Each visit included a urine test, internal and external sonograms -- all of which felt more like requirements than options. It quickly became clear that they try to schedule as many appointments as possible, likely to bill more. Even after my pregnancy was confirmed, they kept asking me to return -- sometimes every other week -- for unnecessary follow-ups. Each visit involved at least an hour-long wait. I was initially told the practice was in-network with my insurance. However, after a few visits, I started receiving unexpectedly high bills. I was then informed I needed to sign over the insurance reimbursement checks directly to them. I did this for a few visits, but eventually stopped going because it felt like they were more focused on billing than care. Even after providing them with all the checks I received, I'm still being sent bills. I contacted their billing department multiple times -- first in November, when they told me it was just an automated message and not to worry, and now again, only to be told I need to contact my insurance and have the checks reissued. Save yourself the stress and go with another practice. This one has been nothing but a hassle.

He seemed very knowledgeable, and always explained clearly during visits test results, what was going on, what to expect, etc... he is associated with Mt. Sinai West, and we liked that hospital very much during an orientation session. However, Dr. Sohan was a no show for appointments multiple times. 3 times, in fact. For that I mean that my wife would go to the office for an appointment, wait until about 45 minutes after the appointment time, then ask the people at the front desk just to be told : "Oh Dr. Sohan is not coming today". I understand that, as a doctor, medical emergencies can happen at any time. What is unacceptable is that you don't notify your patients that you have to cancel an appointment. What is unacceptable is when this happens multiple times. When confronted, Dr. Sohan seemed more surprised of our reaction than anything. We never got an apology, and the most we got was: "I'll talk to the people at the front desk". Which he likely never did, as the same thing happened 3 times. I guess Dr. Sohan doesn't realize that people have jobs, and that to see a doctor they often have to take time off, at their own expenses. 3 missed appointments means 3 half days off from work and 3 half days of missed salaries and wages. Moreover, every time Dr. Sohan said he would call us to let us know about test results in between visits, he never did. We always had to call the front desk to solicit a call. In the end, after the third time Dr. Sohan was a no-show to an appointment without letting us know, we decided that was enough. We started to worry that he may be a no-show for the delivery as well. At that point my wife was past 28 weeks, and unfortunately most OB/GYNs in NYC do not take patients who are past 28 weeks. We didn't know that, and finding a new doctor who would take my wife was no easy task. We eventually found a midwife practice that did take my wife as a new patient, and I wish we had made the switch way sooner. Even at that point Dr. Sohan's office was resistant in forwarding all the medical information to the new doctor. We called, the new doctor called, but it was only after the records department at the new hospital intervened that Dr. Sohan's office finally forwarded my wife's medical information to our new doctor. Pregnancy is stressful enough without the added stress of an OB/GYN you can't trust.

Two weeks later, I called and they again said someone would call me back, which they never did. I called once again a week later and finally got a hold of someone. I got set up with Dr. Tendai Chiware and we met and she seemed overall nice and professional. Being a novice about fertility treatments I didn't know that this would be one of only a few times I would interact with her or any doctors again at this clinic while receiving treatment there for over a year. Everything is handled mostly by nurses, technicians, and administrative staff. If I ever had an issues with insurance or billing, Daniela, the manager for the clinic tried to handle them in a professional and timely manner, but it was apparent she was overwhelmed with lots of problems at the clinic. Once IVF started, I was told I would have to do lots of monitoring at 5am in the morning in Forest Hills and travel to Brooklyn if I needed appointments during the weekend. The technician Michelle came late a lot of the times. She was unapologetic and left women waiting outside the building at 5am in the morning. She is their traveling technician and monitoring was only from 5-6:30am at Forest Hills and sometimes there would be a long line of women waiting outside in the cold. Dr. Chiware told me I could call or email her and she would get back to me during the process of stimming/ IVF yet she never did. All I got were calls from nurses who did not help much. I was in a lot of pain during stimming and I was told over and over again just to take Tylenol. On the day of my egg retrieval, I saw Dr. Chiware again and she did my procedure. When I woke up she told me the number of eggs