I've gone to Cohen's Fashion Optical several times with my significant other. Joan always assisted my significant other. Every time we visited the store , Joan was friendly , professional and accommodating. Joan thoroughly knows the business of insurance, and assisting a client about their specific needs. Upon our last visit we met a young man name Fareed. My significant other needed an eyeglass case. A few cases didn't fit my S.O. eyewear. Most sale representatives would have given up. Fareed went the extra mile to find a case that matched for my S.O. eyewear. I was impressed by his diligence, commitment and professionalism. Got my first multi focal contacts here and love them although vision is not perfect it's so much better than before. I hate not being able to see close up when putting my contacts in, so this is such a relief. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. Recently went to Cohen Optical in West Nyavk for my yearly exam. I have to say I got the best exam with Dr Goodman, even better than going to an Opthamologist. She was so thorough and precise. She spent a great deal of time with me and explained everything she was doing. In addition the staff was great. I truly like it when you walk in and the staff remembers you by your first name. Good optometrist on staff, sales people are a mix of helpful and not so helpful. Ordered glasses which the staff promised to help adjust once ready. Got a call to pick them up and after a patiently waiting amidst the 5 customers in line, had my turn to collect the new specs, one for reading and another for driving. Guy behind the counter was able to fit one pair but not so much with the other. Told him at the time that this second pair were not well sized and he suggested I try them out first and see. Well, they squeeze the sides of my temples so that I get a headache wearing them and then don't bother. Hopefully I meet the counter guy on the road when I don't have my glasses on. read more

Great customer service. Two gentlemen helped my daughter and I get a back up pair of glasses as she left hers at college after exams. I wanted to be mindful of the price point as we had hit our vision insurance limit for the year. They were understanding of our situation and worked with us to find frames and lenses that exceeded what we were looking for and we left the store very satisfied within 30 minutes with the glasses. I would highly recommend this store and location and we will definitely be going back next year. read more

I went to Cohen's Fashion optical for the mere reason of getting a prescription for myself and my 8 year old son. I already had it in my mind that I was going to purchase our glasses online because the deep discount (even on designer frames) and nobody was there pushing me to purchase something I knew the price was overinflated. The optometrist was very nice and helpful. She even gave me my PD, which is required for online purchases. Once I was done with my appointment one of the sales people asked me what type of frames I was looking for and he could make me an unbelievable deal. I said told him I only wanted the prescriptions. He was EXTREMELY pushy and I said, "ok, fine. Please show me your unbelievable deal." He said to me "I can give you both pairs of glasses in very nice frames for only $300." I asked if they were designer frames and he said no, not for that price. I responded with, "I can do much better than that," his response was, "no you can't." I told him that I assure him that I could, and he literally got an attitude and slammed his hand down and said, "not with a -6.0 you can't." and I said, please give me my receipt. Needless to say, I ordered Hickey Freeman frames with 1.61 index lenses for myself AND Converse childrens glasses for my son for only $168 including shipping and free returns for 366 Days. I will never go back to this location again and I knew they sales people were pushy, but hey... $20 for an eye dr. appointment is reasonable. read more

My terrible experience happened a few months ago. I purchased a pair of glasses, over $600.00. When they finally came in for pick up, the frames were defective - scratched and chipped. They said I could wear the defective pair until the replacement came in. Why would I want them or wear them when my old glasses looked less worn than these brand new $600 defective pair. Between the treatment I got from customer service and the store, they all made it seem like it was no big deal. And because they could not tell me when the frames I wanted would be in stock again or how long I'd have to wait...whether it being 2-3 weeks, I requested my refund. The store manager complained about how he's at the mercy of the manufacturers and how it hurts the business. Gucci he referred to being one since though were the frames I purchased. It seemed as though their intentions on replacing my glasses were very faint and not a priority. With that being said - once I requested my refund and they made it seem I was the problem. That I was at fault for wanting my money back. I am just a customer who wanted what they paid for. No more, no less. Worst experience and no professionalism. read more

I went to Cohens in the Palisades mall to get some new frames as mine just broke that same day. They were kind enough to try to help me find the right frames for my lenses. However, none of the frames there could fit my lenses. That was fine, and I appreciated their help. Now what brings me to lower the rating is, I have VSP vision insurance. Before I could look for frames they had to verify my benefits. They contacted my insurance and told me that my insurance told them they will cover up to "$70 for frames according to my plan." So I ended up leaving anyway since we could not find well fit frames. I end up going to Nanuet Vision Center where I was able to find frames. The lady at the desk called my insurance to verify my benefits. But to my surprise the insurance rep tells us (on speaker) that my plan covers up to "$120 for frames for my coverage plan!" Now I'm confused and annoyed as to why the sales rep at Cohen would tell me my coverage is $70 while hearing my insurance rep tell me it was $120. Luckily I did not buy anything from there as I would've had to pay more out of pocket then I'm supposed to. But advice would be to be very aware of your coverages to avoid having to pay more then you're supposed to. read more

