im guessing they're under new ownership (hoping at least). i've been taking my twins there every year for over ten years. spent way too much money between the 3 of us but I always enjoyed the employees. i called two weeks ago to ask when the last time was I purchased contacts because I thought my daughter ran through them too fast and then asked whether or not the contacts could go through the insurance this time around. the woman who answered asks me what insurance I have, and I told her I didn't remember & I didn't have the card on me. I asked if she could look it up and she said, no, that I would have to tell her who my insurance carrier was. I was so confused. Never had I ever had to tell them this. I give my kids information, their date of birthday & they look it up. so what is the problem now? And she says, sorry, I can't help you. I went physically into the store to ask for copies of their record to go somewhere else to buy their contacts because like I told the lady, how is it that they had an appointmen, and were seen in May of this year, but you're now telling me that their insurance information you don't have on file. i told her this was ridiculous & its sad i would need to go somewhere else after all these years. All she said was sorry and shrugged her shoulders. Well, i ordered the contacts online ( actually cheaper so thanks) and took them to their ophthalmologist all in 1 week so the nasty, cranky, lazy woman did me a favor! read more

This place is great. I got something stuck in my eye at work. I knew that they have a doctor on staff so I raced over. They helped me right away. They were all very nice. The doctor cleaned my eye and removed a piece of debris. They then pointed me to there stylish selection of eye protection. Lol. And they made me quality lenses for my protective goggles. Before they would scratch very easily and were uncomfortable trying to see through all the marks. These lenses they cut for me are amazing. I can wear them all day and see perfectly. The service here is wonderful. My insurance company was giving the employees here a hard time, and they spoke with them on the phone for over an hour to try and resolve the issue. Do not purchase your glasses here. They charged me $380 out of pocket after insurance for the same glasses i bought online complete without insurance for $130. The frames are absolutely identical down to the printing on them. Total rip off and no itemized bill to see how they got to that number. read more

They are so insincere because you don't get an itemized bill showing you what each item cost and what your insurance contributes, therefore you pay full price and they keep your insurance money. I have been meaning to post my review for quite sometime now... It's been over a year since I made my eyeglass purchase at Cohen's Optical in Shirley, NY. I have been a customer with this location for many years and was convinced that I was always getting the very best price on my eyeglass purchases... Well, I was wrong..... About 6 months ago, my eyeglass frame was damaged, so i decided to see if I could locate the same frames through an online search.... Keep in mind that I purchased these frames at over $200.00... Just for the frames...My search was a success. I located the same brand I-DEAL OPTICS; The frame name was JASON..... Well, here's the upsetting news.. I was able to buy this same exact frame for $45.00 including shipping!!! I expect an eyeglass company to make some kind of profit.. But come on!! From $200+ for the frame to the $45.00 price I found online?? This is absolute robbery!! I will never go back to Cohen's again. To note, I received the replacement frames... popped the lenses in... and i was good to go.. No quality issues at all. Same exact frames... Very sad that these companies overcharge people so much!! read more

I am now a faithful and loyal customer of Cohen's Fashion Optical. I have been wearing glasses over 40 years and had been going to a different provider for many years. After this other provider had financial problems and closed its doors and re-opened I returned to them for my regular exam, glasses and contact lenses. Very long story short, it took 4 months to get my glasses. I went to Cohen's for the first time in October 2015 and they were extremely professional. The women working there were patient and very helpful. I have very expensive taste in frames and add ons (ex.: transition lens), so the prices weren't out of line with what I normally pay. The transition coating or tinting on the glasses I purchased in October started to blister and it became difficult to see. I brought them back and they redid them with no questions asked. It only took 2 days. I am very satisfied with the way I was treated and will now continue to be a loyal customer. read more

