Cohen's Fashion Optical is in my neighborhood so that is very convenient. I had an eye exam 8 years ago when they were in the shopping plaza for online glasses. They were very kind when I brought the online glasses in for adjustments. Yes, I had the excellent and free eyewear adjustment. Two years ago I had an annual exam at their Old Country Road address, and that was for reading glasses. I returned to their storefront very recently, I'm still waiting for my new eyewear to come in , and that was for my exam. Now their eye exam is the next level with new and up to date examination technology and a friendly examination tech. A wonderful place! Went there to repair my favorite sunglasses that I bought somewhere else. Not only Anthony did it super fast but he also didn't charge me for it. Wow! This place has really taken a turn for the worse. They used to be great but their service is now terrible and they scammed me with cheap contacts and a rebate that I can't redeem. They stand behind their product and have fixed and adjusted my frame less glasses for years. Their technician, Anthony is nothing short of a miracle worker fixing my glasses after I stepped on them. Aside from straightening the frames he replaced the bushings making them like new again. The glasses were so mangled, I did not expect they could be repaired. At other times, Anthony has adjusted the sides and aligned the lenses for a proper fit. All the staff is friendly and attentive. There is plenty of parking at their new location. Purchased a Groupon, big mistake! The deal was $35 for a eye exam and $200 off glasses. Called to tell them so and was repeatedly told it won't cover contacts despite me telling them I hardly ever wear them. Kept suggesting it for $100 more, those RX expire in 1 year if you want to order contacts online, etc. I once again said I just want the eye exam and maybe glasses. "Groupon isn't always the best deal when you come in we can explore options". I had already purchased it a couple of months ago. When I arrived I was told the Groupon is only valid IF I also get glasses OTHERWISE its $50 for the eye exam and the Groupon which I cannot get a refund on any longer (the refund window closed) is not applied to anything as "that's not the offer". Yet when we spoke on the phone if I needed glasses and wanted to also get a contact lens exam for $100 they'd apply the $35 towards my bill. So I spent $35 on a Groupon I can't get a refund on and they'll only honor if I buy glasses. They tried to reassure me that I can find glasses for as little as 150 if I wanted. I said sounds good but I'd like to see them before proceeding. They were massive and junky. When I asked for slightly smaller frames to fit my face the price went up to $350 and combined with progressive lenses at $350 before any coatings and I'd be into it for 700 as a minimum (ok 500+ with the Groupon for glasses only). Seems shady not to mention it in the Groupon nor over the seemingly thorough phone call where everything else was spelled out. I'm out $35 and my time. This is precisely why I've gone elsewhere for prescriptions at customary rates and found glasses online for less than a third of the cost. I'll go someplace to get the RX that is up front. Years ago I went to a Cohens that price matched. I paid almost 1/2 what the original bill was set to be. I didn't even bother this time. read more

I am a young mom who had to bring my one year old with me in a stroller which as you can imagine, can be a nightmare but alas, i had no choice. I was helped by two amazing women, Sinead was not only an excellent saleswoman who worked with me and my budget to achieve the look i wanted, but also was so patient and kind with my son when he started acting up a bit. Another woman who helped me during the exam, forgive me i don't know if i got her name, but was also AMAZING and even put a cartoon on her phone so i could do my exam with the doctor. the staff here is so so so wonderful and there's not enough nice things i can say. read more

Would highly recommend not going to these people. The store is a shakedown, they will nickel & dime you. Also if you ever need a copy of your eye prescription for another place or state, they will make it up and not give out the real copy. Beware filling that written prescription. Real copies poses a Dr Signature on them, theirs just has numbers written on them. As for frames & such if you every choose to get an exact copy they have no idea what they sold you in the past to order the same pair. Best advice go someplace else you'll be much happier in the end, and if your insurance covers this place, look closely into where the next place under your insurance is and go there. read more

