I am so happy with my experience and haircut at Coiffurium! I am new to Providence and saw this salon on Hope Street, looking for a place to get a fresh new cut. After looking at reviews on yelp, I was convinced this was the place to go. I was AMAZED at how wonderful they treat their customers and their interest in making me comfortable as a new customer. Patty did my haircut and she was FABULOUS! I told her that my hair was pretty unhealthy from this past year and I could use some recommendations for hair products. Patty took such care in washing my hair and explaining which products she was using! I came in and said I wanted a short cut above my shoudlers for summer and she nailed it. I was so impressed! I moved here from the Bay Area in Cali and had no idea where to go. I drive by everyday and figured I would give it a shot. I called around noon and they had an opening at 1. From the moment I arrived I felt relaxed and welcomed. The salon is clean and appealing. I was offered tea or coffee which was perfect to take the chill out. My stylist met me right away. Kelly Ann was awesome! She gave me the exact cut I wanted. I had a picture of what I wanted and she did it perfectly. I couldn't be happier. After a REALLY long time, i decided to stop in on a whim to get a blow out. I used to be a regular but have since moved on as the stylist i was seeing did as well... I'm glad i decided to go back in. The receptionist was super sweet, and helpful. I was able to get a same day appointment with Michelle. She was really nice, chatty and eager to please. Ok- I'll begin by saying that I'm 20 years old and have had extensions in my hair for a long time now. As of late, however, I'd had about enough with the expensive upkeep- not to mention hair loss. I turned to Yelp to find a salon that would assist me (and my hair) in attaining a fresh start. I could NOT be happier. I went to Coiffurium and had my hair cut by Anne. She understood EXACTLY what I wanted and the way I wanted it right off the bat, and it was clear throughout the cut that this woman knew what she was doing. She (and everyone else that I encountered during my visit) was kind, cordial, and fun. I decided on a Salon that carried one of my Products... Morrocan Oil (yum). For me a Salon experience begins with the cold call...the phone reception and they did great with that...since I did not know who I wanted or when to come in etc the front desk person guided me to a stylist and time (and price) that worked great for a newcomer! The Salon is relaxing, offers coffee or tea and my stylist met me quickly. Kelly Ann was delightful and did not do too much to make my hair too different than it was before...since I was not ready for much change. I also wanted to get a brow wax and I like the way they have the stylist take care of that as well. All in all I enjoyed my time here and think I selected well and will be back. read more

Got my hair cut with Jessica after bouncing around a whole bunch and letting my hair go about 6 months longer than I should have for a cut. I love love love my haircut and after just one appointment, totally trust Jessica for any return visits and new ideas. She listened to what I asked for, asked clarifying questions, and made sure she checked that I was 100% happy before leaving the salon, adding that if anything looked off after my first wash and style at home that I can call to correct it. The salon itself is clean and open, great selection of products for sale, and the front desk staff was very friendly in person and on the phones. One of the hardest parts about moving to a new city is finding a great hair stylist. This was amplified about a thousand times for me because I had been going to the same stylist for pretty much my entire life growing up (in the DC area). I tried a few places around Providence and North Attleboro that were just so-so before booking an appointment at the Coiffurium. I decided on this salon because they carry a lot of products that I like (Bumble & Bumble, Moroccanoil) and the receptionists have always been really nice when I've made a purchase. I called on a Thursday morning in early December and was able to get an appointment for that Saturday for a cut and color with Sheetal. I arrived at the salon and was warmly greeted. Sheetal was running right on time (yay!) and sat me down in her chair for a consult before getting to work. I love that she asked me to describe exactly what I wanted in a cut and let me look over different swatches before deciding on a color. She was knowledgeable, sweet, and very professional. I also liked that she made some suggestions, but still listened to what I wanted. The overall experience was relaxing and I left feeling like a million bucks (the way you're supposed to feel after a getting a new 'do!). I got a great cut that has lasted over 6 weeks and healthy, shiny color. My only complaint is that Sheetal was very pregnant (due in January), which means she's now out on maternity leave and I have to wait until she gets back to schedule a trim! She reassured me that my color formula and product information would be recorded in their computer system if I decided to return before she was back at work. Talk about amazing customer service! I felt the price was more than reasonable for the quality of services provided and will definitely be back once Sheetal returns! I'm so relieved to have finally found a new stylist right here in my own neighborhood. read more