I received (literally) a 2-minute exam. This was the shortest/worst exam I have ever received. When I asked the woman who handles the insurance claims (office manager?) why I received such a horrible exam she replied, "It's because you have Medicaid. The doctor can't be bothered spending time with you because he gets paid much more with private insurance." This is DISCRIMINATION!!! Because my insurance pays less then I'm WORTH LESS??? DO NOT GO TO COHEN'S FASHION OPTICAL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I have read other reviews that were equally as horrible that had nothing to do with insurance. They are totally inept! If you don't believe me, go ahead and Google them. You will find horrible reviews galore! read more

If i didnt have to give ANY stars i wouldnt. What a dump and the service is horrible too. Way too expensive to have the attitudes they do. They cancel appointments an hour before your scheduled time and close early without calling the people they rescheduled! So disrespectful. How are they still in business?? Roseanne is a nasty "person". Davis vision will hopefully replace this sub standard facility. The store in Patchogue is just as bad. I hope they read this and change their ways. I had a scheduled appointment and although the service was nice friendly and welcoming, it was unorganized; in a way that there were walk ins and appoints were taken as first come first served. I didnt think it was right. The glasses were not as stylish as I originally thought. When inquired about a groupon deal, i would only save $10 after spending $39 with my insurance in place. Dr. Scheinblum is excellent. He gave my wife & I the most thorough exam and test in many years. The staff is beyond expectation. I found Leslie to be the most exceptional member. She is truly honest and will give you what is best for you. Whether your budget is large or small, Leslie will find what is right for you. She works ALL the time. Everybody who comes in wants to see her. Leslie is a leader. I hope that Cohen's knows what a diamond they have in her. Anyone who afford the time and expense to travel the distance out to Shirley, you will not be disappointed. I know that many people write in horror stories about other Cohen's. I chose this office on the recommendation of my retinologist Dr. Webber. Doctor Webber stated that Dr. Scheinblum is an Opthamologist and considering the fact I have diabetes a medical doctor would be much better for my needs. Dr Webber also told me how impressed she was with the work Dr. Scheinblum does. Without an appointment I walked in and within ten or fifteen minutes the Dr. was able exam me. The examination was both thorough and informative. Dr. warned me of something that he saw in my eyes that I will now follow up with my retinologist. Dr. spoke of all the different lens and coating options and never did I feel like anyone was pushing anything on me. I was given all the options which allowed me to make an informed choice of what would be best for me. Leslie helped me pick out frames for both eye and sunglasses. It was easy to see that number one she was very good at what she does but that she also enjoyed what she does very much. Again Leslie went over options again because I had forgotten some of them. Frames were placed on my face with lenses in them so that I could see what the difference would be. When I turned and looked out into parking lot I was very pleasantly surprised everything was much clearer then I have seen in years. Within the hour Leslie and I had picked out lenses and frames for glasses and sunglasses. Leslie is very very talented and her position is as important as the doctors. I have been to other offices and Leslie's measurements and choices were much more accurate then ones I have had in the past. When I went to pick up my frames Roseanne took care of me and gave complete cleaning instruction instructions that didn't include buying any exotic cleaners or liquids. Bounty paper towels and warm water. I guess some of the critics who cry THEY forced me to get anti glare will say Roseanne has shares of Bounty!! that is why she suggests it. Anyone who wears a trifocal lens can understand the frustration of getting new lenses. This is the second year I am using Cohen's in Shirley and could not be more pleased. When I first walked in the door after a year I was greeted by Leslie who is the sweetest person ever. She was just so helpful and I didn't have to even tell her what i wanted she just did everything. After my lenses were in I sat with her and my glasses were perfect. The man who cut them did a perfect job. Dr. Scheinblum was also very helpful. If you wear progressive glasses then you need to go elsewhere. I was charged 1100.00 total for my glasses and frame which wasn't even a designer frame, I do not have a strong prescription, I got anti-glare, transition lenses, anti-scratch. I have been wearing progressive's for a long long time and never paid more than 800.00. I didnt receive an itemized bill, I had to ask for my new script twice!! The only reason why I paid the bill is because I didnt want to start a stink in front of my daughter. I went to Cohen's in Riverhead for an adjustment and I showed them my script and my receipt and they were in shock as to how much my glasses cost. They told me to call corporate about this. I will never go back to Shirley again, they will take advantage of you and rip you off big time. P.S. I also had a Groupon for 200.00 off! So glasses cost 1300.00?? Dont waste your money on Groupon either, it's a joke. Shame on me. read more

