Service here is always friendly ( and patient, because the decisions are difficult with so many choices). I love the old school style of the bakery where you can see the products being produced. Since I was in the area visiting wanted to try here, I do agree parking for here does suck, but lucky enough it was a slow day so the street was empty. I pretty good selection of baked goods and I was deciding on what to get, I did feel a little rushed in making a decision, but once more customers came in, that went away from them. I will give them credit putting old stuff in sale like the tiramisu cake slices which I got and was really good, definitely recommend. Now the gingerbread cookies, nah those were pretty abyssal, dry and honestly would been flatter if they dry, plus the flavor was very muted. The rainbow cookies, were amazing, very chocolatey and love the raspberry and almond flavors, plus very soft and moist. Would have try the dining area for lunch and breakfast menu stuff on another visit. read more

Historic Cohen's Bakery just gets better and better. Excellent food, especially deli sandwiches and the famous raisin pumperknickel bread (a favorite take home.) Busy this time of year with the added value of outdoor seating outside the recently rennovated building. I was here on a Monday so the place was moderately busy. The service was fine and food was excellent and resonably priced. I found the staff very responsive and polite. read more

The service was terrible and the staff was extremely rude. We had to just leave. We came on a Sunday, early afternoon and checked in with a hostess to be seated. When she told us to just hold on a few minutes we waited by where the hostess was and then was greeted by what appeared to be the owner who yelled and scolded us for being in her way. She told us to go outside and just wait. But did so yelling and shaking her head at us. We left and went up the block to "Morning Sunshine." Go there instead! If I could leave less than 1 star I would We arrived for lunch during the Borscht Belt festival. There was a long line but our party was #2. There were 2 clean, open tables available and one un-bussed table for two. A very rude, nasty elderly man in his 80's did not care that my 86 year old mother could not stand in the hot sun for a long period and while the other 3 of us waited patiently, she perched on a chair at the unbussed table. He was angry with her. Then, a couple appeared out of nowhere and sat down at the other table for 4. We tried to argue that they should get the table for 2 and we were waiting but Mister Nasty said "we have no bus staff and only a few waitresses" - on the weekend of the biggest annual festival in the town? Ridiculous. They had 2 staff sitting outside hawking half loaves of pumpernickel rye bread for $5.00 We left Cohens and ended up having an excellent lunch down the block at Arianna's pizza place. The food is impeccable, meaning you can't get it fresher and more satisfying. The service was quick, professional and very friendly. The ambiance was a bit noise youth breakfast rushes can be. Bought a dozen bagels for a friends birthday & found sharp piece of metal cooked in one of the bagels. Took it back to show owners, got a shoulder shrug & a nothing I can do. However, looks like sharp piece off the machinery. Beware as this would have perforated your insides or broke a tooth and all you'll get is a shoulder shrug. Got there at 2pm for lunch. I can't comment on the food, because we never got to order any. The service is non-existent. Apparently there is no bussing staff and only 4 servers for 4 rooms. We didn't sit for 15 minutes, after we saw 2 people sat down with take out food. The one staff did nothing to get them out. We walked out. Small town, big breakfast, nice people! I came early for a Sunday morning breakfast of blueberry pancakes, eggs, and coffee. This is a great place to take family for breakfast or just grab and go with a takeout order. Coffee is good while the people are the best. Mi gente! I wish I knew about the additional seating sand outdoor seating area, but we sat just off the bakery. The other areas would have been better. Our lunches: Chicken wrap with roasted red peppers, spinach, Italian dressing and side salad was good. Lemonade- delicious. Iced tea - perfect and I enjoyed my delicious Hot pastrami Reuben sandwich with coleslaw and Dill pickle. I saw they are famous for raisin pumpernickel bread so I bought a half loaf and tried it a few hours later with butter.... Very interesting and good! read more

