I never write reviews until today.I can not say enough about Nick Siskos at sterling optical nanuet.I did buy my reading glasses somewhere else never again.I went to Three neighborhood places to have them adjusted .All of them were horrible Walked into sterling optical and was met by Nick.He was kind understanding and more than happy to adjust them.Needless to say he was the ONLY one that did it right.Not a problem ever since.!!! I did go back to have them tightened a little and he greeted me with a smile.Not only that he said if you need me to adjust them again feel free to come in anytime....Again the only neighborhood optical that knew excatly what he was doing on top of being the nicest most accommodating person .. Went here on Wednesday December 4th 2024 with my mom to pick up my new eyeglasses. Easy pickup, Nick remembered me by name, and gave me a nice red case for my new red eyeglasses. I appreciate the gesture like that. We paid the remaining balance with cash, and then went on our merry way. We also was advised that if we had a problem, we can always stop in and they can adjust or fix if needed, which again i appreciate. Luckily so far no problems! Oh and just a side note- got a call on Saturday 11/30 about making sure that i got the text that my eyeglasses were ready, and while that is a good gesture, I had planned to come on Wednesday December 4th to pick them up. I also have a 30 minute ride to and from the place. Anyways, i like my new eyeglasses, and appreciate sterling opticial, and recommend this! read more

Exam Dr. was very good and helpful. Optician was dishonest with me. My frames broke. He said they were guaranteed and made arrangements to receive a new pair. I waited and called back for 2 ,months, when he told me some story about the glasses lab having a fire and that my wait would be longer. 4 months later I have not heard a word from him. Owners Nick and Kamela were terrific at resolving a problem due to an incorrect Rx from a different optical Cener and ensuring I got a corrected Rx for glasses.They even gave me a discount. So very happy to come here after a TERRIBLE time with LensCrafters Macys in Paramus NJ. I went in just a week ago and met with the caring owner. She helped me pick out sunglasses, explained EVERYTHING in detail from the types of shades, polarization, explaining my prescription, and everything that went wrong with LensCrafters. She even printed out my insurance coverage and thoroughly explained what is covered. I got my sunglasses in 1 week, which was shorter than expected. What a wonderful experience I had with Kanela at Sterling ! I had switched optical stores in need of personal attention and care and that is what I received . She was attentive and very helpful in selecting new frames . Initially I selected frames and upon picking them up I realized I wasn't comfortable with them for a number of reasons ... kanela was very understanding and I picked out something else which suited me much better . No pushback , pressure and no questions asked . New lenses were put into these frames and in a short while I was called to pick them up ! They were perfect ! Went there to explore prices. I'm on a Medicare Advantage Plan and their prices are so ridiculous. This is a franchise and the owner was on phone calls most of the time. He seemed rushed to answer my few standard and usual questions. Bottom line: for one pair- frames, prescription, progressive, transition he quoted a ballpark figure, after insurance and 30% promotion, of $600; in addition he said it could take up to 2-3 weeks to get. I went to Costco and got prescription regular & sun glasses; transition, progressive, etc. The 2 pair came to a total $275 (after promotion and insurance), which I picked up 6 days later. I believe Sterling Optical is an endangered business going the way of Blockbuster, Bed Bath Beyond, etc. as they can't compete with the online and big discount stores. They are what I call NFL - Not For Long; if they don't change their strategy and business model. Also, Costco's Optometrist is top notch; my ophthalmologist highly recommends him as he's very thorough. Also, very kind and calming personality. read more

Wow! Great experience from start to finish! I was hesitant as I have had my eyes examined in the past and was not able to adjust to the prescription. I never wore the glasses. This doctor took the time to listen to my past experiences and gave me the most thorough exam I have ever received. The staff also took the time to get to know me. In the past no one bothered to explain how to adjust to my new glasses and so they sat in a drawer. My experience here was quite different! The store is clean and has a great selection of styles and prices to meet everyone's needs. I had an appointment with Dr Karl Eng. I assumed I might need a little bump up in my prescription, but nothing else. He told me he had never seen anything like what was happening with my left eye (he couldn't get an accurate prescription for it) and then told me about something with my right eye that could be an early indicator of macular degeneration. He referred me to a retina specialist he suggested. I decided instead to go to someone at Mount Sinai and not trust his referral because the diagnosis seemed off given I had been given a clean bill of eye health just two years prior and I'm pretty young. I had my appointment with the retina specialist today and the doctor looked at what Dr Eng wrote down and said, "This is crazy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your eyes. Your vision (with current mild prescription) is 20/20. There is no reason you should be here. Please do not use this doctor again." Since this visit to the retina specialist cost me time, money and a lot of worry, I pass along her response and encourage anyone reading this review to look elsewhere if you need an eye exam. Save yourself what it cost me. read more

Nick and his staff are great. They know who my family and I are when we walk in the door. They don't treat you like a number but, a person.

I came here with my mother for an annual eye exam. At the end of her examination, the doctor handed her something. When I went up to ask what it was, the response I got from the doctor was very rushed - the whole interaction just rubbed me the wrong way. I only came back here because it was easier - she's a previous patient and they have extended hours beyond the typical 9-5. I will be reconsidering other places in the future. read more

Absolutely I would highly recommend!!!!!! They go above and beyond to make there customer happy. Very friendly staff and a great selection of glasses. This was my first time having to buy glasses for my 3 year old daughter. They were the only glasses place around that carried glasses small enough to fit her face. The optometrist can make or break a visit and this doctor was thorough, extraordinarily detailed, patient, and he LISTENS to you. I never once felt rushed and am completely satisfied with my prescription. Very decent selection of frames and lenses. Also a huge compliment to Kanela for over the top care. Knowing that I am a health care worker on the front line and professional driver, she expedited my glasses so that they would be ready ahead of the mandatory business shut down and I did not even think of that or think to ask her. I was shocked to receive the call and rushed over. I seriously can't thank her enough. One thing I always hate about visiting any optical shop is it feels like buying a car with all the choices and upgrades and sales. I never once felt pressured in this store. Sterling would not honor my insurance plan for contacts lenses. They did honor it for an exam. I did the exam. But then they fraudulently submitted to my insurance for both the exam and the contacts. I now have to pay for the contacts at another provider. I called Sterling and they told me they would not withdraw the insurance submission. I told Nick at Sterling that I would never visit them again, and he told me "don't". DO NOT USE STERLING UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF! read more
