Update my review of Cohen's Fashion Optical experience: They are awesome! Always liked the staff. But today I met the owner. My initial review of this place was not satisfactory. And he told me they take these reviews seriously and wanted to make amends. I wasn't really interested in them doing anything else, but he genuinely prefers a satisfied customer. He personally helped me at the counter and I left with a second pair of readers to be picked up later. Yes, I'm satisfied because they cared. So because of that I am saying I prefer to keep coming here for my prescription lenses and frames than any other place. read more

Cohen's Fashion Optical is a well-organized store with a good selection of glasses. Prices do seem a bit higher than some other places, but the selection is solid. The staff up front were helpful, honest, and friendly. My wife saw Dr. Goodman, who was great -- very nice, clear, patient, and honest. It was a really good visit with her. The main downside was the wait time. I was told it was due to the appointment before us running long, but it ended up being about an hour and fifteen minutes before she was seen for her exam. Overall, still a good experience and solid service, just plan extra time in case things run behind. read more

I ordered prescription sunglasses at the Nanuet store. They contacted me when the glasses were ready. I told them I would not have my car for another two weeks so couldn't pick them up immediately as I lived in Croton which was not close. I asked if they could possibly mail them to me. Much to my surprise the woman on the phone said she lived near me and would drop them off after work that evening. Now that is what I call fabulous customer service. I walked in this establishment and was greeted by a pleasant lady, very welcoming and nice, her co worker on the other hand was very unwelcoming. He did not greet me when I walked in, just gave me a hateful look. As I was leaving the lady thanked me and told me to feel free to come in anytime for adjustments, her colleague told me it was best to come when they were closed, as if he didn't want my business, shocked I stopped and turned around in disbelief and he repeated it again, best time for you to come back is when we are closed. I smiled and told him to have a great day. i could hear the lady tell him he shouldn't be saying that, which I appreciated. I'm spending money in this establishment, I don't deserved to be treated this way because of the color of my skin. read more

Before I start this review, been here before and they have been amazing with a good selection of eyeglasses, and they offer sunglasses too. Unfortunately, I cannot use them for myself anymore because my insurance Anthem plus medicaid doesn't cover them for some reason. Which is kind of annoying because in the past I had a good experience here, and we want to keep having good experiences right? Anyways, Went here recently on Tuesday June 10th 2025 with my parents. They came here for eye exams, and to pick out new glasses. I came along for the ride to help them pick out frames. They were taken quickly and easily in the back for eye exams. The guy in the front was very pleasant and helped provide feedback to my mom as far as which frames looked the best, especially for sunglasses. They did have a decent selection- seemed like their selection did get smaller, but that's just the frames that were on display on the front rack. What matters is both my mom and dad found pairs of glasses that they liked, and they were also a decent price too. They said that glasses will be ready within a week, and within 2 days, they were ready to be picked up! Overall staff was very pleasant! highly recommend if your insurance covers it! read more

My glasses weren't sitting properly on my face, so I went in to get them fixed. I handed a man my glasses he then walked into a backroom with them and came back. He said to me the frame couldn't handle the pressure and showed me my now broken glasses. No problem though, before I could say anything he was already offering to sell me a new frame. read more

The ONLY reason I am even giving this place 1 star is for the receptionist they had working when I went for my appointment on 5/20/15, and the fact giving 0 stars is not an option. Other than that this place needs to be avoided. The only reason I went is because I found a great groupon, I work nearby, and they got me in for an appointment same day. I paid $40 for an eye exam and $200 towards a pair of frames. I paid an extra $50 for a contact exam, and another extra $128 for the lenses on the $200 frames I picked out. This put me at almost $250. The doctor is an older man, sweet demeanor at first glance but a very condescending tone and comments were made throughout my exam. He was not very nice to me at all and made me feel uncomfortable. Also I have scarring on my right eye from a past bacterial infection that I know about from past appointments at my previous eye doctor. He mentioned nothing of that and sent me on my way after my exam with an "everything looks good!" I cannot remember her name (the receptionist) but she was so nice and helpful. Spent at least an hour of her time helping me pick out the right frames! At this point my attitude towards this place is turning around but then the worst happened. It must have been the manager of the store or the owner, I'm not sure, but I had decided to go with the cheaper lenses for my frames since I don't wear glasses much. He gave me the WORST attitude! The receptionist told him I had a groupon and he goes "oh well yeah I figured that" and continued to try and talk me into the $250 lenses for my glasses. So I asked the receptionist to let me know how much my bill was going to be since I had paid extra for a contact exam as well and he goes "oh well then that is fine I guess, don't worry about it", like HE was doing ME a favor!!! Groupon or not, I could have went in and gotten any pair of glasses I wanted. The fact he treated me as less of a customer because I had a groupon was so offensive, and at this point I was livid. So I left and decided to brush it off as maybe he was having a bad day. I didn't want to complain or write a review until my glasses were done (honestly I was afraid if I posted it beforehand he would have purposely messed with them somehow, that is how rude he was to me) I returned today to pick up my glasses. The same man was there. When he pulled out my glasses and gave them to me to try on he made a terrible faee and said "WOW what led you to choose THOSE frames???" I politely replied "I like the bigger frames" but he continued to have this disgusted look on his face. I understand, I have a small face, so they had to be tightened slightly, but that would have happened with ANY frames and with the reaction he gave me I felt like I looked ugly in the glasses! Regardless of if I did or not, that is NO way to treat a paying customer. Then he didn't even have the proper case for the $200, now $350 with the lenses, Ray Ban glasses I had picked out. Are you serious??? I will NEVER set foot in this place again. This guy needs a serious reality check on how to treat his customers. I even thought I was over reacting, but my boyfriend came in with me and was shocked at how this man treated me. Regardless of the groupon or not, I still left there spending over $200, and I would have went back to buy another pair of frames at some point! They do have a great selection, that in addition to the receptionist is what gets this place 1 star. Other than that do yourself a favor and just stay away! read more