Always supporting local family owned businesses. I've been coming here since I was a little kid, i love the place!! I've seen it go through several remodels and even an ownership change and the food remains just as delicious as it's always been. A great selection of baked goods, deli sandwiches, and sit-down dining. The staff is extremely friendly, they know their regulars and always provide the best service to everyone. My personal recommendations are the chocolate almond horn, the dipped mini cookies, and the fresh churros they have every Sunday morning! read more

An icon in Ellenville since the 1920s, we stopped by for lunch before seeing a show in town. That bakery will amaze you and you'll want everything you see! Make sure to try and buy their raisin pumpernickel bread, OMG! Now back to lunch, we shared a lox platter and enjoyed every morsel!! The capers, the cucumber, the onion, lettuce, cream cheese and the generous portion of lox made for two wonderful tasty sandwiches. Cohen's Bakery is a must stop if you're in Ellenville! We keep giving this place a chance BUT ARE CONTINUALLY DISAPPOINTED! The service is the ONLY thing that's nice ... (poor ladies, they look like they're about to cry...) The food is mediocre- it looks cute for the photo maybe, but it tastes terrible. We asked for French Toast w eggs on the side (Eggs were ON TOP of French Toast and broken which made the food wet - A TOTAL pet peeve for the kid) & they were NOT French Toast BUT JUST stained Bread!!! SUPER DRY- Photo included. The Pancakes are crazy THIN and extremely hard - Even hard to cut with a knife!!! That's just ridiculous! When we mentioned this to the lady who owns this place... You would think she would express some interest in trying to make things right... NOPE! Instead she went ahead saying - "THAT'S HOW WE MAKE THEM HERE! What else?..." In a very firm & obnoxious tone. - We we're shocked! Not to mention that as we were giving our order to the lady helping us, this woman INTERRUPTED her and ordered her to go to another table and take care of them instead NOW and walked away... Again, the waitress, which seemed extremely uncomfortable with her behavior, continued with our order. (We we're a group of 9) My Eggs Benedict were ehhh... English muffins were burnt, therefore hard to cut with a knife and hurt my mouth. I could go on, but would honestly just waste my time. I had heard about this notable bakery from friends in the area, so I had to try it out. Sure enough, after driving at least 30 minutes out of my way to get there, they were sold out of the famous raisin pumpernickel loaves by lunchtime! (Note to self: next time, call ahead.) But they had a walnut raisin pumpernickel loaf, and quite frankly, I think I like that just as much as the pure raisin. These breads are very dark, with a appropriately dense, moist crumb. The raisins and walnuts were there in a generous amount; I wouldn't have wanted more. There's a sweetness to the raisins, but the bread itself isn't really sugary, so it's a perfect balance. They did have the raisin pumpernickel for sandwiches, so I was still able to get it as a mixed cheese with the works for takeout. One of the most nicely constructed sandwiches I think I've ever had. They're not cheap, but you really get value for what you pay. Counter staff was very pleasant and attentive. Update: happened through Ellenville last (Saturday) night, and although they said they're usually closed by 5:30pm, they were doing some cleanup and staying open late, so I was able to snag the last raisin pumpernickel loaf of the day. Cohen's is a lovely spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Their baked goods are as fresh as you would expect and the rest of their food is very good. But what makes Cohen's outstanding is the wait staff. They are attentive without being intrusive. I have to remember to go there more often. read more

Ordered a birthday cake on Monday for pickup on Friday. Got a phone call 3 hours before pick up time that they couldn't make the cake I ordered. I expressed my disappointment over the phone and in person and requested the cake be decorated with rainbow theme. Was offered no discount, or anything for the poor service. Won't be back. read more

This was a random stop on a road trip and we were so pleased to have found it. Seating is available indoors or outdoors - we sat outside on a lovely day. You can also order bread and pastries in the bakery if you're not in the mood for a sit-down meal. The menu says it's the home of the famous raisin-pumpernickel bread so obviously I had to try it - very good! I actually wish I'd gotten a loaf to go. Has always been worth our trip! My hubby had a BLT and said he thought it was the best he'd ever had?! Must have been 1/4 pound of bacon! I love the simple eggs over medium with ham, toast and crispy home fries and it's always cooked perfectly!