July 6th, I call back and say I was waiting for a call on my prescription...she says "oh, the doctor won't be back from vacation until tomorrow..." I call around 11 this morning (July 7th) and ask for my prescription again. They say they will call me back, the doctor is busy. I call back at 5:30pm...she says the doctor said he will match whatever price I found online. So, I pull up the website I was planning on ordering from and tell her the final price per box I would be getting it for. She puts me on hold for a few minutes, then comes back and asks if she can call me back in about 10 minutes. She calls me back and says she can order them for me tonight and put a rush on the order, but for ~$25 more than the price online. So I said, OK, then I just need the prescription information so I can order them online...then she says, oh, well, you can pick up your prescription tomorrow and do whatever you want with it. At this point, I have really lost my patience with this place. I tell her that I have been calling repeatedly and trying to order these contacts for over a week now and she says she knows. I quote from the FTC.gov Act that it is federal law for them to release my prescription to me - and that it was federal law to give my prescription to me after my exam (which they didn't do). She says it is the law for my prescription to be signed off on by the doctor, but it isn't signed, so she can't do anything. I ask her "how were you going to order my contacts tonight for me, if the doctor hasn't signed off on my prescription? Or is it just that you won't give it to me now because I'm ordering them from someone other than you?" We kept going back and forth, each time I got more mad and she got more snotty. She kept talking over me...and I started to lose it (I was shaking at this point). I finally hung up on her. July 8th - I finally got my prescription!!! However, it was backdated 2 days (I think they are trying to screw me out of my Acuvue rebate - which has to have the exam within 90 days of the contact lenses purchase). Luckily, I still had my receipt with the correct exam date on it. read more

I've been going here for quite some time now. I've tried other places but came back here and now have been returning for the last couple of years. The doctor is great and always takes his time to ensure my script is correct. I usually have Leslie help me pick out frames and she is super helpful and extremely nice. I was just in yesterday and had Denise she as well was awesome. She spent the time with me to pick out frames because I always take forever and she was patient with me and helped me through. "Hi, I would like to make an appointment to get eye exams for myself and my wife and daughter." "We aren't seeing new patients until September" (a month and a half away) "Well...luckily we're not new patients." "Well we only make appointments for two people in one day usually, but I can look up your information anyway if you want me to. We're not seeing patients for a while anyway." "Please...If it's too much trouble don't bother, I can simply go elsewhere." And I did. Look at the amount of money this place charges for glasses and ask yourself how much money this women took out of the owners' pockets by discouraging business. It's absurd. Luckily, I didn't have to go there and experience them pulling some shoebox out from under a counter for me to choose the only frames my insurance will cover again. After trying a different eye doctor I'm once again a fan of Cohen's Optical, particularly this location. The ladies that handle the insurance and help you with your glasses and lenses are very knowledgable and helpful. The doctor is very personable and gave me a very thorough exam and was able to explain why my last pair of contacts were so awful and gave me the perfect new pair. I brought my husband to help me find fashionable and flattering frames and the woman who helped us was very patient as she went through dozens of frames with us. They were very considerate and tried to help us as quickly as possible since we had our 1 year old in tow. Any waiting that we did was done at the stop n shop while we did our groceries but even if we had to have waited in the store it would have been well worth the wait. Some suggestions were made for lens options but I didn't feel like they were up-selling me to the point where they made me uncomfortable. Bring your coupons and they will do what they can to give you the best deal. I will definitely be getting all of my eye exams, frames and lenses at this location from now on, they are a wonderful winning team. read more

I've tried numerous optometrist places in the past two years and have never really stuck with just one. This place was just incredible! The customer service reps were great and very helpful, as they were willing to find the best pair of glasses for me. All options for the eye wear plan were explained clearly and they were able to work with my price constraints and desired features.