You get a $45 haircut. My appointment was at 6p and I was out of the shop and in my car at 6:30. Really? I know better than to piss off a new hairstylist so I kept my mouth shut. The shampoo experience was the roughest one I have ever had, really surprising. I cant wait to drive 2hrs to my usual hairdresser to fix this cut. She barely spent anytime shaping this cut. I havent had someone spend this little time on cutting my hair since super cuts and it shows. read more

I was not happy with the service or professionalism of the people at the salon. During my appointment I had the stylist color my hair and it came out to red and I had her darken it. I called back within two days to have it fixed because all the color washed away. They were very rude when I called back and would not fit me in to help me fix the color. I had my haircut here 3 days ago and I LOVE the cut! I have been searching (and unsuccessfully trying) new salons for a haircut that works. I have a lot of hair that is a combination of wavy,curly,straight, and has some wirey grays coming in so now you may understand my difficulty. A few people have sent me to stylists that specialize in my type of hair and it was a fail. I walked into the Coiffurium, I had a quick consult with the owner (who was at the front desk) and I was scheduled with Patty that afternoon for my cut. When I met with Patty I told her what I didn't like about my cut and I left it in her hands, no pun intended. She was confident and began the cut. Forty minutes late, I was dry and walking out of the salon. I know some reviews have mentioned the cost being high. Personally, I will pay $52 for a haircut if I love it and I do! I left the salon and went straight out with my new haircut and style. I have not done this in over 10 years! The best part is that my hair doesn't have that "just cut" look and I can style it myself. I am sooo happy and I recommend this salon to anyone needing hair experts. read more

I was excited to try this place after doing some research and reading all the positive reviews. Also it's right in my neighborhood, so bonus! I had been in the salon once before to purchase product and the woman at reception had been extremely nice and helpful, so I thought this experience would be the same. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case. I made an appointment for a cut and single process color with Patty, who was recommended by the person who picked up the phone since I told her I was interested in a razor cut. When I arrived I was greeted more or less promptly, which was appreciated. I then asked the receptionist (not the same one I had met before) on a whim if there were any appointments open that day for a bikini wax and she literally SCOFFED at me, which I felt was a bit unnecessary. Anyway, Patty came out on time and introduced herself. She was polite, but very distant and didn't seem that happy to be.... I don't know. At work? Cutting my hair? Alive?? It was strange. I explained to her that I was recovering from the trauma of a terrible dye job at Irmgard's in Cumberland and wanted a single process to match my original hair color and a trim for my A-line bob. Patty could see my natural color at the roots but decided we should look through some magazines so I could point out what I liked. Fair enough, I guess. So she brought over a couple of magazines and eventually found a photo of Zooey Deschanel whose color is similar to mine. Patty asked what I hadn't liked about the last color job and I told her I had originally asked for some subtle highlights and had come out with yellow stripes in my hair that, after being toned, turned brassy. Awful. I mentioned something about the stylist having left the bleach/color on for too long and she said that if it had been on too long it would have turned white, not yellow. Then she said she didn't mind my color. I mean, are you really going to argue with your client as to what exactly happened to make her not like her color?? Anyway, fast-forward an hour or so and I will say that I did quite like the color I came out with. Patty did a good job blending it (at her suggestion) with the lighter color I already had so it looks darker like my natural color but not so dark as to be too drastic. However she spent almost no time at all on the cut, which while not terrible is probably one of the least impressive cuts I've ever had. She only cut it wet and didn't do anything to it dry despite the fact that I had specifically asked for layering and the general look of a razor cut. In short, some stylists here might be good (and happier) but I probably won't be going back. read more