retrieved and that I had a lot of fluid in my abdomen. I told her I was in pain and she said she would write me a prescription. She never did and I was sent home. I felt very sick on the car ride home and I knew something wasn't right. By the end of the night, I was gasping for air and in severe pain. My husband called the emergency line and again a nurse said just give her Tylenol. I should have been instructed to go to the emergency room. I was so shaken up and traumatized by the experience I left Genesis forever. I banned Genesis from ever calling me again and they were only allowed to speak to my husband. It took 2 therapists to convince me to try IVF again. After recovering, I spent 6 months consulting at all the top-notch fertility clinics in New York including RMA, Cornell, CCRM, and NY Fertility. All the doctors agreed, I probably had internal bleeding after my egg retrieval at Genesis and should have instructed me to go to the emergency room. I don't blame Genesis for not having a baby, but the treatment I received there was horrendous. I also had a Saline Sonogram with Dr. Kotlyar where no pain/anxiety medication was given to me and he spent almost 45 minutes trying to insert the catheter while a nurse and my husband pushed down on my abdomen as hard as they could. It was outrageous and painful! So again, I tell my story so no one ever has to go through what I went through at this fertility clinic. And now I would like to publicly say that my current doctor is kind, professional, and I get to see her every time I go in, even for monitoring!!! Her name is Dr. Vidya Palta from New York Fertility and she is literally down the street from Genesis Fertility in Forest Hills. Please give her a shot because I'm telling you she is my fertility savior. I would like to mention Gail from the lab and most nurses from Genesis were nice and professional. However, I don't know what kind of culture Richard Grazi has created at Genesis, but it is not tailored to individual patient care, but seems catered to getting as many patients in at once for profit. Dr. Kofinas examined me and discovered that I had many more fibroids than I had known about and a significant amount of endometriosis that I had not known about at all. He seemed confident that this was the reason I wasn't getting pregnant and we quickly scheduled my surgery to correct these issues. I can't explain the emotion and relief I felt to finally feel like there was a reason for my lack of success and not just "unexplained infertility ", the diagnosis that my previous doctor had given me. I had proceeded with multiple egg retrievals and finally a successful embryo transfer a few months ago! Through the entire process the professionalism and kindness and personalized approach to myself and every patient was exceptional. The surgery office by Wall Street also really makes you feel safe and comfortable, and the surgery staff and anesthesiologists are wonderful. My husband and I struggled with poor genetic quality with the embryos we produced, and Dr. Kofinas recommended trying PRP in my ovaries. Unfortunately, due to their poor receptionists they lost a potential patient because of careless mistakes. I called on this past Monday to inquire if they were accepting new clients and accepted my new New York insurance. Wanita, who I spoke to said Dr. Goncharov did not, and I could see one of the nurses Marina instead who is in the office on Fridays in Manhattan. She scheduled me in for the same week on Friday. She needed to validate my insurance number (which I did not have at the time), and asked me to call back the next day. The following day, I called the office with the information and a different woman I spoke to had no idea who I was and had no idea about my appointment on Friday. First red flag. So I rebooked the appointment for the same time, and confirmed that they accepted the insurance. She said yes. This morning (Friday) hours before my appointment, I receive a phone call from Wanita asking for my insurance phone number because she has never seen the insurance before and was not sure if they accepted it after both of them confirmed they did. Is it that difficult to perform a Google search to contact them? Once again, I did not have the card on me and had to call her back with the telephone number, and wait for her to call me back 2 hours before the appointment to confirm if I could even go there. She said that Marina only took it (yes, we already established this and thats why the appointment was with her), but she wouldn't be in the office today. WTF? I had to cancel all of the arrangements I made to come into the office after I had already took the afternoon off of work to come in. Oh, and it gets worse. Wanita said that Marina is sometimes in the office on Fridays, but really had no idea if she would be there the following week or any future Friday in fact. It is a yes or no question after you look at the doctor's calendar. Seriously? Red flag after red flag, I finally said "I'll go somewhere else". It shouldn't take six phone calls to schedule an appointment. If they can't do that right, I'm not really sure if I'd want to trust them with my billing or body.