My twin 7-year old daughters went to Cohen's Fashion Optical at the Palisades Mall for their first pair of glasses. Needless to say, they were very reluctant about the whole idea of getting and having to wear glasses. Peter at Cohen's was great. He put our girls at ease and spent considerable time helping them find the perfect pair of glasses to complement their respective face shapes. The end results were great looking glasses and girls that were actually now EXCITED about their glasses...all apprehension was gone! The prices were very reasonable as well. The ladies there went above and beyond to find frames that fit my lenses, get the lenses in & I was able to see again & walk out within 20 minutes! Everything and everyone at this location, was just amazing. First off, I walk into the store and IMMEDIATELY I felt the good vibes of a great customer service was already enveloping the entire store. I was approached by one of the associates (terribly sorry but I'm bad with names) I forgot her name but I will offer her I.D.3752 (these are the last four). Anyways she immediately approached me with a great service and introduction. She used her expertise and presented me with a great selection for glasses based on my preference..then suddenly I was approached by every other available associate to offer their opinion on the selection of glasses chosen. Like I said I'm bad with names but the females that were working between the hours of 12:30pm and 2:00pm were just EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND AMAZING. Forgot to mention I arrived early for my appointment so the doctor available was funny and very very knowledgeable on EVERYTHING. Like I said what the consumer expect is great customer service. CUSTOMER SERVICE....THEY OFFERED AN AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE. I felt the warm welcome of Cohen's Fashion Optical (By the way I remembered their old school commercial lol). WARNING READ BEFORE GOING THERE! I saw a sign they posted "$99 for contact lens exam + 2 boxes included", so I decided to walk in and do it. I asked them whether they accept my discount from school and was told to bring it too look up, and once they did I was told that they would take off $9 and I was OK with it. When I completed my eye exam, I did not get the 2 boxes included on the price I paid despite being promised and already paid them on same day. They told me to come back next week to do check up again so I could receive the 2 boxes and my prescription, so I drove an hour to get there again and came back and was told that I must pay $9 more to get my prescription and boxes (they never said that to be on first visit) + that they charged me $90 because of discount they took off from my school. I've got into fight and argument with their staff and manager for 30 min, and their ridiculous and rude manager returned the money back to me after the argument lasting for 30 min and told me to leave the store and threw out my prescription. They scammed and lied to me both visits, wasted my time and lost customers, and on top of that they kicked me out from the store despite one of their staff admitted I was correct. WORST PLACE EVER... SAVE TIME & MONEY DO NOT GO THERE! read more

I am only giving Cohen's one stars and that is because the staff tried to help. I had to repeatedly return to the store for them to adjust my glasses so I could see as they were blurry. In fact at one point I was told to point my nose where I wanted to see (these are progressive lenses) and I thought how strange to have my head bobbing in order to get clear vision. They adjusted my frames so it was better but it is not good. They are still somewhat blurry and I get dizzy wearing them. I wanted a new set of lenses (I never had a problem with my Warby Parker lenses) but they insisted that the lenses are for the prescription as noted by the eye exam. They obviously do not want to make another set of lenses but I do believe if they did, it would solve the problem. I paid $ 398.00 for glasses I cannot use. If they really believed in customer satisfaction they would have just made a new set of lenses. read more

Went to Cohen's recently to get a new prescription and a new frame. My last frame made it several years and through several continents, and was even twisted in half by a monkey. But alas, it was time. Found a great frame and got a new prescription. I am extremely sensitive to new lenses as a result of my astigmatism and was not happy with my first set of lenses. Found out there was a problem from the manufacturer. The people at Cohen's were extremely receptive, however, took the lenses back and replaced with them within a few days with a new set which is perfect. Great frame adjustment too. Its rare to find people as courteous and professional these days. Overall, I was very happy with the service I received. read more

This was my 2nd visit to this location for an eye exam. Despite a very slight change in my prescription, I decided to order a new set of eyeglasses with a small co-pay of $25. Once the salesperson was done selecting all these specialty features, I was presented with a bill for $239 (which was not itemized) so I have no idea what I actually paid for what. Upon returning to the store to pick up my new eyeglasses, I asked about a repair to the specialty lenses I brought last time that were allegedly scratch proof. A man with an accent, quickly took the glasses from my hand and said I would be better off ordering new lenses for the old frames so I could have 2 new glasses. He offered 50% discount and before I could even respond, he plucked out the lenses from my glasses and ordered the salesgirl to give me a 50% discount. As the salesgirl questioned him, saying, "but it's not that different" he shushed her and said, "it's ok, give her the new ones." I could tell even she was surprised he was pushing me to buy something I really didn't need. As I was processing this very aggressive and pushy sales tactic, I was presented with another bill in the amount of $164.50. Yes, the glasses and lenses were nice, but I don't think unsuspecting customers should be tricked into purchases just because business might be slow. tsk, tsk. I'll be taking my business to Costco after this because this was sneaky and unpleasant. read more

