The reviews are not exaggerating. This is the actual best bakery I've ever been to. We arrived there like 5 minutes before they closed, and everything looked great so I wound up buying two giant sea salt/chocolate chip cookies, a kitchen sink cookie, a sprinkle cookie, and a small yellow/vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. I regret not taking better photos, but at least I got a quick shot of the delightful cake. It was all absurdly good. I can't get over how fluffy the frosting is and how perfect the cookie textures are. The woman working was also really nice and, despite it being the end of the day, I didn't feel at all rushed or like she just wanted to close up. Here's how much we loved it: My husband and I went there yesterday while on a weekend trip. Today, we had to get back home fast to beat the snowstorm, and we seriously considered just risking it and driving out of our way to go back here. We didn't (safety first, etc) but we've decided to order our wedding cake from this place *and* our wedding favors. Seriously, everyone should go to this place. With so many Cake, Pie, Cookie and Sweets options here in Woodstock, (and every where else for that matter), this tidy little place keeps it simple. With only about a dozen options, it's easy to choose. The picture of the "Salty Chocolate Chunk" made it a no brainer. Second cookie was the "Chocolate Chocolate Chip". Both were incredibly good, but if I had to pick one, it would be the one on the sign out front. With every bite, you could taste the salt, butter, chocolate and sugar. Washed them down with a double espresso. Next time I'll have a piece of cake, while sitting outside under an umbrella. read more

I remembered a really good cookies. It was one of the best chocolate chip cookies. It was my daughter's birthday over the weekend so we got a chocolate cake. The cake was more on the dense size. Dang these cookies are good!!! They look fairly thin and crunchy but they have a good level of moisture and chewyness as well. We tried the kitchen sink and an almond raspberry thumbprint cookie. The kitchen sink cookie was amazing, buttery and sweet with the perfect balance of salt. Two cookies set us back $8 and change, which seemed a bit steep but also maybe typical for sweet treats nowadays. The inside was clean with a few areas for seating and the cakes in the case were screaming my name. Will def be back to try more! read more

Not sure what everyone is raving about, unless I ordered the wrong things? Everything sure looked delicious - we bought a kitchen sink cookie studded with adorable little pretzels, a jam thumbprint and a sprinkle cookie. All of them were so sweet we couldn't eat more than a bite, leaden and greasy, too. And the kitchen sink cookie was too salty. Just too much of everything. What a disappointment! read more

Charming little spot to sit and look out the window and feast on assorted deliciousness. If there's one thing we can all agree on- desserts are amazing. Right? Well...depends where you get them from. Overlook Bakery, on Tinker St in Woodstock, only focuses on two things: cakes and cookies. Most of what I got in the cookie category, was tasty. Overlook B's design is minimal with blush pinks, has an almost blond-color counter with a glass screen dividing you and their buttery sweets. Unique touches of gold, pop up here and there, with a seashelly-type wall hanging that adds a 'what's that'? Overlook B. straight up smells of butter+sugar. Perfect combo! But in Woodstock fashion, there are Vegan options as well. The cookie and cake selections are varied and baked in house mind you with unique ingredients. For instance, there was a Tahini cookie, a Chai snickerdoodle and a Salty Chocolate Chunk cookie. The guy working here was super pleasant and patient as I tried to decide what other goodies I wanted- but settled on a few to start. Between the apricot thumbprint I got, my 2 salty bittersweet chocolate chunks and the chai cookie I also got, if I could do it all over again (which I will), I'd pick the first two. The Thumbprints had that tarty apricot jam which paired perfectly with the cookie's sweetness. The Salty chocolate Chunk had a whole vibe going in that cookie I swear. Do understand, this isn't that type of ultra ooey-gooey cookie either. The center of this cookie, is tender+moist and the edges are crispy- but not break-teeth crispy. They're fine as they are- but I popped mine in the toaster oven to get it warmed and that baby was fantastic. The chai cookie had a wonderful taste- but it was my least favorite because of the cake-type feel. Even for my first visit, Overlook Bakery brings a whole new meaning to cookie comfort in Woodstock. And since I'll be 6 minutes away, this will be habit-forming. read more

I ordered a fun confetti cake for my boyfriend's birthday, which I emailed them a picture with a long paragraph describing exactly what I wanted. I wish I can place pictures on here of the photo I sent and the cake I had received. I was so disappointed because it was the total opposite of what I had requested and I was coming in late from out of town so I had no other option to try and fix it. The frosting was not smooth, and the handwriting and designs were terrible. The actual cake itself was okay, bit on the dry side though. Rosie took great care of us. We were coming to the Catskills for a hiking / birthday adventure. A few weeks before our arrival I asked if Overlook would bake a pistachio cake. It was a yes! We picked up the cake and cookies and were greeted with a smile. The cake was perfect. It looked and tasted amazing. The inside of Overlook is so nice and clean. Plenty of GF / V options, and I'd go as far as to say the Tahini Chunk is the best gluten free approximation of a chocolate chip cookie I've ever had, but also it's got its own identity, too. The cakes are ridiculously delicious as well as beautiful, they have something for everybody and, yes, the gluten-free and sugar-free items taste just like all of the rest. You absolutely can't go wrong. And, for us Southerners who grew up also in New York or spend time in both areas, it's very hard to find the real buttercream.... We had the pleasure of Overlook Bakery cupcakes and cake at our wedding. We had ~60 guests, and purchased 120 cupcakes. They were demolished during the reception, and the departing guests were all too happy to clear up the few remaining; we ended up with just two for our personal enjoyment, and my husband personally reserved those. Ordering was easy, and owner was very accommodating with respect to allergies. One guest could not have cinnamon, one couldn't have eggs, one was gluten-free, a few were lactose intolerant and there were some vegetarians. The chocolate gluten-free cupcakes were amazing, the vanilla cupcakes had no cinnamon, and I heard 5 separate people compliment the carrot cake cupcakes. I'm so grateful that we found this place. They were even willing to deliver at a reasonable rate to Windham for our wedding, and were on time. Note that we also bought some cupcakes prior to their wedding at the venue in Woodstock, which is very pretty. The staff I have met are all nice and clearly love working there. read more
