboard on sweetness. The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissant I had was flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tart was best eaten warm as the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if I want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes. Service was generally efficient even when the bakery was busy, and the staff moved through orders quickly. Prices sit a bit higher than older style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh looking cakes. For a modern bakery stop in Flushing, Shakalaka delivers on quality and visual appeal.

At $2.95 each I got a baked roast pork bun, and a pineapple topping custard bun. Both were very big and every component was high-quality. The pork inside was a natural looking sauce - not bright red, the pork was cut up into regular pieces/strips it was like a healthy meal. The bread part was fluffy, dense and didn't feel like an empty white flour situation. The custard bun had a very generous amount of a custard in it and the pineapple topping didn't crumble off and fall off into pieces, but was very nicely made shell. And it was "Not-too-Sweet"! AND they were also warm! The shop's pretty simple with maybe 10 different items, also frozen baos to go, lotus wrapped sticky rice and tarts, the homemade pineapple cakes looked good. I got a Hong Kong milk tea (hot) $2.25, but the flavors weren't that strong. There were a lot of students picking up snacks, probably from nearby Queens, College, young families, a grandpa and his adult grandson came in for hot milk tea, and egg tarts. The lady who I assume is the boss said she had held a pop-up shop about two years prior which blew up, hence what we see here. The selection here was deceptively small compared to chain bakeries, but it didn't take us long recognise how much power the smaller selection packs and, actually, how the selection really is not small at all. The matcha red bean loaf grabbed my attention straight away and didn't disappoint, but their red bean bun was just as impressive, as it's a more bread-y counterpart to the fluffy versions other bakeries typically have. The onioissant is definitely experimental and worked better on the chive bacon cream cheese one than on the pollack roe, which was a bit too much on the salty and fishy side for my liking. Their chocolate horn is at least twice as big as a typical one you'll find at other bakeries and has a rich dark chocolate filling which was a pleasant surprise. Their coffee brioche pastry was another hit, thanks to the strong coffee filling and delicate layers of pastry. There's ample tables and chairs, beverage menu, and I'm sure we'd come hang if we lived closer. I can't wait to go back.