This was my first time coming here and now they have a customer for life! From making an appointment until leaving, the experience was excellent! When I called to make an appointment, the secretary asked if I had ever been here before, to which I said no. She then went through each time available, with which stylist, and the price for that stylist. I got my hair cut with Jess, and she was so sweet and easy to talk to, and gave me a great cut! They also took my coat, and offered hot cider, coffee, and tea. The staff was very friendly. It was just a great overall experience. The Coiffurium is on the East Side near Hope & Rochambeau, and definitely the trendiest of the salons in this little section of Providence. They've recently moved into a new location and the space is very modern and simple, which I like, sort of a contemporary Asian/Ikea feel with dark browns and mint greens. They carry Bumble-and-Bumble products, which I also like. But mostly, I live down the street from here and like the convenience of walking to get my hair cut as I'm not in the business of falling prey to the American obesity epidemic. I only go to male hairdressers with red hair and goatees -- I have a thing for gingers. So I get my hair cut by the owner, Greg. He's very nice and professional, and reminds me of my childhood hairdresser Bryan, who wore leather pants and peasant blouses and a golden scissors charm on a chain around his neck but was married to a women, as is Greg. My lovely boyfriend (a non-ginger but with curls!) also gets his hair cut here when he is in town. In fact, he's there right now while I am writing this. He doesn't make appointments in advance, so he's seen about 3 different hairdressers here and been pleased with all of them. His curly hair can be difficult to cut, but somehow everyone at the Coiffurium has made him look good. And it is nice they have some space in the schedule to fit people in last minute. Despite all this praise, I will be giving the Coiffurium **** rather than ***** because: 1) they wax your eyebrows right out on this floor instead of in a private room, and 2) I didn't get quite the haircut I was envisioning the last time. I asked for "something interesting," and came out looking like a housewife rather than a rockstar. This always happens to me, so I am starting to think it is my own fault. A communication problem perhaps. I should probably stop admitting that I never use a hairdryer or any products and am extremely, extremely lazy. It scares them off from giving me an interesting haircut. Next time I plan to lie profusely. I want some damn chunky layers or side swipe bangs or geometric patterns shaved into my scalp! I looks all pretty and sweet, but I want RISD hair, goddamit. And I want it without a blowdryer, hairspray, texturizing cream, or anything else sticky and damaging. Basically, I want it without trying. Is that too much to ask? Maybe it is. And maybe I should stop being so goshdurn lazy. I hate looking for a new place to go for waxing. Thank God some of my fellow yelpers have been brave enough to give some honest reviews of their experiences and guided me to Coiffurium on Hope St! I know the neighborhood well and love the area, but had never been in there. After reading a surprising number of reviews for a few places I decided to give them a shot - I was able to get an appointment for exactly the day I wanted (which was 2 days after I called) without any problem at all. Sheetal greeted me right on time and immediately made me feel very comfortable. She did an excellent job and I actually enjoyed the conversation while she was doing her best not to inflict TOO much pain. It's been several days now since I went in, and I have to say I'm very pleased with the results! I'm so glad I took the time to read the other Yelp reviews... I visited Coiffurium based on it's high rating, but was pretty underwhelmed. They offer coffee and tea while you wait, which was promising. I had my eyebrows waxed prior to a big event, and while they didn't mess them up, the finished product just wasn't that good. I normally tweeze, but when I've had good brow waxing, I expect a clean environment, friendly and competent technician, and above all great looking brows. They met 1.5 out of those 3. The technician was nice enough, but seemed unsure of what she was doing and rather young. I had to go home and finish doing them. Perhaps the other services they offer are better, but I don't think I'll be trying them out. read more

I used their online appointment request and they called to verify the time which was super convenient! I went in for my appointment yesterday evening and it was wonderful. I went in for the Devacut with Shelby I believe her name was. She was so wonderful, sweet and super knowledgeable about curly hair. I got a ton of length chopped off and wanted it styled. She is so wonderful with texturing and gave some tips on how to keep my look fresh and when to come in next. I am so glad I found a place that can handle my hair in the area. So glad I came here! I was able to schedule an appointment online. They called to confirm my time, ask a few questions about my hair, etc. They also send me a text reminder a few hours beforehand, which I love - I have a hectic schedule, and it's always nice to have something to help me get organized! The salon itself is quite nice. I was offered tea and coffee while I waited (which was not long at all!). My stylist was Kelly Ann, and she was absolutely lovely. She spent the time to double- and triple-check that she knew what style I wanted. She was very sweet the whole time, and I felt like I was in great hands. The cut and styling were gorgeous - normally, when I leave a salon I re-style, and it takes a few days for it to feel natural, but I walked out and felt wonderful. I am on a very tight budget and normally go to Supercuts, so this was a stretch for me ($45), but it was DEFINITELY worth every penny. Expensive? A little. Overpriced? No way. I have been coming to this beautiful spa for a few years now. I have had several of the girls, as I am often looking for a last minute appointment. They are always able to squeeze me in and I have really liked everyone I have been to! The spa is extremely clean has a very trendy vibe! Everyone who works there goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and special. They usually start off with a consultation to see what your dream haircut is! Next they give you a spa worthy wash and shampoo with a scalp massage using whichever new and exciting products have come out! I have discovered some of my new favorite hair products through the salon! They always give me a great haircut and show me step by step a new way to style it. Coiffurium carries the best products and their products and services are competitively priced. It's always a pleasure to be greeted by Meghann and offered a hot beverage. Somehow, the salon always runs on time (or close to it) and they call ahead in the rare event they're running late. Cat always cuts and colors my hair and she does a fabulous job. She makes helpful suggestions for new cuts/colors, keeping things new while staying in my comfort zone.