I was warmly greeted instantly and attended to immediately with several choices of frames by 2 woman who were nothing but professional and courteous. The entire process was seamless. There aren't enough words to express my appreciation to the staff, especially Samantha, at this location. I've been to other establishments and was never satisfied with the results. The staff was beyond courteous, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and informed about every aspect of eye care. Lynn gave the most through exam I've ever had and covered each part explaining what was happening. I knew that another pair of glasses, purchased from a different company, had a problem with the lens. Lynn immediately located the error, so fast I was amazed!! The Doctor picked up an issue with cataracts that was never diagnosed before. Samantha explained every aspect of the lens, thickness, coating, durability. If I could choose 0 stars, I would. Buyer beware. I went in last year for my first pair of glasses ever. So, as an uninformed consumer, I was shocked when a pair of glasses would be $600. As I started to walk out without making a purchase, the price quickly came down to $329 (I provided the frames). After making the purchase, I want back a few months later to have the glass moved from one frame to another (the arm broke) and you would have thought I was asking them to remove my kidney. I recently went to Costco and took the exact same frames and got the exact same prescription (progressives, transitions) as I did at Cohens for $129. $200 cheaper. If you shop here or plan to....pay for a membership at Costco and you will save a fortune. read more

Quite possibly the worst experience. I've been wearing glasses for 21 years and this was my first trip to this establishment. Previously, I have been going to the Riverhead Walmart, but I felt there were quality issues with their glasses. Quite frankly, the eye exam at Cohens was much less thorough than the exam at Walmart. The Optometrist was curt and seemed in a hurry. I was handed a pair of glasses by counter personnel, that seemed completely untrained and there wasn't even an optician available to ensure that my glasses were even properly adjusted to fit me. Comparable glasses that I had purchased at Walmart were half the cost of the glasses that I purchased at Cohens. Clearly, that difference in price puts to rest any quality issues that I was concerned about. I will be going back to Walmart from now on. read more

Will never go back here or recommend. Granted the manager or whoever she was informed me that all of the office staff was brand new... this place was a joke. The woman I spoke to was very helpful with working out prices for me. My contacts were not covered by my insurance (they told me this after the exam) and she helped me find the best deal. It did take over an hour as she kept having to leave to go help the other office staff who didn't know how to help other customers. Other than that there isn't must to say that's positive. The store was a disaster and completely unorganized. Apparently everyone else had quit within the past week? Wonder why. The doctor (female) I saw was very nice. She gave me a trial pair of contacts to wear until the new ones were in. They didn't have my exact prescription but she gave me as close as they had.They were too strong in one eye and blurry in the other but I didn't think much of it.... I never received a call when my glasses were ready... I had to call them a week later to ask if they were in. I was wearing the trial contacts they gave me when I picked them up. No one offered me to take them out to verify I could see out of the glasses.Turns out she wound up writing my prescription down WRONG so everything was screwed up. The next morning I tried the glasses... I couldn't see and the girl on the phone told me that it sometimes takes a few days for your eyes to adjust to new glasses if your prescription changes.... true... but I couldn't even see my feet. Had to argue with her to get another appointment with a different doctor to have my exam redone. When I went for the second exam I stood outside of the store for almost 10 minutes as they weren't open yet. If you can't get your store open in time for a 10am exam... then don't make the first exam at 10... The second doctor (male) was fabulous. I had brought my past two glasses for him to compare. He was kind, humorous, and extremely helpful. When the new prescription was brought to the counter I had to ask them to reorder my contacts as they were also WRONG. She told me it would take about 5 days for the glasses and 7-11 for the contacts. When I went to pick up the corrected glasses (got a call this time) she handed me two boxes of contacts. I told her I got a call that my glasses were ready, not contacts, and asked her to verify if the contacts were the right prescription because I had to have them reordered only 4 days ago. She looked at the boxes and at the paper and said "I think so" and handed them back to me..... it took two of them 15 minutes to find the new glasses. I tried them on and they were great, although they were dirty and they didn't offer to clean them. I asked her again to verify if the were the correct contacts and she blew me off mumbling "yeah" and walked away. I had to ask her to come back and label the contacts right and left..... I haven't tried the contacts yet... I took a picture of the correct prescription and have yet to compare them to the prescription on the contact boxes.... although I have a feeling I may be going back or getting another call that my correct contacts are in! Won't be going back here and should have read the other reviews before making my appointment. I picked them because it was close to my house and they had office hours that worked with my crazy work schedule. Next time I'll go to Walmart and just order glasses online. read more