Came here because I got a good Grupon deal for an eye exam and money off of frames. I really need new glasses, and my job doesn't offer decent vision insurance. I made an appointment. I got into see the eye doctor as soon as I arrived. He was very friendly, and I was done with my exam in 10 minutes. I then went to look at frames. I have a very narrow face, so I usually need to wear kids lenses. Their kids selection is sparse. However, they did have petite frames for women. I found really cute frames, and I picked them out and paid. I was told my new glasses will be ready within two business days. read more

I went to Cohen's to have an eye exam and get new glasses and contacts. I hadn't had an eye exam in years and knew the script in my contacts wasn't correct. I was having problems with my right eye as well. I called and was able to get an appointment the same day. Dr. Goodman there was amazing. I explained the problems I was having - she took her time, thoroughly checked my eyes, walked me through step by step what I needed to do to repair the dryness effecting my eye. The woman at the front desk (apologize for not remembering her name) was great in helping me pick out new frames. I never felt like they were trying to up-sell me on anything. The franchise has a good reputation but this owner is worth avoiding. Its the same owner at the Palisades Mall and Nanuet. My first progressives lenses were cut wrong. I had nothing to compare them too and I suffered. The lenses were cut wrong to fit my frame. A whole year went by. I twisted and turned them, exclusively used them as $600 cheaters to read mice type. I got a scratch and returned them to be fixed. They said it was my fault but it would be fixed. I got new lenses. Wow, they didn't admit any error. A year later, I have a correct progressive lense for my frame. AVOID THIS STORE. read more

This has to be the worst eye place I've been to in a long time. Staff are unbelievably rude, once I didn't buy contacts or frames after my exam their entire attitude changed. I mean why would I, their prices are so high, I got contacts online for half their price. Also I had to call to get my prescription again because I misplaced the paper and the man who answered gave me such attitude. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I have only the best to say about this place. My glasses are beautiful; despite an extremely high prescription the lenses are very thin. The manager was extremely courteous, the optometrist was excellent and the store employees were courteous and helpful. I have been to other Cohen's, and this place far surpassed my past experiences. So I have been wearing eye glasses for a few years now. The set I got for a different optical store last year never felt right. I went back a few times but was assured they were correct for my vision, because they were trifocals, they could just be hard to get used to. Many times my eyes felt out of focus and strained. I chose Cohen from a list of my insurance providers. The Dr. at Cohen's asked if I had any concerns with the glasses and I repeated above. After examining my eyes, and the glasses I was using, he said while they weren't bad, the were not the best for me, and he felt the new glasses I would be getting would be much better. They advised they would be in withing 3 - 5 days, they were ready by 3. As soon as I put them on they felt perfect. No blurry vision, no adjusting and no strain. It was an amazing difference. I have had these glasses for almost a week and no problem at all. I am still amazed at how great my eyes feel, no longer strained or blurry. ***In addition, the woman behind the counter helped me pick my new glasses out. She was as terrific as the doctor. I recommend this location to anyone and will be returning for next years exam. read more

I am writing this glowing review immediately following my eye appointment at the Cohen's Fashion Optical in Nanuet, NY because outstanding businesses must be recognized. I cannot speak on behalf of the reviews from unsatisfied customers but my experience at the Nanuet Cohen's can be succinctly described as below: 1) SPEED: my complete eye exam lasted less than 10 minutes. Longer visits do NOT necessarily correlate with more thorough visits. The optometrist completes all the studies, as opposed to the assistants from other eyewear stores who administer ancillary tests such as checking ocular pressure and general refraction PRIOR to the actual exam. Don't make anything harder than necessary. 2) DIRECT: After my exam the owner Dmitri told me he knew exactly the pair of glasses that would best fit my face. Finished. No need to experience the stress that can be a byproduct of excessive options. Even the size of the store is just large enough to mitigate that stress from trying to find that illusory perfect pair of glasses. 3) LEAN: Eliminates overselling. I believe the immediate reaction from looking at oneself in the mirror is the most important in choosing a pair of frames. If you like it and Dmitri agrees, it's done. No excess chit-chat. No lingering feeling of regret. In and out. Writing this review took longer than my visit, because I am compelled to praise such professional businesses. read more