My husband has difficulty finding frames and their expertise allowed us to walk away with a great frame at a very reasonable price. I had a little trouble with my insurance and they got on the phone with the insurance company and worked everything out. Not many companies would have taken the time. I scheduled an appointment with the online widget for Friday at 5:30pm -- a time that showed as available. No times on Sat/Sun were showing as available at all. I received a call not long after, telling me they didn't have a dr. at the time I scheduled, but they could take me at 12pm on Sunday. Much less convenient for me, but I didn't seem to have much choice. I arrived early for my appointment and was told that not only was the dr. not there yet (which was fine -- I was early), but that her "12pm" appt doesn't usually happen until 12:10 or 12:15. I found this very frustrating, as I was planning to feed my young children after the appointment and had I known it would start late I would have planned to feed them prior. I sat and waited for her until 12:20, at which point she had still not arrived. I felt that enough of my time had been wasted, and I left. Oh, and also...while I was waiting, another woman came in for her 12pm appt. She had made the appointment online and had two confirmation emails. She was told that "the online system isn't always accurate" and she did not, in fact, have a 12pm appointment. They also scheduled another person for a 12:30 appointment and then told them not to come back until 12:45 or so. Really? At that point just schedule the appointment for 1pm. Katrina Maranan did call me and said that she would speak to the doctor, manager and store owner, and promised me a call back the very next day. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A PHONE CALL BACK FROM THIS WOMAN. There is nothing "top" about this customer service representative. On July 22, 2013, I sent an e-mail to Jenna Manula following up on this matter, I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE BACK, not even as a courtesy. PLEASE PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! IT'S NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION AND THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR EYES EVEN MORE, LIKE THEY DID TO MINE. I am in the process of consulting the services of my attorney and reporting this company to the BBC. read more

I am so angry with what this place tried to do to me I had to share it on Yelp. In all my 65 years I have not experienced such a scam. My wife and I went in there several weeks ago. I didn't buy anything because I just retired and there were issues with my insurance. I asked the woman helping me what it would cost with everything I needed. I wear a no line bifocal and need that glare coating and transitional lenses. Everything came to $615 with frame. The other day when I went back in the new price was $795. Same exact everything. Then I was told I was never given that price which is a damn lie and the person that helped me at first was not there. I had everything from price to the frame style written by their employee in her handwriting on that piece of paper. They said it was not her writing. Maybe business is slow but don't try to take advantage of a new customer. I certainly hope other Cohens do not operate this way. Very bad business. read more

Everything was done on a professional level and staff was very nice, friendly they patiently answered all of my question and no rush which is kind of rare. My lenses were made with great quality. Won't be going back! I loved my first appointment and female dr. ( do not remember name) although it took several tries to get the right prescription for contacts. When I came back for my check up I got a male older dr( again do not remember name). He was so rude to me and treated me like I was an idiot. He spoke down to me like a child and made me feel horrible for being there. I told him I had a problem with my correction on the contacts and he rechecked my eyes and gave me a different prescription. But since my glasses had already come in he was not willing to change them. $$$$. He said I would get used to them. Both drs implied that I was old and therefore had near sited issues due to my age but neither actually checked to see if I have near site issues. I am only 43 and my eyes are unique. I can see fine up close. Except now I feel I am over corrected and have a problem reading. I put my old glasses on and can see close up fine. I went back and told them this was a problem and they said my correction was fine and that my brain would adjust with time. After spending five hundred dollars on glasses and contacts I'm upset that I cannot see. However, I refuse to go back for fear I will be mistreated again. It has actually taken me several months to post this review because I was so mad that it would have been a far worse review. I figured it was better to wait till I calmed down. read more

Where to begin with this. If you're buying a Groupon make sure you ask detailed questions beforehand because you'll be taken by surprise in learning that the lenses alone are close to 200$ (you can get them from Costco for only $80). But aside from that exorbitant costs, the lack of professionalism is astounding. When you buy expensive Prada frames you expect you'll be receiving a nice case to put the glasses in...nope. And when I asked them for it they told me they had none left. Fine. But then when i asked for another case they were shocked as if that was a ridiculous request, and then the case they gave me turned out to smell of awful rotten dead animal. I was told lenses were free with an exam, as long as they were from the $99.00 section. Well, the free glasses turned out to be $120.00, more than I've ever paid on my vision plan, and for a very basic pair. Dr. Also said "eyes were completely healthy" and when I got to the counter, he'd written there was an astigmatism Not what he said in the office! Still waiting for a call to explain what is going on. What they advertise is not true. And the exam left me very confused. Going back to my regular optometrist and B.J.'s for corrective lenses. read more
